2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 21k miles and counting had it for 1 1/2 years. No issues took it on 4-5 road trips. Love it

2018 GC Trailhawk owner... 3 years of ownership so far.. fantastic vehicle. Air suspension issues a few times in the first year... Jeep solved the issue under warranty and it’s been good since. Also have had the black screen in the radio... seems to figure itself out like you said. I have owned over 50 vehicles.. this is one of my favourites. Thanks for all the videos. And inspiring me to get it out in the trail more. Cheers.

I like what you are doing here, raising a Jeep Grand Cherokee fraternity. I owned one in Dubai,bought new (3.6 Limited) and used it extensively in desert. I would be the odd one out amongst a swathe of Toyotas and Nissan. It performed exceptionally well with no problems over 2.5 years. I had to finally let it go as i was leaving Dubai. Keep up the good show!

2020 WK2 Trail Hawk with 5.7 - 13 months of ownership with about 15 off-road adventures: 0 mechanical issues & 1 software issue which corrected itself. I would definitely recommend this vehicle.

Good, but 13 months on a brand new vehicle isn't really enough to know if it'll be reliable long term.
@@Evan2 48 months this January and ~ 60k miles. 0 issues. My last Jeep was 12 years and 170k miles with 0 issues as well. Over the same time period, my wife has owned a Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and Subaru Forester. All of which had major mechanical issues and had to be scrapped (she now drives Model 3…fingers crossed). The internet loves to hate on Jeeps but I just don’t see the mechanical issues that everyone else claims to have. With that being said, both Jeeps have their computer based gremlins that pop up from time to time but always correct themselves after turning the car off and back on again.
I had a lease 2016 anniversary edition with the v6. Loved it. But it was constantly in the shop. So when my lease was up I got a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee summit with the 5.7 Hemi. and it’s constantly in the shop as well! I leased my 16 with 3 miles on it and I maintain my cars above average. My summit I bought it used with 15k miles on it. I now have 46k miles! And it’s always in the shop! My engine actually blew on my v6 2016. Engine was fixed under warranty. But if any one is interested just lmk I’ll give you the break down of both my Jeep’s and what problems I had with them both. I still have my summit. Which I love! I just hate it’s in the shop every 4-6 months.
I had a 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the 5.7 hemi for 3 years! Bought brand new and never had an issue in the 17k miles I put on her. Amazing vehicle on road and off road with plenty of room in the back for my two Great Danes! I now have a Gladiator Rubicon and regret it because the Grand Cherokee was so much more comfortable and spacious! Love your videos!!!
I traded in a 2016 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon for a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - one of the last ones made. NO COMPARISON - Grand Cherokee is so much better. Better ride and mileage - comfort galore. Unless you go off-road frequently, the Grand Cherokee is the logical choice. The Wrangler Rubicon with 4.10 gears and a manual transmission does not like to go over 55 MPH.
5 months with my 2019 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk So far so good! I enjoy your channel and seeing what a GC Trailhawk is capable of doing. Not much chance I'll be rock climbing in mine in the Florida panhandle though.

@@InnesPort I'm glad you havent had problems and the previous years can actually be good cars aside from the electrical issues, but the brand new 2020 and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee isnt a true jeep at all, it's actually just a 4x4 Fiat car with a grand Cherokee body. 2012 GC/WK2 Overland Summit 5.7L with LT275/55R20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers in Colorado. Just went over 90k miles this week. Worst problem was UConnect system quit working last year. Replaced with Kenwood unit that works even better. Radiator leak was 2nd worst problem. Replaced with better after market unit. Never any problem off road,, in snow, rocks or mud. Like you mentioned in this video, it does have a personality with a few quirks every now and then which are always associated with electronics and which have always corrrected themselves somehow. I love my WK2 and am very happy that more companies are finally making quality aftermarket upgrades and parts for it. Enjoy watching your vids. Keep 'em coming!

