Michelle, I would love it if you had a channel and sold your ice dyed fabric, as I would be the first one in line and purchase as much as I cold. Yor fabric that you create is wonderful. All of the dresses were beautiful and looked gorgeous on you.!! I get so much inspiration from you. It is good to see you back. 😀❤
Beautiful fabrics and garments. Both your dresses are very flattering on you. 😊. I love the t’s you made for the cousins, they looked great. I’m very impressed that you have 141 dyes! 😲. Please do show your swatch collection when you are done I love the ones that split into a number of colors. Good to see Hercules too.❤. Have a great time with Jen & Trish… wonderful video!
Hi Michelle, love the cocoon dress, fabric and style - so flattering and looks easy to wear. The fabrics you bought are amazing, can't wait to see them made up. I also love the idea of buying ice dyed fabric ❤❤🎉
That was a lot, and it was fun! You made some beautiful dresses. I don’t know about the fabric biz, but you have a lot of followers who love your ice dying.
Haha - yes, it WAS a lot!! Thanks for the feedback on the fabric biz! I know a lot of people compliment my fabrics but that doesn't mean they'll buy it if I offer it for sale. So I appreciate you letting me know 😀 THANKS!!
Those dresses are stunning!!! I love the idea of selling ice dyed fabrics! I was swooning over the one swatch you showed! I think its a great idea! Looking forward to seeing you today!!!!❤❤
If you cut the blanket down the middle you won’t have to reattach the fringe. Have fun with your buddies tomorrow. Trish said she was meeting up with you and Jen. Such fun.
It was a lot! Whew, I’m tired… Great video with lots of interesting content. FYI, I would definitely buy your ice dyed fabric by the yard. I’ve loved all the clothes you’ve worn made from your ice dyed fabric, and I don’t think I’m willing to make the investment to do my own ice dying. For your caftan, perhaps you could cut the fabric exactly in half, remove the amount you want to reduce from each half, seam back together and proceed with your pattern. That way, you don’t need to remove and reattach fringe…
Haha - it WAS a lot 🤣. Thanks for hanging in there 💕. Good to know you'd buy some fabric! That is definitely helpful in my decision making!! You are among the other geniuses that are recommending that I split it down the middle and take out the excess that way. You guys are all so smart! Of course that's the easier way 🤣. Thank you!!!
Gorgeous dresses!! I agree with the folks who said to cut that blanket/towel down the middle and then remove some of that extra width that way. I absolutely love ice-died fabric and it looks amazing on people, but it’s just not me. Have fun with the girls!! 💞
Def give the business a try, and see how it goes! I wonder if “Hand-dyed” would bring more traffic than “Ice-dyed”, since it’s a more broad description? 🤔 I cannot imagine weeding all that vinyl for the cruise shirts! 😱 You are AMAZEBALLS! 💗
I definitely think I need to use "hand-dyed" rather than "ice-dyed" - I'm sure most people wouldn't know what that is! The weeding took 15 minutes for each logo! Good thing I started early and was able to knock out a handful at a time over the course of a few weeks. Which is a shocker, I'm never ahead of the game 🤣🤣🤣
Once you line the bodice of a dress, making sure the lining is breathable, you’ll be amazed at the improved quality of the garment. It’s also often faster than using bias tape to finish!
I believe you made the same comment the last time I talked about the Nova Midi - you are always spot on so I think I may have to give it a go!! Thanks for the feedback Barbara!!
I would be interested in purchasing your ice-dyed fabric by the yard. I’ve made a number of ice-dyed t-shirts but don’t have the room for setting up to do yardage. Yours are so beautiful!
Hi Michelle! I love your ice dyed fabric and would purchase it. Check your state’s requirements; when I set up a shop years ago for my jewelry, all I had to do was set up a tax ID number and keep the associated record keeping. SC made it easy peasy. 😘
Thanks for the encouragement and for the suggestion! I have a lot of research to do before I can get started - but wanted to know if there was even any interest before I did all the work 🤣
All your makes look great, beautiful fabrics. If you want to start a business you should. There are several people on instagram that dye fabric and sell it, it is always sold out.😮😊 im sure it will be a big success whatever you decide to do.
I love your ice dye swatches too! Would love to see a video about all of them. Sewing your own clothes and (ice) dyeing fabric is something I love to do as well. So always inspirational to see yours! And I really like your tropical scuba dress. Great fit!
