I've been a professional mechanic auto and heavy diesel and most of my tools are craftsman and HF. have a few other brands in more speciality tools. only tool truck brand tool I have is coolant pressure tester in bought and 2 radiator hose picks I found left on trucks that came into shop. have been able to do everything I've need with the lesser brand. I even work out of a 4 drawer HF cart every day. have my less used tools stored in 10 drawer craftmans tool box upper and lower.
I’m fixing to graduate from Diesel Tech. 90% of my tools are gear wrench and Tekton. Very few Snap On and Matco. The GW and Tekton should get me through my first few years right? All the guys at the shop I work at part time tell me that I’m going to need all tool truck brands or I’m just going to be waistline money constantly replacing tools.
Looks like same light as the Astro, my only complaint is the cover/film on the bottom that covers the magnets wears away and you'll eventually have magnets making direct contact with the surface, so care with anything you don't want getting marred up. Electrical tape seems to work ok on the bottom.
lots of people sell those same lights, i have a powerhand one in the uk. i dropped it in a full pan of tractor engine oil and it was all fine and the charging port was still dry. very bright aswell. i think snap on sell two types and one is plastic junk and the other you cant even point downwards! definitely not worth three times the price
I actually bought that floodlight thanks to this video and it is very nice. I was planning to keep it for home use only but I might take it to the shop to work with it.
I was just at HF this weekend and saw those mats. First thing in my mind was, “They just copied Grypmat.” Lol. To be fair, everyone copies everyone nowadays. There’s so much rebranding that you don’t even know who originally did it sometimes. Plus, if you’re gonna copy someone, might as well copy the best. Wonder when they’re gonna have wobble plus extensions.
Bought that flashlight a ur ago. Great light! Only complaint is the magnet cover disintegrates very quickly. Gets dirty quick but... Hand cleaning wipe cleaned very easy
I have one of the green Snap on light like that it’s Plastic but when the snap on came out with power blue I picked up a blue one and it has a aluminum back
I just picked up the light after watching your video, although I only went HFT to get stainless steel cable ties. It was $23.99 with ITC. I also may have picked up the shop stool with back rest.
I picked up two of those lights and still cheaper than one light similar to that in other brands. worked perfect for me. if only the bigger higher lumen light had a magnet in it I would have gotten that also.
The Facom kit is made by a Taiwanese company and then badge engineered. Facom are taking the p*ss with the price they are asking. I notice you have some of my favourite screwdrivers, the Wiha red and black handles.
HI-FIVE in Taiwan makes all the REVERSE GEAR marked bit ratchets. All the sets from FACOM, USAG, BLACKHAWK, TOPTUL ,VIM, WURTH, DEAN, KS TOOL, TONE...ECT are all made by HI-FIVE. I think the HF Icon is going to be the best option unless you want sockets with it, even then it's still the lowest price. The VIM RBF400K is the same price, but the ratchet is longer and you only get the ratchet extension and adapter. I bought mine because it was essentially the only option, but I'd rather have the shorter version.
Harbor freight uses OEM, they do not manufacture anything. They just purchase tools from manufacturers, sometimes with slight variations. They do not copy anything, they just buy from the same place or similar and rebrand it. Dozens upon dozens of tool manufacturers do this. It's way more cost effect than the time, space, r&d, tooling, and assembly cost to make them in house.
Heres the thing.... if a company has a 300 percent markup on a tool and harbor frieight can do it for 150 percent from the same manufacture (most times it is) then we the consumer benefit. We find this out in their last lawsuit (snapon vs hf) where hf won because snap on didnt have a contract to be excluseice for their certain type of jack.. So harbor frieight when to that manufacture had them tweak the design a little but its the same exact jack. SNAP ON JACK IS 2X MORE. so we benefit from buying and supporting harbor freight. They are my favorite company.
I have that light and I like it it last 2 days on low I have dropped it and it's fine it's the best thing I have got from hobo freight it's better than the cyclops lights every one in my shop uses and it last longer than there's
New braun light has a type c now so maybe that may be better and i was told has a better battery longer life on the new one so i got one to compare it with my snap on so far its par if not better
I bought three of the Braun stick lights on sale five years ago or so. They are also aluminum and have the micro USB port. I thought they were great for the year they lasted. They all broke one by one. Wouldn't keep a charge..Flickered. Swivel joint got real loose. I guess for the 20 buck apiece I paid I shouldn't complain. Hope this new one holds up better.
Are yoy sure they're "copying" strap-on or is this a case of their Daytona jack where they just went to the same manufacturer...and are selling it without the markup.
Harbor freight has great prices, but if you cannot go in the store and pick it up, do not order online. They have a bad online service. They don't keep track of their inventory. My very first order with them. I get a message next day telling me that my package is on back order after I pay $6.99 shipping. That sucks in my book so I thought I would let everyone know I will not order from harbor freight online anymore....first and last order.....
The silicone parts trays are a smooth ripoff of a Shark Tank inventor. I bought all 3. Useful when installing an engine on a freshly painted aircraft (Piper Matrix currently).
You're talking about Grypmats! Great product! About 25 years ago we use to use a similar product for electronics, except they were made out of conductive rubber. I always kinda thought Grypmats got their design from those.
I literally just bought the snap on light yesterday and I'd gladly pay $20 more for the USB-C port😅😅😅 just hate having 5 different chargers for all my stuff. Still might pick one up tho.
I cain’t say much good about the Braun underhood light though. The longevity for the light on low or high has never lived up to the claims on the box and the most annoying thing is how the light beam would always rotate up away from the engine bay and illuminate the underside of the hood when I would let the light dangle from the hooks and/or the magnetic end caps. I use the light more as an overhead unit with it slid between the roof rafters on the little shed I keep all my automotive stuff in.
That light is made by another company and any company that wants to change the color and put their name on it and sell it, they can. Take Astro Pneumatic for example, I can’t link it here because UA-cam deletes posts that have outside links to them but go to Amazon and search for: “70SL” Harbor Freight doesn’t make that “micro floodlight”. I really wanted the Astro version ‘cause blue looks really good on that light and yellow is… ok. But I had a coupon I think or it was on sale and I got it for $30 😎
It's not copying if you purchase the products from the same manufacturers as the other guys. Most companies are sourcing their tools from foreign manufacturers and have their logo and color added. Welcome to globalization.
You act like HF is stealing designs and making these. You do realize that there are companies that make these items and then they private label them for companies like HF, Craftsman, Carlyle, etc etc etc etc, right? C’mon man..
That’s funny, everything is made in China….now if you can find something that claims made in USA, read further it’s most likely assembled in USA with foreign materials! Phone, vehicles, clothing, parts, tools, shoes….you can’t function one day without something you use or wear that’s not from China
everyone sells rebrands so hf should Aswell I for one am happy to see all the new icon tool line and them stepping the game up .
Hats off to harbor fright for copying so I can get the same stuff for cheaper
I've been a professional mechanic auto and heavy diesel and most of my tools are craftsman and HF. have a few other brands in more speciality tools. only tool truck brand tool I have is coolant pressure tester in bought and 2 radiator hose picks I found left on trucks that came into shop. have been able to do everything I've need with the lesser brand. No such thing as a professional mechanic