Good review! I have a 2015 Summit and its issues have been electrical as related to the AC (which can produce epic levels of rage here in Texas). I'd love it if the computer/infotainment system had more RAM because it's a bit sluggish. But mechanically, it's been bulletproof. Also, I discovered this channel as I was looking for info on roof racks to hold a rooftop tent and I was blown away at the capability of the Jeep Grand Cherokee that y'all have shown! I didn't think a unibody vehicle could traverse some of the terrain y'all have been doing without experiencing the kind of flex that pops windshields. You've really opened my eyes to what a great SUV the JGC is. Question: What sort of tire (size/make) do y'all recommend for off-road that isn't loud on the highway?
I've seen a lot of GC owners on forums that use Falken tires. One of Falken's tires looks aggressive but apparently doesn't isn't loud on the highway.
Fantastic video Brad, I can relate to the electrical 'gremlins' being a Range Rover owner and the truth is the more modern and sophisticated they design these vehicles the more little hiccups like the ones you described will come up.
I was off-roading yesterday with a friend who had a lifted Jeep and I was pushing my RRS hard to keep up with his lines and got a fault and lost off-road height with the suspension. I know it was just an error and nothing broken, so we took a 10 min snack break, I locked the truck up and after 10 mins everything was back up and running again and no other issues for the rest of the trip.
You restart your laptop when a program isn't running correctly or you have some glitch with it, vehicles are basically the same thing now.
Try dis.connecting the battery.for a re.boot.all you need is a tool kit.aka 10 m.m. wrench.or better yet .just install a quick connect at batt.terminal.

I had an '05 GC for 9 years and loved it. Some off-road use. Only traded for F150 for better tow vehicle. Since I retired I have been driving for a couple dealerships and the newer GC is awesome! I would highly recommend it!
The Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 has been around since 2011. Its a well-sorted vehicle in later models. I have a 2018 Overland and am delighted with it. Surveys/Reports are sometimes misleading as owners are not familiar with features such as U-Connect or safety features and thus give their vehicle a bad name. The old adage "ask the person who drives one" is the best measure of a driver's experience. Your JGC has had a huge amount of off-road workouts and i really enjoy watching your episodes on the trails. I like your final summary - from hard trail work to continuing on the pavement at 80mph. There's virtually no other vehicle that can do both in such style and comfort. Thanks.

I think when it comes to Jeep, I think there can be a lot of electrical issues. There’s a lot of reasons I got one of the most basic versions and thats because I feel like there’s less that can go wrong. Great review

Good topic, one that I contemplated for a couple years until buying a used 2015 GRC Limited with 22,000 miles last spring. I struggled between the idea of a Jeep or 4runner for a long time but the low mileage, super clean Jeep won me over. My first Jeep was an XJ I purchased in 1986 and have owned 6 Jeeps in total with a 99 xj I currently use off-road. Very few troubles over the years. Then the electrical gremlins hit my 2015 just recently. Service 4wd system light comes on occasionally and won't go into 4wd low. Other than that, it's fine. Code suggests a bad transfer case control module or related wiring. Brad, I was wondering about your suggestion of a hard reset. I just wonder sometimes if software can get corrupted. How do you go about a hard reset on these vehicles? Any other comments are appreciated, before I take it in!

That said, much to early to consider or declare true reliability. I’d like to see someone with 125k miles or greater let us know if they have had major repairs and even what minor repairs.

i am at 118k, with a '14 ecodiesel. First major issue was a blown rear airbag right at 117.5k. I also am immaculate about fluid changes. Trans fluid/pan change at 55k, oil change every 4500 (with amsoil premium) No other issues to note. At all. I use as a daily driver and some rough off roading
I appreciate this channel showing what the Grand Cherokee can do off road, I've always thought it is overlooked in the overland YT community. There are so many channels running Toyotas that its starting to get old. Every vehicle will have some issues and need maintenance over 200k miles. People say Toyotas will run forever but forget to mention the widespread frame rust issues and peeling paint problems.
My Toyota Corolla needed a new engine at 83K miles, my friends Tacoma new engine at 125K miles, neighbors Rave 4 burned 1 qt oil every 1000 miles, he took it to the dealer, the dealer told him that is just the way toyota is, POS toyota
But Toyota’s do run forever!
My GC altitude 2018 has been fantastic except aux battery issue for stop-start - it’s faulty one and made the car down within one month from buying. I really love this car. I wish I can upgrade mine to high altitude.
I've owned a lifetime's worth of off-road vehicles over 50 years. I recently traded off my 10 year old 2011 Laredo Grand Cherokee for the 2021 GC/TH. First a word about the Laredo -- I had it for ten years and 125,000 miles , some of it easy off-road, but most of it highway driving and it was probably the most reliable car I've ever owned. It was a Hemi powered 4x4 and most of its off-roading was related to my extensive hunting and fishing, so I didn't push its performance envelope often, but having had a few Rubicon Wranglers in my day, I was certain that it could handle a more frequent and stressful off-road life than the one it got. Kudo's to the manufacturer as far as I'm concerned. I traded only because I wanted a new car without giving up the great Jeep experience I'd come to expect in my life. I really don't know that the new toy will get much more tough off-roading than the old one did, but I suspect it will, if for no other reason than I'd like to try our some of the updated off-road gadgetry it has and I'd like to have a chance to compare the comfortable TrailHawk to the Rubicons I used to run through their paces on a regular basis. I've ordered rock rails to eliminate my one remaining excuse for not proceeding directly past Go already. I'll let you know how it goes.
I have a 2018 GC Overland with 30K. Minor U-Connect issues that have gone away with an automatic update from Jeep. My icons would move on my customized home screen and now they don’t. Love your channel and I love my Grand Cherokee it’s an incredible vehicle.

