That was my first thought. I bet the fire department and union implored the city officials for funding to purchase the top of the line self-contained breathing appparatus; something, something dangerous carcinogens. Maybe it wasn't neccessary for everyone on scene to have their facepiece on, but the two firefighters on the hoseline in the smoke (that could cause adverse health effects, even irreversible) should have had them on.
I am not Anti- Police but I feel like sometimes when they converge on a scene like this they tend to create different problems they didn't have before!
Cops are just paid spectators. If they park their car a block away to divert traffic how are they going to see whats going on? It makes me happy I live in a rural area where we have 20 firefighters for every cop. A week ago I saw a bad crash on the highway. Two fire trucks were diverting traffic on each end. I could see other rescue trucks on the scene. Two rollback tow trucks were just arriving, but there was not a cop car in sight. I drove about 10 or 15 miles before a saw a state police car race past me at 100 mph heading to the crash. The Fire Departments take care of their own traffic control around here, and it works fine.
The cops were probably already patrolling closer to that vicinity so I makes absolute sense don’t you think. Fire departments don’t randomly patrol looking for fires like cops patrol looking for and deterring crime. I’m sure their response was as expedient as it could have been.
It's to secure the scene, and not to protect people from the fire, but rather, to protect the fire from people like that useless fool with the fire extinguisher. It's also to ensure it's safe for the firefighters to enter, as even they can be subject to unprovoked violence from bystanders. They do the same for EMT's as well.

Most vehicle fires in New York include a ladder truck as well, whether a tiller, tower, or rearmount. The priority is to block the traffic and make sure none of the firemen are hir by other vehicles. Police are not always available.
Funny thing about fire videos; everybody knows more about how to do the job better than the firemen on the scene; just read the comments below, for example. thanks Austin
When i made Capt, I always preached to my crew to wear your SCBA at a car fire and dumpster fires. Car fires are the worst. That odor is in your gear so you know youre breathing it. Dumpsters, you never know whats in those!
IT LOOKS LIKE THE FIRE DEPT HAVE TO TAKE THIER COFFEE BREAK BEFORE ENGAGING THE FIRE, AND WHAT’S WITH ALL THE POLICE
PRESENCE ?
Honk your horn that always makes it better.
Ya only in America do you send a ladder truck to a vehicle fire. Sorry about my lack of knolage but would it be better just a water truck. ?
they send a ladder truck for tools and protocol
@@dylannjbuff Tools ha shame it not carry fire men that can use a water / foam hose then that would be usefull. Just carring water in a paper bag.
You mean, even ICE vehicles can catch on fire?
