  • Here's a rare recording of a great bass solo Jaco closed the show with when his 2nd WOM sextet played in Ann Arbor Michigan, on October the 30th in 1983. In this solo he starts off by playing "Continuum" and solos over it briefly before moving on to create all sorts of mystical soundscapes with looping. This includes him doing a tribute to Jimi Hendrix by playing "Third Stone From The Sun, "Purple Haze" and "The Star Spangled Banner" in true Hendrix spirit before ending the solo with a lovely version of "America The Beautiful". An inspired performance by Jaco who really takes the listener on a wild ride through this wonderland of sounds.

This is great! You can hear how new Jaco's strings are. So bright. I bet he changed his strings just for this show.

He changed his strings for most shows as long as he could afford to do so

@@LageUA-cam What do you mean most shows, long as he could afford it? Are you telling me Jaco was broke all the time and couldn't afford to buy strings on a regular basis? If you are I'm not quite sure you're right. I know someone who knew him personally communicateing on a regular basis during his life time. He told me Jaco had all the resources available to him through his music connection's and for some reason chose to sleep in a park under a bench.

@@bAgRiMoIrEsS.4 He had money but I find it hard to believe he could afford to buy the specific set of strings for every show he did.

@@LageUA-cam Oh' of course! If you're playing 10 shows a week even then a set of bass guitar strings will last a while. I'm sure when he felt he had to change his strings he had no problem getting the money to do so. Anyway, just trying to make conversation I find these things about Jaco interesting. Even if it's just about how often he did or didn't change his strings.
By the way, exactly what very important things have you done for the Jaco community? And what is the Jaco community and how do I join?

Sounds like Jaco's Glory days were well past him by the time this was recorded , slightly sad to hear this , but no one can deny Jaco's place in Music History.