2018 GCTH V8 with 25k miles and I really like the vehicle. This is coming from a Ram 2500 Cummins. I had one problem right after I purchased it in late 2017 when we had very cold temperatures and it displayed a "service air suspension immediately" warning. I checked the fuse for the air compressor and it was blown. I had no other problems after that and was told by the dealer that sometimes there maybe a small amount of moisture in the system which causes this when very cold. After that , I have had no other issues and love the vehicle. Tows a 5k trailer very well. Thanks Brad for posting honest and useful videos!

I was a jeep dealership mechanic for years since the AMC days and never thought I would own one because I've always thought they were junk from my experience working on them, especially in the 80s. Today I own my first jeep and it's a 2011 jeep grand Cherokee limited with the 5.7 hemi. It has almost every option you can get and I absolutely love it. It's the most powerful, comfortable, luxurious, and capable vehicle I've ever owned. I bought it used and in the past 30,000 miles I've put on it, it's turned into a money pit. Parts are so incredibly expensive for a jeep and every time I turn around I'm having to spend $100 here, $200 there and just last week I was stranded because the alternator went out and I had to spend $500 for an alternator, and the bad thing about that is the alternator was still good, but because Chrysler chose to just press on the pulley without having a keyway, the pulley was just spinning around the alternator shaft and not turning the alternator! So far I've had to remove the intake to replace the oil control valve for the mds, replace the heater hose assembly, replace the headlight bulb which costs $100 for hid headlights, replace the radiator cap, and just recently the alternator. For every single repair it's cost $100 or more, and that's just for parts as I do the repairs myself. If I had to pay someone for the repairs it would go into the thousands! I still love my jeep but it's getting very expensive to keep it going! The price for parts is outrageous!

I just picked a CPO 2019 Limited 4x4 V6. After a month, the only 'issue' I've had is the door locks don't always lock at 15mph. Sometimes it's 25mph, sometimes 30. It varies. And I can count on one hand how many times it's happened.
Just the video I needed, thanks you. With having not the best experience with Ford Bronco reservation model I've been looking at the Jeep GC. Owning a '19 Wrangler JLU that we really enjoy the GC seemed the best direction go for with the way it will be used. We're looking for a long road trip vehicle that will do some light off roading along the way that drives a bit better that the JLU. While the JLU doesn't drive terrible it does drive like a 2 solid axle vehicle, and on long trip it can get a bit tiring. Thank you for this reliability video. It told me what I needed to move forward with mu GC research.

If you bought a new GC but didn't pay for an extended warranty, keep in mind you can still purchase the warranty any time before the 3/36 expires either directly from FCA or through a Jeep dealer.
FCA and most dealers will sell it (choice of term lengths) at full retail, but there are a few dealers that sell the FCA factory warranty at a steep discount. Look around on the Jeep forums. (Of course, stay away from any 3rd party warranty.)
Had my 2017 trailhawk GC for over. Year now, and I have only experienced the volume issue a couple of times, other than that absolutely no issues. I love it so much!! About to hit 60k miles. Hope to keep it nice and good until I have to replace the motor. Hopefully that won't be for a good few years. This is the last vehicle I plan to buy for a very long time.

