I enjoyed seeing your process and the finished caftan is lovely. how awesome to have a formula you can go back to whenever you have a stunning fabric to showcase!
Great video... great DIY! The one you bought is great... but the one you made is better. Those colors are wonderful on you and the drape is extra nice. I've always loved caftans... even when I was young (I remember getting one for my 16th birthday) and I don't care if I look like a schlep! I had never seen that Ornella site... now a devil on my shoulder is poking me saying "buy one now!" while an angel on the other side is singing "make it... you know you'll love doing it"
I love your kaftan! It will be perfect for a hot sunny holiday stylish versatile piece. Mrs. Roper, here I come. 😅 Thanks for this tutorial Michelle, this is as good as any kaftan pattern I've seen.
Loving both of them Michelle. It will depend on how you’re feeling on the day which you choose to wear. I’d make one to wear to the pool on holiday. Thanks for sharing 🙋🏼🏴
Loving the Caftans and your orange and pink fabric looks fabulous on you. Useful vlog too - I do love a caftan as they are so versatile. Thank you. 😊. Lynne
Ha, for once I’m “young”, never heard of Mrs Roper, but maybe that’s because I’m in the UK?! Lovely work on the caftan but what catches my eye most of all is your hair - fab colour and shape!
@@juliejealous632 thank you! Have heard of George and Mildred but really am too young to have watched it!! That made me smile, not often too young for things these days!!
The one you made is absolutely stunning on you. Those colours!!! I can’t say I’ve ever worn a caftan - it’s just never crossed my mind to buy or make one. But with my upcoming trip to Greece, I’m now thinking I need one 😂 Might not have time to make one though so I’ll check out that link. Thank you!
I hadn't actually thought about it either until I started seeing those ads come across my FB page LOL! Those women looked so chic and comfy I had to have one! You definitely need one for Greece! I'm looking forward to seeing which one you pick!
😅 I know Mrs. Roper very well. If you know you know. I live in New England where it doesn't get real hot very often. I had a caftan that I would only drag out during a heatwave. I called it a mumu. I agree that they so comfortable and breezy to wear. Both of your caftans look great. It's ever so satisfying to copy a well-fitting ready to wear garment. I never could find a t-shirt pattern that fit me properly. So I finally made my own from a t-shirt in my closet that I really liked. Now every time I need a new t-shirt. I just whip out my own pattern and it fits perfect every time.
Yes, I think caftan and mumu are interchangeable terms LOL. That's great that you have a go-to perfect fitting t-shirt pattern! Sewing is such a wonderful skill 😊
Great caftan, Michelle!! As usual, I LOVE your choice of colors. When my kids were babies/toddlers, I made at least 5 caftans from the same pattern and wore them constantly. I have never enjoyed shorts - I am a maxi dress/maxi skirt/pants girl in the Summer. I agree with you that you can make a caftan as casual or elegant as you choose. Let’s hope they’re back in style forever…..
Hi Michelle..That was a great tutorial.. It looks amazing on you.. Wow.. I always wore one in the 70's I love it and I was young then..nothing to do with Mrs Roper.. Comfort and kids
Hi Michelle, your kaftan turned out super cute! I'd love to make one and feel that Mrs Roper vibe, too. Also, it reminds me of a JoAnn Anne Worley dress!!!!
Thank you for this post Michelle. I have some beautiful fabric my daughter purchased for me from Bali many years ago and I had always planned to make a caftan with this. However I wasn’t too sure on how to go about it. You have given such clear instructions and this will now be my next sewing project. Happy sewing 🌸
Hi Charlotte! Thanks so much! And I got the wallpaper from this website - be careful, SO many gorgeous ones to choose from - it was almost impossible to choose just one!! www.photowall.com/us/my-garden-bouquet-i-wallpaper
I know you took the same measurements from the store bought caftan but, the one you made looked like it fit you better. 🤔It’s longer than the store bought one but, it still looks good. I like the drape on the one you made. Oh and your hair looks good too! 😆I know that’s not apart of the sewing, I just thought I’d throw that in. 😄👍 …”Mrs. Roper😂” that’s too funny.
Well - I DID take the measurements from the store bought one except for the length - because I "rounded" the yardage I ended up making it too long. I keep tripping on it LOL! I need to wack a couple of inches off. Other than that - I do love the fit!! Thanks so much for the kind words 😊💕
What a great video! I love your passion. I am going to make one. Going through my stash. Thanks. I have one I wear around the house. It's been great during the heat wave this summer. I like the v-neck and simplicity of yours. Thanks from another 5 footer. LOL 👘 Bernadette
Beautiful fabric and beautiful results that look so good on you! I live near Phoenixville, PA, and didn't realize Mrs. Roper was big there 😄. I had a short caftan years ago made from two thick terrycloth towels stitched together - was supposed to be a beach coverup but was more like being suffocated by two thick, heavy wet towels...well, it was a good idea, I guess...
I lived in Blue Bell before I moved down to FL - my hubby and I went to Phoenixville all the time - such a cute town. I've thought about making a coverup out of towels but was worried about that - so thanks for letting me know!
@@MichelleSewsAgain A nice, thick, heavyweight beach towel is better for lying on than wearing, in my experience 😄! Probably a lightweight terrycloth sold by the yard wouldn't be so heavy to wear.
Just in time! Last year I wanted to dress as Mrs Roper for Halloween but never followed through because cause we were out of town. So making one to wear for Halloween and swanning around the house.
Caftan love it. But your back ‘wall paper’ is that a photography backdrop? That is stunning. Where did you get it… it fits a plan I have in my head to accomplish
Here is the link to the mural wallpaper - I love it so much - it makes me happy every time I walk in that room. I will warn you, you will go down a rabbit hole - it was SO hard to choose just one - they have such a GORGEOUS selection! www.photowall.com/us/my-garden-bouquet-i-wallpaper
I love the dress you are wearing. What is the pattern. I owned a caftan many years ago. I felt like a ship in full sale and knocked things over…got caught on knobs…nope not for me. I’ll just enjoy what others are wearing.
Hi Anne! The dress I was wearing in this video is actually from Amazon. I bought it white and did the dyeing myself. Here's the link to the dress if you're interested :). It's just a solid white linen tank style maxi dress. amzn.to/3YBycXM
Oh - I didn't even think to put that link! Thanks for the callout. Here is the link - www.etsy.com/shop/craftsuppliesandkits?ref=yr_purchases I'll update the description box :)

