Mitch was the only reason the Kings were making any noise in the 90’s, but that title of best Kings player definitely belongs to Webber. D-Fox is certainly making his case soon too now…
It was impresive for a shooting guard to have such a great game againts this Sonics. Not only were they a great defensive team, but individually, the backcourt had a Payton who was a very prowd defender and just one of the best defensive guards ever, Hawkins was darn good on defense too. And of the bench they had Mcmillan and Wingate, another duo of great defensive veteran guards. And this was in the playoffs, which makes it even more impresive.
The rock had no legs at this point of his career, he was crafty as hell and an offensive grinder, great to see a guy get his on smarts and not just athletic ability.
man i sure do miss mitch richmond it made me feel so good to here michael jordan say that mitch was his fav guard to play against i was jus 13 and remeber my older brother hating on mitch and then mike said what he said man i still have the basketball card of that game
As I recall, RIchmond had a hot night shooting, then the Sonics woke up and blasted the Kings 2 games in a row IN Sacramento to knock them out of the playoffs
@@hmhm856 yeah I think this was the only first round series in during that time that didn’t have to get pushed to a 5th game. The same thing continued into the post-Kemp/Vin Baker era as well.
This is just bizarre. Am I watching the Thunder play the Kings? The Sonics play the Sonics? No, I'm watching the Seattle Sonics play the Sacramento Kings. Relocation hurts everyone. I'll be damned if I ever see Mitch Richmond's or Chris Webber's number in the rafters in Seattle.
@Nebel64 Also in the same season where the defending champs beat the Sonics in 6 in the finals. I don't know why but i'm pretty sure the Bulls could have upset the powerhouse known as the Kings in the finals. I know they won like 39 games that year but I still think the Bulls could have taken them. I am also jealous that I didn't think of KarlMalowned as a username.
I wouldn't say he lost his legacy to MJ, he played in the Western Conference so you can blame Barkley,Olajuwon, Malone etc. for not making it easier for those lesser western conf. teams to make the postseason and capture some spotlight(but from a SG standpoint i understand what you mean,Most would say after Jordan players like Drexler,Reggie Miller, even Steve Smith were better SG's when in reality Richmond was probably 3rd behind MJ, and Drexler during that era)
Their easiest series in general was against the Rockets who didn't have a PF, they were defintely always vulnerable in the playoffs because their uptempo style gets slowed down.
@@ChrisM07 If they didn't choke against the Nuggets and the Lakers in the first rounds, they could have stopped Houston from winning two titles. They owned the Rockets
@@fuckthechinesevirus9462 When the Rockets had Thorpe no they didn't it's about matchups. There's a reason the first time with Rudy T coaching it went to a deciding last game when the Rockets had him and they didn't win a single game against the Sonics without him, with a PF Dream didn't have to leave the paint as often. The Sonics averaged 42% shooting overall the first 2 seasons the Rockets were a contending team, the lowest of all the West teams. They averaged close to 48% shooting when the Rockets were overmatched in that position that's a pretty big difference if you ask me.
@dhide14 They didn't blast the Kings in Sac. I was at both games! The Kings had the lead until late in the 4th quarter in gm 3, when Sam Perkins and Frank Brickowski went on a 3 pt shooting spree with the help of GP. The Kings played better than the Sonics for 45 of the 48 mins. They did get blasted in Gm 4, but only because Mitch got hurt in the 1st quarter with an ankle injury and didn't return.
we do exist because of GAY BENNETT AND HIS BUTT BUDDY THAT BUGEYED JEW LAWYER FUCK JEW STERN...OR MJs butt buddy thats why we dont have a team....BRO!!!!!
MJ should have challenged himself by playing in the might Western Conference after coming out of retirement. I don't think he would've dominated nite in, nite out! Too many very good SG's in the West then...mid to late 90's.
I don't know man....if he was playing for Sacramento today then Kobe would have been making him lose his legacy for the past 10 years haha. It would be even worse for him because he'd be playing in the same conference as Kobe and would pretty much never even make the all star team
@brian05fubu He was a great player in his prime especailly his days with Golden State and those Run TMC days, not so mush with the Wizards or Lakers, but even the most loyalist of fans have to agree that it was just a bit too much when he was called the Michael Jordan of the West.
Greatest player to ever put on a Kings jersey. It ain't even close.

most underrated player in NBA history
Rom K I'm 5 years late but I agree and posted this to a post saying Nash was most underrated ...Jordan himself said mitch was his best defender

Jumper smooth as butter
The greatest moment of 1986-1998 pre-Webber Kings basketball.
Rattle Seattle baby! I still remember the signs people put on their front lawns back then
@AsSeenOnTV typical kings fashion
Alex Tafoya 😂😂😂😂😂

JUST MET HIM IN PERSON AT LA VALLEY COLLEGE, COOL DUDE.
one of my all time favorites
@brian05fubu Thankfully Mitch got him a ring with the 2001-2002 Lakers team. Guy was consistant for so many years and very underrated.
if ur a sacramento fan, his legacy is still big!
I remember that day it was a Saturday as I lived in Ripley, West Virginia at the time. I was pulling for the Kings
i remember watching this game.
Do you have the highlights from the Sacramento kings against the Warriors I believe 3-9-96 where Richmond banks in the game winning 3ptr?
My favorite SG. Never had enough attention due to MJ publicity, but that was all media bullshit, not the real picture. Mitch was a killer!!!

I traded Eddie Jones for him in 97

Great ! 37points
SOOOOOOOOOOO underated
Mitch was and amazing player.... Thankfully the Sonics came back and won this series...
Seattle fans were shaking in their boots after this loss after their previous 2 seasons which they were upset in the 1st round!
And a collective “here we go again” came over Seattle.
Sonics always had trouble in the first round during the Payton-Kemp era when they were the favorities, even in the series they won.

Hopefully they go back to the 80s green and yellow with the city logo instead of this dirty yellow and adding red color scheme.