I have been 4x4ing for a LOT of years, and have literally worn out several prior "brand-new-purchased-by-me" 4x4 rigs before buying my brand new 2015 Jeep GC Ecodiesel Overland w/ Offroad adventure II/Quadra-Drive and Quadralift, which I have modified in a similar fashion as yours. Before purchasing my WK2 I compared it to a Toyota 4Runner, which the salesman let me take off-road (with him). He got it stuck, and we had to get a ride back to the dealership to pick up my old 2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71 4x4 to pull the brand new 4Runner out of the mud. A week later I ordered my WK2 specially built built from the factory and after delivery proceeded to modify it for off-roading, Never regretted it! I have banged it up pretty good off road a couple of times, and fortunately the additional bash plates (Chief Products, Mopar Rocksliders) have protected it, albeit with some panel damage repairs required a couple of times. And I LOVE the 32" Wrangler Duratrac tires that I have been running for about the past 25,000 miles (my 3rd set, including the other 2 sets that I ran on the old Chevy Tahoe). I currently have about 54,000 miles on my WK2. My biggest complaint is that it eats brakes WAY too often -- I am on my 3rd set of rears and 2nd set fronts (switched to Akebonos on the rears this last time; fingers crossed!). I think because of the significant amount of off-roading that I do at my place in northern Michigan, that a lot of mud, sand and gravel gets caught in between the brake pads and the rotors, and just wears everything out very quickly (that's my theory, anyway -- I used to break axels in the old Chevy!). Are we able to see the differences between the Hemi 5.7 v8 Petrol, 3.6 V6 Petrol, and the 3.0 V6 TDiesel reliability experiences? Any feedback? Also thanks for the videos very intuitive. My 2015 JGC Overland Diesel has been a great offroad performer and only recently started having some Fuel Rail Pressure issues. Noticeable at highway driving and between 1.5-2.5k revs where it feels as though the engine is not getting enough fuel. Sometimes Limp mode can engage and cause you to go the dealership to fix. Overall very reliable car but diagnosis of issues can be quite frustrating. Fuel Sensors / Fuel Filters and Fuel Pump diagnosis there's not much out there except your dealership can find the fault. Lots of videos with older model Jeep GC's. Apologies if you've stated this in a video prior that I may not have seen.

HI. Have a 2011 for 2 years. Generally saying I'm off-roading once a week for 1-2 days. the only problem I had was when it was new to me. One of the headlights had a humidity inside the lens. the electronic system stopped the WK2, and I had to tow it to the shop. They replaced the headlight and since then everything is working smooth, on and off road.

We have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited. It now has 110,000 miles. It was recalled twice. Once was to reprogram the computer so the car would go into Park if the door was opened. The second was to program the computer when they found the U Connect system could be hacked remotely. Other than that, we have had zero issues. We have done oil changes and one set of tires. That is it. I would highly recommend a Grand Cherokee. Ours is the standard 3.6 engine.

Love your channel. I have 2019 trailhawk and have 30,000 miles on it with the 3.6 penstar. I bought it new and no issues of any kind so far. I also abuse it taking it on trails.

Order a new quick dis.connect battery power cable. Re.booter.it will cure all the alwayes present jeep.dodge.chrysler 70 year old electrical issues.;)

How does the V6 perform? The V6 isn’t really built for the durango
WK2 Jeep Owner 85k miles. I have exprienced several common issues such as cylinder head failure and also the oil filter housing leak. I have also encounter some minor electrical issues.
although it has created a bit drama for me I wouldn't hestate to buy another jeep. they are definitely great car to drive.
Really love the updates. You guys are definitely putting out the best WK2 content. I have a GC SRT myself and it is by far the best vehicle I've owned..I came from a wrangler Unlimited, so offroad-ness is something I miss, but the on road characteristics are night and day better compared to the JK. It's just such a comfortable vehicle to drive. I know the srt isn't the same thing as the trailhawk, but I'm sure the ride is good and steering is tight across the GC board.
I'd love to have an offroad GC, but I am weary of the air suspension. Lots of reports of it not working in the cold (I'm in Chicago), and having some issues in Colorado. Obviously your experience has been great, and you've proven it's an extremely capable vehicle despite the full independent suspension.
I'm waiting to see how the Rivian electric SUV and Bronco turn out before I make a vehicle change, but your videos on the GC have given me much more confidence in the platform. Cheers 🍻

Doesn't a JGC SRT have a Quadra-Trac I drivetrain with the addition of the ELSD rear differential?
@@jimwheeler6094 to be honest I'm not entirely sure. There isn't a ton of information out there on it. There are a few differing opinions on the forums as to what it has. This site has it with a Quadra Trac variant with an E-lsd, but a lot of people think we just have open diffs. There is a UA-cam video of the srt doing a diagonal test with wheels off the ground. It definitely seems to have some sort of brake system to keep the wheels going electronically, but that's as far as I can tell.

