    I'm 42 and never felt more understood until I found Dabrowski 🥀

      I need to find time to "read him". I have an intention im gonna love his work. I already plan on writing my thesis about him even though I just read the first 25 pages of "Living with Intensities" - which is not even written by him, yes. What literature did you read? Any recommendations?

    Therapy must come from those specifically trained in treating the gifted, or the patient is likely to be misdiagnosed. Very few people even know what giftedness is, nevermind have the appropriate training to help them. The gifted suffer greatly without such aid, and suicide a not-uncommon result.

      Many people also get offended by the term gifted, not the gifted but the non-gifted. I've received mostly negative feedback when I have mentioned it and I'm afraid to bring it up now. People definitely don't understand it and when I explain it or refer them to sources, they come up with a rehearsed response along the lines of its labelling and how that is not a good thing. I rarely come across people who actually have given anything much thought out outside of what they have somehow managed to hear somewhere.

      @@nopenope1834 I dislike the "gifted" label myself, purely because of the stigma (negative feedback,) you mentioned. I'm thinking about taking "neurodivergent" for a spin, next time it comes up.

    Beautifully said.
    Currently 21, it's been 2 years since I've started my journey to the discovery of giftedness in one self.
    Finally after long pondering and rejection on the tracjectory towards developmental help regarding giftedness. I hope they will be able to give me great tools in my life.
    All the best.

    lol me absolutely bouncing off the walls exclaiming to whoever will open an ear about everything I learned that day/in recent weeks. Verbally vomiting all over them as I attempt to move my energized and passionate thoughts into the right water slides and out of my mouth in streams of words that actually make sense to others

    I have a very powerful imagination but do not possess a super high IQ, just somewhat above average.

      ***Totally not knocking you***
      One of my favorite things to hear someone write, type, or speak involves the understanding that they have limitations. To me, “IQ” is a really dumb way of governing any form of intelligence, so it’s practically worthless. Imagination goes so much further, because it fuels innovation, problem solving, and the advancement of knowledge/understanding.
      Your comment sounds like you are selling yourself short, when in reality, you are probably extremely intelligent and internalize it in your mind w/o applying it. That could be used to describe a large portion of my life.
      A quote that reminded me of your comment:
      “The smartest person in the room doesn’t have to tell you that they are the smartest person in the room. They will be the last person to tell you what they know...but will be the first to tell you what they don’t know.”

    I don't really do well at things unless I'm interested in because I see it as stupid to do things I'm not interested in. That's why I didn't get a 4.0 in college because I refuse to try to get an A in a class I'm not interested in but is required. I'm stubborn too.

      I used to write horrible reviews for the professors that docked my grade for attendance. If I can get an A or B without coming - why would you force me to waste my time by docking my grade? Backwards.

    Well, IQ test does not measure "common sense" at all.
    Although there is still no consensus who has the highest score of "common sense"...

    • @nopenope1834
      @nopenope1834 3 роки тому +4

      Common sense is extremely relative, much more so than intelligence. What's "common" changes across time and culture among other things. Not sure why people are obsessed with measuring these things, or on the the other extreme end getting upset by "labels". These so-called labels help to explain and aid understanding, but taken to extremes they result in discrimination and other negatives.

    • @stevedavenport1202

      Common sense is about being grounded and logical.

    • @nopenope1834
      @nopenope1834 3 роки тому +5

      @@stevedavenport1202 that's subjective and overrated. Common-sense and logic don't really go hand in hand. Common sense has more to do with learned behaviour and nothing to do with formal reasoning. Often people who rely on common sense aren't exactly the brightest when it comes to intellectual function.

    • @Terron-de-pimienta

      The common sense for gifteds is very different from the average people common sense: what it's completely logical for us, is complicated to understand/unthinkable for you and the things that are logical for you guys (socio-cultural rules, mental gregariousness, lack of empathy and a real ethical compass) for us are just a bunch of nonsenses and terrifing behaviours.
      This happens because we are more connected with reality (our senses are sharped, we can understand Nature's patterns easily, we see more posibilities than you, we can perceive other's emotions easily...), we are more animal than you guys, because you averages use to lose that part of yourselves, thanks to your herd-hive-mind behaviour; you even see animals as inferiors, denying they're people like you.
      So, we are more natural thinkers, or more logical as you would say.
      Common sense is based in logic, the problem is that you guys have an ilogical view of what the logic is: lack of spirituality and paranormal things, not believe in magic... things like those that has nothing to do with the real meaning of logic.
      Anyway, I'm pretty sure that a lot of you won't get what I'm explaining and just will complain, instead try to see if what I'm saying is logical or not XD