LOL - I know, the buy it vs make it struggle is real when the price is so right for a quality one! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! Thanks Diane 😊
I'd say that was a WIN/WIN!! It looks great and I can just imagine how comfortable it is.
It is SO comfy Deb! I can see remaking this again and again 😊
I had no idea there were Mrs. Roper festivals! Too funny😅😅
I know, right? Now I feel the need to attend one LOL!
Michelle, I’m a total Mrs. Roper geek and lover of caftans! Yours turned out beautifully. 😘
Thank you so much Lynn!

Mrs Roper festival what a hoot!
🤣🤣🤣
I live in caftans in the summer. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you! I've worn them both several times already!!
Beautiful! And I agree, it’s very chic. And so easy! Thanks.
Thanks Barbara! 😊

I agree - I will be wearing mine both as a chic dress and as a swim coverup at the pool - equally suited to both looks 😊

It's because you're young! Mrs Roper was from a UK sitcom called George & Mildred. I think it began in the 1970's.
@@juliejealous632 thank you! Have heard of George and Mildred but really am too young to have watched it!! That made me smile, not often too young for things these days!!
The Mrs Roper I was referring to was from a US sitcom called Three's Company in the 70's :). Interesting that there was one in the UK as well!!

Hi! Where is the link to the Etsy shop for your neckband binding? I couldn't find it. I have not had success with binding bought from JoAnn's, either.

@MichelleSewsAgain Thank you! I'm a new subscriber and I love your channel!
I’m confused, that you’re using 18 1/2 “ for the width of folded panel. Wouldn’t that be 37” for the front of the caftan, and 37” for the back panel?
Yes, that's correct. Apologies - I thought I explained that! With the hemmed edges it comes out to around 36" for each finished panel.