All the guys at the shop I work at part time tell me that I’m going to need all tool truck brands or I’m just going to be waistline money constantly replacing tools.
For me it depends. I understand buying ratchets and wrenches and whatnot from the truck but when it comes to like picks and sockets I’d go cheaper
Looks like same light as the Astro, my only complaint is the cover/film on the bottom that covers the magnets wears away and you'll eventually have magnets making direct contact with the surface, so care with anything you don't want getting marred up. Electrical tape seems to work ok on the bottom.
Yeah all my snap on lights do the same but some times snap on includes a replacement pad in the box with theirs
Yeah I got both the Astro and the HF Braun and there exactly the same
lots of people sell those same lights, i have a powerhand one in the uk. i dropped it in a full pan of tractor engine oil and it was all fine and the charging port was still dry. very bright aswell. i think snap on sell two types and one is plastic junk and the other you cant even point downwards! definitely not worth three times the price
LMAO yeah I imagine plenty around the world sell the same and I def like it better than my snap on
I actually bought that floodlight thanks to this video and it is very nice. I was planning to keep it for home use only but I might take it to the shop to work with it.
Love the flashlight. Used the snap on one a few times and liked it then seen this one in the store and gave it a shot. No need to buy the snap on
I was just at HF this weekend and saw those mats. First thing in my mind was, “They just copied Grypmat.” Lol. To be fair, everyone copies everyone nowadays. That's what happens when you manufacture in a country that dies not acknowledge copyright or patent laws.
Question is does the switch fail prematurely? If so then the snap on is worth the extra
Yep they’re going to keep copying Snap On because when they got sued by Snap On they won that case.
Some Snap on is Chinese rebranded.
@@LemonySnicket-EUCat this point what’s not made in China? But there are still quality and junk both coming from there
Bought that flashlight a ur ago. Great light! Only complaint is the magnet cover disintegrates very quickly. Gets dirty quick but... Hand cleaning wipe cleaned very easy

Anyone know what the white dots are for ?

