Hawk and Animal grew up in Minnesota, and went to school with Curt...so they knew Larry as children and im sure looked up to him as a father figure too...

Back in those days Heavy Metal was peaking. The Road Warriors came out to Iron-Man and that gave the kids, the rebellious teens, and the younger fans a new look. Hogan was still the cutesy boy, but the badasses were making their mark. Between the Road Warriors and later on a faint copy Demolition, the leather the spikes, the face paint made them icons for the younger fans and that grew into the attitude era eventually where a "bad" guy was actually cool and not a Heel.

Years ago in The Original Philadelphia Civic Center i have a few pictures with Animal, Hawk and Paul and they were big guys but the best thing of these pictures they were taken by Nancy Sullivan/Benoit and later with her son was killed by Chris Benoit.
I used to have this on a VHS tape that I bought as a kid from the Chehalis K-Mart. A couple years later while AWA Champion Curt Hennig was in the Portland Area and I met him at a monday night show in Longview! I was amazed how big he actually was. I guess seeing him in the ring with these can skew things. A short time later he showed up as Mr Perfect in the WWF.

Don Coss was a great play by play guy.It was his first time calling a Road Warriors match,give the guy a break.A few months back JR kept getting the Briscos bros confused on the New Japan show cause he wasn't familiar with them.It happens to the best from time to time.

Just imagine when Larry Hennig was teaming with harley race 20 years prior to this match. Race is widely regarded (and deservedly so) as one of the toughest men ever in wrestling, but i have to believe that the Ax was just as tough.
I recall when I read Harley Race's autobiography that him & Larry Hennig did a snowmobile race that was like 500 miles. Larry Hennig did a photo op before the race & it jad him military pressing his snowmobile. Hennig also finished that race like in the top 5.

I saw Larry in a Culver’s back in 2012 when I was 12 years old. I wanted to go up to him but I was too afraid and didn’t want to bother him. I remember looking up his photo to make sure it was him and I couldn’t stop looking at him lol. Wonder if he noticed, but I kind of regret not going up to him all these years later. Maybe it would have made him happy because I doubt he got noticed much in 2012 and especially by a 12 year old. But such is life. Rip Larry.
The great thing about Curt Hennig's career is that he enjoyed incredible fame and success on his own terms for years after his famous father retired. The same could not be said for someone like Greg Gagne, who never got out from under his father's shadow.

+bobmcklv The Road Warriors were only known through magazines. The AWA was not on television out here. People forget that AWA may have called its strap a world title, but it wasn't even nationwide. What this is is one of the only supercards you'll ever see with wrestlers from the NWA, the AWA and the WWF all working the same show.
As stated the AWA was mainly an upper midwest promotion that also ran San Fransisco Denver and IIRC Salt Lake City. It was one of the last territories that held on(for a while) after Vince Mcmahon took the then WWF national.

Larry Hennig and Harley Race were AWA tag champions back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. They had a long time feud with the Dick the Bruser and the Crusher. One of the best battles of all time. All four would be bloody and beaten to a pulp in every match

I read a book a few years ago wrote by one of the Road Warriors, (I can't remember which) in which he lead the readers to believe that everyone but Rick Rude was scared of them. I suspect that to be an exaggeration. For starters I don't think Larry Henning looks like he needs to or would be scared by much of anybody. And theirs a few others that I believe didn't need to be scared of them.Now they were a very marketable team.And a few bricks shy a load in their personal life.
two things i noticed...Curt wasn't selling much towards the end...he barely reacted to the double clothesline ...and damn that Billy Jack Haynes was huge, he towered over Hawk!