I actually was planning on doing a video about how I made my swatches - I figured people from the ice-dyeing groups I'm in would enjoy it. I'm not sure how many of us there are that ice-dye and sew. But love to see another with the same passions as me 💕
Hi Michelle. I'd love to buy some of your ice dyed fabric! All the pieces you've shown have been gorgeous. If you're at the concept stage, I'm not sure if you want any details yet. But others have already mentioned fabric bases, so I'll offer my preferences. My favorite fabric is jersey knit of 95% pima cotton with 5% spandex. That mix seems to be the most dependably soft cotton-spandex fabric. The softness is what makes me want to buy more of what's on offer along with rich wonderful colors and patterns. Same with rayon wovens -- the ones that are soft are the most appealing to me. That even applies to woven cotton fabric for me -- the softer ones like cotton lawn are often more appealing to me for garments. I make quilts too. For those projects, I'm usually looking for light but densely woven cotton fabrics with beautiful prints or colors; to me softness is nice but not essential for that use. I think it's exciting that you might create a business and hope it could be structured to result in a decent income for you and all the time you invest in creating the fabric. Wishing you the best as you think about possibilities and jump into researching and learning and expanding horizons, Antonia
Thank you so much for your input on the fabric bases - that's definitely helpful! Since I don't really sew with knits much, it's good to know what people prefer. I probably won't do a lot of quilting cottons because that seems to be available on Etsy from many different sellers. I'm trying to offer something that isn't already "out there". Thank you for your support! I'll definitely keep all of you updated on the progress (or lack thereof haha) of the business idea.
@@MichelleSewsAgain Hi Michelle. Have you seen the recent video by Charlie Nebe with a caution about trying to monetize a hobby? She has a UA-cam channel called The Stitchery and started a second one. The most-recent video is her reflections on trying to start the second channel and why that was a bad idea for her embroidery projects. Hi Carmen! I think I'll stick to fabric for my business - the tee shirt market is heavily saturated and a lot of people undervalue their work - so it doesn't leave much room to charge what I think my time would be worth. But I love making tees for my friends and family 😊💕
Hi Michele, great to see you again! 😁 I love love your LoDo Dress! I really need to give that pattern another look. Kelly is local here in Denver, and we refer to the older downtown area as LoDo , for Lower Downtown. That may be what this pattern is named for? 🤔 Your work on all those Tee shirts is fantastic! One of my sons was gifted a Cricut a few years ago by his wife, and he does some wonderful things with it. One at a time haha.
Hi Lynn! Thanks for the info on the Lodo dress! That's so interesting - I'll have to dig in and see if that's the case. I LOVE the dress and definitely plan on making more of them!! The Cricut is fun but yes, it's a one at a time machine haha! I timed it all for the cousin shirts - it took 8 minutes for the Cricut to cut each one then 15 minutes for me to weed each one, then about 2 minutes to correctly center and iron on each one. I did it over the course of a few weeks since I had 30 of them to do! 😩
Elodie is French. It’s my daughters name so I spend a lot of time teaching people how to pronounce so A as in the A in Ate Low, Dee 😊 Love all your makes. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Kathe! I had bought some from them a couple of years ago but they didn't have much of a selection then and what I bought was just way too thin and wimpy. I just checked them out and it looks like they've really expanded their assortment. I'll have to buy some samples to see what the quality is like.
Hi Cuz! I love all the pretty fabrics! I've never sewn with scuba, is it easy to work with? The idea of being able to buy ice dyed fabric sounds great to me.. I would definitely be a customer.
I would love some Ice dyed fabric. Depending on the price if I can buy it. The green/blue shower curtain you made a couple years ago is my colors. I would need a couple yards. Would you be able to get it in cotton jersey? I need for t-shirts.
I was going to do mostly wovens like cotton/linen or viscose/linen blends. But I can certainly look into doing some knit fabrics as well. I was probably going to do in 2 yard increments. I figured that would cover most pattern needs. But I'm glad to hear you would be interested if the price is right! Thank you so much for the feedback 😊
I don’t recall if you have a serger or not. You could run the towels for your swatches through the serger and it would cut them and finish one edge of the fabric. You’d have to run the opposite edge(s) through serger separately. Just an idea if your pinking rotary blade doesn’t work well. I have one and dislike it.
Yes, I have a serger 😊. I thought about doing that but I have so many to do - I just didn't want to use up my thread on this project, you know? Plus - once these have gone through the dryer - they won't be at risk of fraying anymore. I used the pinking rotary blade and I love it! So much easier than the shears - at least for me 😊. I appreciate the suggestion!! 💕
Oh my gosh.... I've got a zigzag blade in my set of refills for the rotary cutter. Never thought to actually use it as pinking sheers.... Like a big DUHHHH😵💫 I have wrist problems too and those pinking sheers are just useless for me.
Love the dresses. The tropical one turned out really cute.
Thank you so much! I really love that one - I've already gotten a few wears out of it!
