I love this! Pharrell really does love and appreciate our culture. He's one of my favorite artists/producers not only because his style is unique but you can hear how he incorporates/borrows Go-Go sounds in his music. He always tries to point people in the direction of Go-Go even though he's from outside the DMV/Metro area. Big G, Chris and Kacey, thanks for sitting down with them for this discussion and always trying to move the culture forward. We need y'all to keep #GoGo alive! #dontmutedc #DMV
Mama I made it 🥹🥹🥹 This was an awesome experience!!!! Thanks for dedicating an episode to our music!!! Gogo music is DC/DMV. Appreciate you for opening this episode to the public. This is how all of the festivals host/promoters should come thru!!! You did that!!! The whole SITW experience was unmatched. Welcome to DC
I was born in DC and moved away to PG when I was 12. I would take the bus from Laurel to Greenbelt to take the Green Line because I had to stay connected to my city and my family. I went to a gogo one time and I swear I was praise dancing no 🧢 - it’s spiritual like the woman at the end said. I love this music, this city, this culture and I will never ever be away from it.
I’m so emotional watching this. Thank you. This is home. This is the best I’ve heard it explained and talked about. Oh my god. Both of my heroes in one room on the same frequency about what I love the most. Gogo music!!!! Gogo music!!!!
I think people, can bring us happyness, thats way we are all one, we share, we are the world, please, keep on. Glad to see u, and happy to follow your ideas. 🌞
Go-Go is electricity for your soul. Go-Go has the energy of heavy metal. With the right influence it can take over like an urban infused heavy metal. There is nothing like it for urban communities, but Go-Go has always been the answer. It has something for everyone with the sub genres of the culture from old school, grown & sexy, crank, bounce beat and even Gospel Go-Go. It's the hidden gem of the city. I'll correct that. IT'S THE HIDDEN GEM OF THE WORLD!
Thank You 💕 Go Go has been a part of my life since 1987..I’m originally born in Va Beach so part of me always wanted to pursue my music there but DMV is home and I’ve made progress myself but as a whole Go Go needs to be worldwide. 💞
This was dope can't wait to see the future for go-go music. I like this one band called Relentless Original Kings. They play original go-go music and its awesome. Shout out to Phareal for supporting DMV culture also G Chris and KC.
Just want to make it known that there is a gogo scene over here in Baltimore that has influence from our Baltimore club scene ! But you mainly only see it at block parties. It’s not as well known or there isn’t any recordings of it.
Aye I have to say there is one producer from DC that has successfully fused go go with today's production hands down is Tone P. He did alot of wale's first album. He did "Bait" and a few others. And of course the late Chucky Thompson and Rich Harrison. Salute to Pharrell for shining that light on our city💯💪🏾!!!
Never knew TR tapped into gogo...this music is the last true Folk Music...and the artists and their fans wouldn't want it any other way...I'm from D.C. when it was the Murder Capitol...ppl from D.C. are fiercely loyal and protective of our culture...GoGo coming from anywhere else will not be tolerated...this music is DIRECTLY connected to the culture and the ppl of what is now called the DMV...the slang, the understanding that what sounds slow to outsiders ain't what it sounds like to those that don't know...I'm high af and hoping my pure love is coming thru about the music that comes from MY hometown... We would never give a listen to a GoGo Band from Oklahoma, or NY or Texas...🤷🏿♂️

Nice sharing 👌
That’s why I’m scared for it to go mainstream. I don’t want it to get watered down
GO GO MUSIC
IS THE ONLY IN THE WORLD THAT CAN'T BE COPIED OR STOLEN BY THE INDUSTRY.
THAT IS WHY IT HAVEN'T WENT POP
Great comment about the pocket at the end of the episode by the finest woman in the DMV 💯💯