@@jakeswanson8579, if it has the little axle actuator motor on the rear diff then it's an ELSD. From what I've read, the WK2 SRT does.
Absolutely love mine.My uconnect acts a little wonky once in awhile but no worse than a friends f150.
210,000 km on my Laredo 2011 no issues at all most comfortable and capable rig I've ever owned
We purchased a 14 JGC limited with a few miles on it. The only thing we have really run into is the floorboard has filled with water and you could hear it when stopping. We drained it through the bottom of the car. Remote start acts up every once in awhile. Has the 5.7 and has been a really fun vehicle.
Nice video Brad. I have had some glitches also with the touch screen. It would lock up in "rear camera" mode. But turning it off and then back on was the cure. The big one I think for V6 owners is the aux battery which is under the passenger seat. If it goes, you are stuck. The vehicle will give you time to pull over and then, your a tow. It appears it is not on the hemi model. Just FYI. I live in Arizona where batteries only last two years... NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY ARE! Lol. They were under warranty on my 2018 Trailhawk. Bill was 600 and change had they not been. Love the WK2. Good insight my friend. Hope family is well. See ya soon.

No issues with mine, dealer replaced the water pump under warranty at 27.8k miles because it had a small leak (did not fail outright!) then learned that it was a common issue with some Hemi equipped WK2! Other than that, flawless now with 52K miles!

Just love my 2018 Laredo 4 by 4. I did have the evaporator replaced under warranty. The u-connect did freeze once on start up. I shut the Jeep off and restarted and it was fine. I can get 30mpg on the highway at 55. Stop and go in town is around 14mpg.
I bought the 2019 Trailhawk because I knew Jeep had worked out most of the issues with the earlier models. The V6 seems to be more reliable and cheaper to maintain over the HEMI too. We have had 25k demanding miles on ours with no issues other than the seat belt buckle needing to be replaced. Luckily zero issues related to the uConnect or ECU. I plan on doing all the maintenance and get this thing up to 200k with no issues.

Agreed about the V-6. The bugs have been worked out of that engine. It’s also a stout performer.
The baby brother to the 3.6, the 3.2. is offered in the Cherokee, and is the preferred engine for that product line. It’s a port-injected engine, which TO ME is preferable because of the carbon buildup in gasoline direct injection engines such as the 2.0 turbo unit also offered in the Cherokee.
Owned a 2016 JGC 75th Anniversary Laredo for 5 years and put 178k miles on it, most of which was highway due to a long work commute. Zero maintenance concerns for the first 165k miles. In fact, I went over 170k miles on the original brakes and still had a bit of pad left. In the last 6-9 months of ownership I encountered the following: 1. Needed software update for backup sensor (wouldn't disengage, so I couldn't back up with a trailer without the emergency brake kicking on). 2. Transfer case Leak. 3. Engine Mounts Leak. 4. Water Pump Replaced. 5. Check Engine Light (EGR Valve). Would have been smart to sell it at 150k miles in hindsight.
Thanks, Brad! Same malfunction junction with UConnect on my '18 TH, ~half dozen or so instances. The majority of said episodes on mine seem related to CarPlay. The Gremlins do seem to "automagically" fix themselves overnight from my experience, as well. And no, I don't feed them after midnight!
Just a heads up, my UConnect just did a software update. Fingers crossed!
What I did to handle the electrical issues of GC was to print the fuse box map and whenever uconnect or something would playup, I would reset them by removing the fuse.

Hi, I have a model the same as yours.
I find it difficult to climb or down with the gearbox that does not block the gears and that even with the sequential mode changes the gears in unpleasant moments.
I've never found a video or your comments on it. Did they lose them or does yours keep the gears locked?
I recently got a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude (not too sure if it’s a WK) with 95k miles because my credit wasn’t good enough for a newer Ford Ranger. Within a week my auto Stop/Start service light came on. Did I make a bad decision choosing this vehicle? Any tips or advice on how to keep it well-maintained beyond the normal “fluids and oil change”?

