Whoever this girl was, promoting this absolute horseshit of a blanket, she is the best. I couldn‘t talk that much shit without breaking... insane acting. 😮
Erica Hernandez, I hope her carrer takes a boost from this. Her performance was flawless.

She absolutely crushed it.

This is why medical advertising is rightly banned in the UK. It's up to doctors to decide what's the best medical treatment for you, not some quack selling dangerous treatments on TV.
True, but we can still go into the medical / pharmacy section of any supermarket and buy a variety of homeopathic woo pills. Pharmacies should not be legitimising that bullshit.
@@Grim_Beard I've worked in pharmacies. The reason those things usually end up on the shelves are because somebody asked for them. If the pharmacist refuses to order the product or tries to explain that it's fake, the pharmacy loses a customer.
@@DragonbIaze052 That's a reason to either ban the bullshit outright or run pharmacies on a non-profit basis (e.g. in the UK, bring them into the NHS). Clearly having the bullshit legal and relying on for-profit businesses to have high ethical standards isn't working.

@@pvic6959 I didn't think about it. She could have been one more step in the giant sell out ladder, and the punch line for the whole thing.
I think that's part of the point that's being made here. Those people in infomercials showing how great the product is? Paid actors. Those people in commercials talking about their changed lives? Paid actors. Those hot women hanging around a Lamborghini parked in front of a mansion while some guy talks about his amazing real estate tips? Paid actors caressing a rented car in front of a rented mansion. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the people pitching paid promotions on local news are themselves paid actors. In fact, paid promotions in local news allows people to pay stations to change people who are supposed to tell us news into paid actors in their own scripted commercial.

@@MelodicQuest I just posted another comment (ua-cam.com/video/sIi_QS1tdFM/v-deo.html&lc=UgxwyiBO-SbaPI9LUft4AaABAg ) that touches on this. The thing that really stuck out to me was the "draws out the natural alkaline undercurrent of the vagina" line which is bullshit. A healthy vagina is very acidic. If someone has an alkaline vagina, they have serious medical issues. If I, as a male with no medical training, can catch on that line of shit, how did a female chief medical correspondent breeze on by it? My best guess? The correspondent is only listening enough to follow the script, and either is indifferent to medical accuracy on these segments or is told to just follow the script.

I have watched this program-though not every episode-since its announcement, the week before “whatever THIS is” was first shown. I have seen any number of illegal, disgusting, or incredibly nasty topics discussed. This is the first one, in all these years, that has left me stunned.
The car commercial was quite good. The “civil forfeiture” episode was horrifying. But this one was simple, “What the fuck you DOING?”! Thanks John!
P.S. The diseased lung was funny and disgusting, at the same time. Your show rapidly gained its feet, and turned out wonderful! 💚 Couldn’t love it more! Dave
When “Pioneered in Germany about 80 years ago” doesn’t instantly raise a red flag, that might be indicative of a larger problem.
And in regards to the product, surely with that origin it would be a sterilization blanket?
These presenters 100% know what they are doing, and probably just turn on auto-pilot when doing these segments.
I mean...it wasn’t all bad. We got the VW beetle and polyurethane...
@@kylen6430 and THE AUTOBAHN!!!
@@dejanzie It requires a special kind of people to do it though. Personally i just would not be able to BS people like that without laughing my *** off at how ridiculous the product is and i would certainly make a couple of sarcastic comment about it.
The fact that cloony did that bit somehow makes me happy
same, who had thought he gave this power to John.. it seems he never heard of his Adam Driver obsession
Clooney using a Flo-Bee to trim his coif makes me happy
My second favorite Batman. IMO, did a better acting job out of the suit as Bruce Wayne than any other Batman.
Because they are actually friends and we know that George's twins probably thought it would be funny for dad to be on tv!!
The fact you spelled his name wrong would really hurt his feelings
Can we talk about how John literally summoned Clooney lol
It's nothing new for johny last year it was adam driver this year its george clooney I suppose.
I‘m German and know more about America than my American friends thanks to this show...
Can we just appreciate this is an investigative journalism piece specifically about accountability in journalism coming from a comedian... and its probably some of the highest quality journalism you'll ever see, which really says a lot about the state of journalism in America.
Cut from the same cloth as Jon Stewart exposing CNN's Crossfire as an absolute farce back in 2004.
@@badladyami or all the ones where he exposes Fox news.
And it comes from a Brit who, despite attaining American citizenship, has yet to American-ize...and I hope he never does, because otherwise, we would lose this high-quality journalism.

I think that was my favorite part. :)
Honestly guffawed at that. So good. :D
OMG That actress was AMAZING!!! "Thanks for making it so easy" had me SHOOK!
"Thanks for making it so easy" The way she responds to that is my favourite lol
There's actually one more step to this process, John.
See how many stations you can get it on even though you revealed it was fake.
Oooohhh, that’s positively evil. I like your style xD
It's 2021 remember? Fact-checking is just the tyrannical censorship of stupid people's opinions.

Hey John Oliver, do you need a writer?
Google the Venus Veil blanket and you will see it announced on MSN & Yahoo news saying release of the Venus Veil first of its kind....not that it was John Oliver but with a link to the website to purchase and as seen on .... LMAO
Edit yahoo has taken it down now...lmao
@@Mainyehc I think it's more chaotic good
The Venus Veil actress sounds smart and confident in her product, so even though we know it's not real, it's still reinforcing the notion of "it's not what you say, it's how you say it."
i have a whole ass degree in physical science and she's got me wondering about internal magnetic fields 😂

That’s why conman is short for confidence man.
How many are here because John Oliver said to come after his Time Shares presentation 😂
yep
I love that this show never ceases to surprise me with their creativity, and their ability to make an absolute mockery of the most mock-deserving aspects of society.
When I understood that he was going to be on this news show with some product I knew, that he was going to blow my mind with how creative they were. And they delivered. "Based on 80 year old German technology" is absolute gold.
This show has always simultaneously entertained and angered me. John does a tremendous job with the presentation and is always very funny, but whenever I watch, I learn something new and depressing about society that pisses me off.
People want to be conned, therefore they will be conned - also, where can i order one ?
Like for "most mock-deserving". Well said.
If you enjoyed how they made a mockery of something serious can I reccomend the show Nathan for You? The show follows Nathan Feilder trying to help improve businesses in absurd ways but the show shines in letting normal people make a mockery of themselves in these absurd situations.
Being a Utah native, this really hits home. Thank you English man from the Void.
He is now an American Citizen.
It hit home here in Austin Texas too... he sure nailed our stations!!
Agreed. Sadly, John could probably do a couple of years' worth of content just about all the insane crap that goes on in this state. 😒
That feel when Woodside Homes and Hope Woodside have some connection and; Oh my God I get how Utah works now. #ProvoRules
@@KaiWatson yup. Graft and self-dealing are the rules here in Utah, not the exceptions, which is reinforced by ideological extremism and concealed under the greasy veneer of happy Mormon culture. Yuck! 🤮 I do have to say that I was surprised though that our state got so much attention in this video and not as much in his MLM video, considering a glut of those scams originated in this three-ring circus of a state. 😒
I'm supposed to write an essay about an advertisement and I'm gonna use this one just to see how long I have to describe the Venus Veil™ before someone figures out that it is satire
One of the best Oliver's episodes. Brilliant.
*"The F*ck are you doing?!"*
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Congratulations John Oliver, for running distraction for your disgracefully failing socialists partners...
OMFG the Venus veil 😂 Absolute legends John Oliver & team!
