Day 1 ally z1 extreme user here, havent had a issue with this unit yet since release... ive played COD other great games on thia device. Isnt 120 fps but 60 fps doesnt bother me.. its like having a mini computer basically.
Asus is under a lot of heat, like a SD card in a ROG Ally, but they really do give you a lot in the Ally. It has power, speakers, battery, and VRR in 1080p.
I would say a Gaming PC white scheme is probably most popular but when comes too handheld devices or consoles / phones i think Black is better compared too white. White is still nice

Ya know... i can see this fixing problems people have with the switch, but i would be worried that if a stick gets messed up or even worn down, i have to take it apart or buy a new one. Thats the main reason i never tried to buy any of these... though i would love the versatility, i just dont want to drop that kind of money on something i cant just replace the controller on.
I bought the first one, sold it, and pre-ordered the X. It played a very good amount of AAA games. The thing i loved about it was the mods, third party mods to run cooler are what's really nice about it.
I prefer black, especially if you have sweaty hands. Although white looks great, it does collect grime and turns yellow over time, so you dock it and it defeats portability
You should wash your hands regularly and clean your devices and phones with alcohol swabs regularly for hygiene reasons. These things, controllers and phones are a petri dish for bacteria growth. Touch screen devices are notorious for things like staff infection due to people never sanitising their devices. Pretty gross stuff.
If I had never bought my regular Ally, i'd be super excited for this. Super cool upgrades. I like the two C type ports. However, my regular Ally works just fine and i cant justify buying another
I have the original ROG Ally and I don't see any reason for upgrading since I have it docked 90% of the time, and even if I play handheld, I still plug it for sharp performance. I must say though I am very very pleased with the original. I'll probably upgrade mine in the next 5 years if games start being more demanding and the Ally has gone through a few iterations!
@@Mike-wc3jo Steam deck can run Cyber punk at 40 fps. Its actually runs really good at low wattage compared to the ROG ally. Mainly because of its Custom APU and optimization. Not sure about this new one, but this one is packing twice the battery. For the price of under 400 bucks Steam deck is the King for budget hand held.
It’s like these things come out with a new version every other month. They should focus on more software support for these than just pumping out more devices
All it improved was the battery and ram. Everything else they changed no one asked for. They need better customer support. A track pad at least. Also fix the heating that burns micro sd. For that reason that's why I love my leigon go. It has all those issues fixed.
I have the Rog Ally, and I havent had any drift what so ever. Most drift are due to dirt getting stuck under the joystick. Just gotta get compressed are and blow it in their. Fixed

It's really cool but ffs why they didnt increase the monitor and decrease the bezels around , because of this i still see the legion go more way better as still can detach the controller and if something happened in future i can replace them not have to open the whole device and unplug the motherboard to can fix a thing they should think about the comfort for the user but they are not
I've been seeing more and more of these types of devices from brands. But I don't understand how they work? Is it basically a hand held computer? Are you able to play games off of steam? What about Xbox? How would one play Forza Horizon if they don't use the cloud gaming?

So, if you get one of these and want to upgrade the SSD straight out of the box, are you able to do that before initially booting it up? Or do you have to boot it up, turn it off and then install the new SSD?
You don't have to boot it up or anything. You can pop it open, switch to a bigger storage and you're good to go. If you don't want to go through the process of cloning the drive you can use the cloud recovery and it will set up Windows and everything on the new drive.

I think the track pads on the steam deck are awesome, but tbh that's the only plus that the deck has over it. The Rog is substantially more powerful, feels way more like an actual handheld, and it runs windows so you don't have to deal with the run arounds of a device that runs on Linux...i.e. unable to run and play xbox GamePass games natively and can only use GamePass by streaming with the steamdeck I suppose one could also argue the display is a bit better on the deck, but a lot have said the rog allys screen is pretty good for it not being an oled, make that what you will 😅

Not sure how you came up with "another $700". The original Ally Z1 Extreme is technically $650 (but you can find those open box for under $400 during Best Buy sales).
In europe (France for example), Rog ally X cost more than 900 Euros. Wtf is wrong with them charging us this Handheld so expensive where you are not even putting an OLED/AMOLED Display and not even including directely a Case to protect and can bring it safely anywhere we want ?? If these specs cost us for around 500 Euros then yes, the whole HAndheld market would skyrocket but no, so damn expensive. Everything Video Games related are so expensive right now. I mean dont get me wrong, I grew up with GBA and PSP so I had high expectation for the new Handheld.

I had the z1 extreme too and it was awful battery life was 30-45 mins if lucky and kicked me out of apex legends consistently

Not sure but I can confirm you will have to go thru booting and installing bios all over again once you do put in the new ssd.

This runs Windows 11, so basically, it's a full-fledged PC. You can run any game on it from across all stores and launchers