Have a 2012 Larado X loaded all but sunroof. One major issue was ventilation system with the gates failing switching from cold / hot. Minor issue was squealing belt guide needing replacing after 150 kilometers. Transmission issue fixed with software update free from dealer.
I know this comment maybe a bit late to the party but I am wondering about this: Land Rover Discovery 3 had similar electrical gremlins. One thing I read on those forums was to actually replace the battery to something far beefier than what originally came with it. This did seem to get many of those issues resolved on the Disco 3. I wonder if something similar might be needed here? What do you think?
I have a 2018 trailhawk with the 5.7. I haven't really had any issues in the last few years except the screen on the head unit delaminating. I was able to fix it by disassembling it and using fishing line to separate the digitizer, cleaned and reassembled with double sided tape. It was a few bucks to fix, although if I wasn't handy it probably would have cost a few grand at a dealer to replace the head unit

How’s your experience thus far? We leased a Grand Cherokee back in 2000 and loved it but wasn’t so sure about reliability as the next car we bought was an 03 Honda Pilot. Almost 20 years down the road and 213,000 miles later, this Honda Pilot is still going strong with an annual maintenance averaging of around $400-$600. Our next SUV, we would like to buy, so reliability is #1 as I want it to last at least 10 years and 200,000 miles. Would you be confident based on your experience that your Jeep is capable of lasting that long? Thanks and hoping to hear from ya..

I have an employee in CA that has over 300k on his 2011 Grand Cherokee. It doesn’t have much in the way of bells and whistles but it’s been dead reliable. Granted those are highway miles but they are mostly traveling route 99 so they aren’t exactly easy miles in terms of road surface. I’ve had good experiences with the Uconnect systems in my Grand Cherokee’s and in a Pacifica. I think it glitched once in the Pacifica but I’m not bouncing them down trailer either. We actually lemon lawed an AWD Sienna for electrical gremlins.
The 2011 JGC is on its third recall for stalling while driving. What is FCA's latest fix for the problem? Why of course it is the same as the previous two "fixes"!
Bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with 66,000 miles. It's the best highway car I've ever driven. Better than the Cadillacs, Towncars, and Continentals I've owned. Haven driven it about 5,000 hwy miles. Am in Colorado now and will be testing it on rough roads.

I have a 2020 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 that I bought with 36,000 miles on it. I'm now at 86,000+ and it's been great. I bought the base model on purpose. It doesn't have air suspension or a lot of the extra electronics and because of that, it has been nearly flawless. The Uconnect stereo is a little bit weird now and then, but I can live with that. I bought this to get me to remote alpine lakes in New Mexico and Colorado so I can fly fish. The Active Trak 1 with a good set of tires and a healthy dose of common sense gets me there reliably every time. My only mods are a 2 inch leveling kit and a good set of all terrain tires. What I do is pretty mild compared to what most of your viewers are probably doing, but my "soft-roader" is perfect for me and I plan to keep it for as long as I can.
Brad seems like your attracting some proud GC followers here in the Comment Section. I would like to ask how many GC owners here following Brad Special ordered their vehicles and built it with the options they wanted and who bought from the Dealer selection of new or used inventory.
Our 2020 Trailhawk GC was Built and ordered in Dec. 2019 delivered March 2020. Redline Red Pearlcoat. I wanted the CD player and my wife wanted the Luxury Package and LED Lighting Group. Pentastar V6 our choice because we don't tow anything larger than a hobby trailer. We also really like the dependability of the V6 Pentastar engine we had the same engine in three previous Wranglers we owned.
Miss my 2019 Trailhawk w/5.7, no issues and no issues with 4 previous Jeeps. My 2022 Overland w/5.7 has been in the shop 5 times. Camera sensor issues.
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7 liter V8 engine, with currently 213,000 miles. Bought it a few years ago, for very little money ($3700), with nearly 190,000 miles on it. Since then I've had to replace the engine and transmission (which was very expensive) and a few other repairs (waterpump, ignition key). I replaced the original radio and upgraded the speakers. Since then it's been super reliable, everything just works fine. I use it for commuting but also trips to et Tahoe in both summer and winter, never an issue regarding reliability. Gas mileage is not great (between 11 to 19 mpg) but that's 2005 technology with a thirsty big V8 engine.
I took a 1995 Grand Limited to over 350K mi and then a 1999 to 431k mi, (original engine and tranny).
Currently have a 2012 Overland Summit that I love and hate with 130k so far. Dumped a ton of money into expensive fixes, since I don't think they build them like they used to. But it is fun to drive and
and I sure hope to get at least another 100k mi out of it, we'll see.....
Long time Jeep owner (5), current is 2018 JGC Limited with Quadra Trac II. I’d like to see more videos on capabilities of the QT II. No issues with the JGC, just regular maintenance. It’s a beast in the snow.