What plier racks are those ? I have the new bit ratchet works great the bits are lifetime
Mechanics time savers Tool holder and screwdriver holder

KTC sells one of those lights but with USB-C (AL812S)
I have the astro light and paid 45
Miss my homak box. Best box I’ve had next to my current cornwell with flip top drawers

great video Garnett that is quite interesting
This would fall under Copyright laws and I'm sure they know how not to violate that law.
Rural King has a 3 pack of the silicone tool mats that are almost identical under the Crimson name for $20
Be nice if they made a Icon version of the Snap On Flare Nut Sockets. (Diesel line sockets)
I bought three of the Braun stick lights on sale five years ago or so. They are also aluminum and have the micro USB port. I thought they were great for the year they lasted. Yeah same thing happened to all of mine, bought the protection plan for two of them so I ended up with a total of 5 lights which all broke
I've had 4 of them for several years. No issues so far. 🤷
Are yoy sure they're "copying" strap-on or is this a case of their Daytona jack where they just went to the same manufacturer...and are selling it without the markup.
Child support is the one thing that will drain your bank again and again 😂😂😂 not Hf

The pliers yes, most of snapon’s stuff is rebranding.
Facom doesn’t make those kits themselves so it’s not plagiarism.
I always kinda thought Grypmats got their design from those.
the light looks just like the astro pneumatic
I got one of those lights and love it
I literally just bought the snap on light yesterday and I'd gladly pay $20 more for the USB-C port😅😅😅 just hate having 5 different chargers for all my stuff. Still might pick one up tho.
All of my rechargeable tools, including my cellphone, use micro USB. Very handy!
Those Braun lights are super underrated and my favorite light. Top five harbor freight item.
I’ve got a couple of the Braun slim lights. I use them almost daily. They’ve bounced on the concrete shop floor and keep on working.
Informative maybe a little difficult to watch with all the camera movement
astro light is identical too but blue same light!
I'll have to look into it not really a fan of astro since my 52sl is a POS
Astro makes the same light for about the same price with usbc
Do a review on the gearwrench bit ratchet set
The funny thing is I've been trying, just can't find the time😢
If they're using inefficient LEDs that might explain having to use an aluminum housing for heat dissipation.
@Garnett-Tools are you a forklift mechanic?
Yes I am
Im 3rd generation forklift mechanic. My father has been a forklift mechanic for 50 years.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?
I suppose they're really fond of Knipex now too www.harborfreight.com/merchandising-promotions/new/10-in-pliers-wrench-with-comfort-grip-58200.html 😭
Not copying all made in the same place
That light is made by another company and any company that wants to change the color and put their name on it and sell it, they can. Take Astro Pneumatic for example, I can’t link it here because UA-cam deletes posts that have outside links to them but go to Amazon and search for: “70SL”

When will the manufacturers let micro usb go the way of the dodo already? So sick of seeing that crappy port
I know it's so frustrating seeing new products come out with that port, cost savings I guess🤷🏾♂️
There is alot of rebranding done by the tool trucks and alot of copy cats in the tool industry
They didn't do a good job copying matco snap ring pliers. Those tips suck. And bend still.
I didn't want to spend knipex money but I have no choice.
You act like HF is stealing designs and making these. You do realize that there are companies that make these items and then they private label them for companies like HF, Craftsman, Carlyle, etc etc etc etc, right? C’mon man..
👍
Now harbor garbage is copying knipix pliers
Why are you buying cheap Chinese made tools?
Necessary evil at this point
That’s funny, everything is made in China….now if you can find something that claims made in USA, read further it’s most likely assembled in USA with foreign materials! Phone, vehicles, clothing, parts, tools, shoes….you can’t function one day without something you use or wear that’s not from China