@@mlewis3160 No chains, just all terrain tires. When snow is deep (6+) I do use snow mode on the select-terrain. I’ve found snow mode useful for snow in the 3-5 inch range too depending on whether it’s a wet or dry snow.
2015 GC Overland, besides the fuel door getting stuck, no mechanical problems. In the last year NAV/GPS has started to not track correctly. 82K miles.
I was a mechanic for almost 30 years and I was THE jeep mechanic in our local dealership back in the 80s when AMC still owned jeep, and except for the grand wagoneer and the CJ, they were junk and I would have never owned one. But today I own a 2011 grand and I absolutely love it! The only thing I hate about it is the ground clearance and I'm planning on a lift kit, but so far it's been the best and most capable vehicle I've ever owned. I still haven't set up 75% of the technical stuff it offers, but I love my jeep, especially the hemi engine!! I would put my jeep up against any 4x4 on the road today!

I love jeeps but the 2011 electrical issues are annoying did not know the 11 was known for that just bought the wrong year. My 1998 ran for 18 years 350000 miles and still ran. Climbed rocks in Colorado and was better at it than the trucks. Very comfortable vehicle. Way more than its competitors
I think you're right, FCA seems to skimp on the software development budget.
I have had no problems with mine ('18 TH), but it only has about 23K miles. The '14 GCs had some issues, mostly software related, that dragged down survey scores for three years. But it's improved since.
While FCA products usually rate lower in 3 yr surveys, statistically, there is not enough difference between the most trouble free brand (Lexus - less than one problem per car) and the worst, (Land Rover sometimes - over 2 problems per car) to base a purchase decision on, IMO.

Spot on discussion on reliability of the WK2 platform. Owned a new 2018 Sterling (Limited) and now I’m in a new 2020 Trailhawk. With the 2018, the drivetrain, brakes, and even the stock tires lasted to 50k with zero issues. Only weird things I ever dealt with was the Uconnect system “personality” issues as described. The brain. However, I found that before I connect my iPhone, I turn off the WiFi on the phone and unlock the screen and typically that creates a no-issue. Or lock up. It does not like Microsoft Teams for those working off the system. And the driver seat memory went once, but just required a system reboot. Nothing mechanical. I think the user interface of the Uconnect system is best in class and worth the occasional glitch.

We were in the same situation. 2015 WK2 or 4Runner. Price and features WK2 was spot on. We are beginning to build it into an overlander. It’s my wife’s daily driver. We got the limited 4x4. Love it.

I had issues with my uconnect system. The firmware isn't always reliable to upload. And sometimes when I start my vehicle my uconnect won't "start" or turn on. When I got a Noco Genius charger my issue went away. Other than that we love ours! We can't wait till were in Phoenix to take it outdoors on the trails.

I own, since brand new, a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I drove it, like I stole it sometimes, 90,000 miles, I use the paddle shifters to modulate speed on declines, and I still have the factory front rotors and pads on it, I replaced the rear rotor and pads around 85,000 miles, I also had to replace the water pump around 80,000 miles. Not to shabby to say the least. My son will be driving it soon, I got a 4xe Grand Cherokee, I like learning a new way to drive that! I did lease that 4xe, because I can!
After test driving a 2011 Overland a couple of years ago, I was nearly in love; it felt amazing to drive compared to any other vehicle I'd had. I started looking for a 2017 CPO. Then I read about reliability issues from several online sources (electrical, transmission most commonly) including that 2017 was a bad year for transmission problems, and I became reluctant. We have a 2014 Jeep GC 4x4 Laredo. Except for a transmission, which was replaced after 3 years, it has never left us stranded. There are a few niggly known issues (A/C flapper and A/C fuse will melt in the Summer) but still keeps tickin' along..
I owned a 2015 G C overland and sold it with 175000 miles and it had literally zero malfunctions so much so I'm looking at picking up another so for a weekender.
My Jeep Compass had issues from the factory. Air bag sensor was bad and after a month all the airbags didn’t work. Front end noises and poor fuel economy. I want a trailhawk brand new but now I’m kind scared because my absolute number one pet peeve is inconvenience
2011 overland from day one, (Love your channel btw), and I wouldn't give it up for the world, air suspension and all, it's set up for the street and all, but thank you for showing people what it is capable of. All things have problems and being truthful 👍👍👍👍

Have the 2008 Overland with the V6 Mercedes diesel, has 118000 and apart from a bit of rust underneath and a few dings in the bodywork my only issue has been the injector leak off pipe split and dumped diesel over the engine, replaced in the drive at home without to much trouble. However the UConnect system is playing up so i'll probably replace it with one of the Android ones in the near future.
I had a 3rd gen 4Runner and then went to a 4th gen 4Runner that I kept for 10 years. Then I switched to Jeep with a 2015 Grand Cherokee Overland. I traded that in on a 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, only because I REALLY wanted a Trailhawk. That 2017 Trailhawk was rear ended at a light and totaled, so i went out and got an identical Trailhawk, a 2019 model that I still have today. Out of my last five vehicles, my Jeeps have not had one single issue ever. My 4Runners were pretty good overall, but not without issues. One of the biggest issues that seem to plague all 4th 4Runners is frozen pistons in the front calipers. Mine needed to be replaced every two years like clockwork. Overall though, the Jeeps are just so much better overall and in my experience, more reliable too.
My wife and I bought two 2014 JGC (an Overland and a base 4x4 Laredo) as Cert. Preowned with less than 30,000 miles on them and have owned them for 6 and 5 years, respectively. Thus far, no issues other than an early on transmission reprogram which was covered by manufacturer warranty performed on both vehicles by dealer. KNOCK ON WOOD! i recently acquired a '23 Tacoma Off Road as back up tho, lol.
Hi, I drive a GC 2017 Diesel Limited here in Europe,Germany. I made a lot of overlanding drives in Croatia, Bosnia, Austria(Alps), Italy(Alps), Germany in Trailparks and no problems. I bought my GC with 45 000km in Dez. 2019 from first owner and now it has ower 80 000 km . I just love my GC V6 Diesel. 7 -10 Lit/100 km Fuelconsuption, 8 speed Autotransmision works just perfect. Upgrade to come 2.5 inch Lift and 33 Inch Tires.

I fixed my air suspension issue by replacing the fuse with an after market fuse. It seems the ones that Jeep uses are weak or faulty. It took replacing it a few times and then the issue just stopped. I have uconnect issues as well, it’s annoying but doesn’t impact drivability. I have a 2018 GCTH and I just love it. I love being able to transition from trail to highway without issue.

Had A 2015. Cherokee trailhawk. Just was totaled in and accident. Had her for 4 yrs. With. Zero problems. I replaced the battery. That's it. So I just bought A 2018 grand cherokee. Trailhawk. 3.6 ltr. And she's a beast. If u pm your vehicles you'll have very little problems. I have taken the new one to Ziebart for all the protection. Just like thee other I had. I feel jeeps an awesome Ride.
Our 2006 3.7 has over 300,000 miles on it.

2018 GC Overland 4x4. Chief and Mopar skid plates front to rear and Rocky Road Tire2Tire rock rails. Only a couple minor issues. Both batteries replaced under warranty. Evap leak. Best one was the fuse panel under the hood was missing the metal connector to make the rear 12v socket constant on. Had to go to another dealer to find someone who understood the problem. They replaced the whole fuse panel to fix issue. Minor issues with Uconnect and making voice calls with Android phone. But overall much better than my LR3.
Great to hear looking at getting a 2018 GC Overland 4x4 this week and putting the most skid plates on. Did you keep the 20’s on it. Mostly road driving but will definitely go off road as well here in Mi. Thanks for posting! Also, video made me feel better about the purchase!
We have a 2013 WK2 grand CRD overland. Alternator went on 15000 miles, but after researching it seems Jeep did a recall on this for the 3.6, but not the CRD. :(
I have owned my JGC since April 2016 and have not yet had to take it for a repair. All regular maintenance so far. Though I have had some (4) quirky things happen over the years - all connected to that damn stop/go function.

You mentioned that you were a Honda owner and I have a question about that brand and over landing. I subscribe to a channel called JDZ adventures and he has taken the Honda passport with a lift and bigger tires and has shown some impressive capabilities of that model within the over landing community. It’s my understanding that the Honda ridgeline is built on the Honda passport platform so we are also looking at that model with an eventual 2 inch lift and bigger tires. Do you have any experience with owners of those Honda models within the over landing community and what is your opinion on its capability?
