Thank you so much for your work and videos. I was really a die hard NBA fan in the 90's.. Even though our Knicks had really tragic heart breaking moments.. it's still great to reminisce on those times.
As always, thanks for sharing. Playoff ouster could mean something big to happen come offseason back then -- which nowadays a ho-hum thing, something to expect, and won't much a surprise. And considering the precious, best opportunities the Suns had in 1994 and 1995, can't blame Sir Charles for the disappointment though he played a huge part on those setbacks.
@TheSands83 True. But he still would've been a better fit for the Suns in 96 as a 6th man than John Hot Rod Williams was as a power forward/center. Phoenix should've just drafted some center in the 2nd round to complete their team. You don't sacrifice what you do well just to have a defensive answer for a playoff nemesis like Olajuwon.
The Suns were just a mere shell of the team in 1993. If they met in the 1995 WCF, it would have been something special as both clubs have stacked up their teams.
Spurs would've won in 7. Dennis Rodman's defense matches up much better versus Barkley than Olajuwon, while DRob would just be free to patrol the paint.
@@michaelallen8112 a lot had changed since then. Phoenix was the clear favorite in the 1993 series while San Antonio was the clear favorite in 1996. 1995 would've been an even toss-up had they met that year, definitely one you look back it and think about what could've been.
I agree. I also think the Sonics-Rockets, Sonics-Suns, Sonics-Spurs playoff matchups in 94 & 95 woulda been something else. Too bad the Sonics choked those years smh
@@Classicbasketballdvds after the classic 7 game WCF battle in 1993 it would've been cool to see the Sonics and Suns run it back in 1994 had they not went out early after each blowing a 2-0 lead.
For one thing, the suns had a bad coaching, bad coaching,we got Charles Barkley there about 5 minutes late,so what,it ain't no time to teaching nobody no lesson?
Phoenix was only one of 10 teams, along with the Knicks, Heat, Magic, Raptors, Pacers to beat the 72-10 Bulls in Phoenix. I think the Spurs were #3 seat, and the Suns #6. With Sonics #1, Jazz #2, Rockets #4? Lakers#5. Barkley was still really good. He had a very good season next year in Houston. The Spurs were not only lucky, but also smart by getting Tim Duncan next year in the draft by completely tanking the season on purpose, something the Knicks won't ever do with our current ownership, where making the playoffs is more important than winning the Championship
@@VMakNYC Agreeable except on some points: - 1996-97 season is a forgettable one for San Antonio. They are almost undermanned and David Robinson only played 6 games due to various injuries while the regular starting 5 shuffled between active and inactive for their own injuries. The alleged tanking is fallacious because the remaining healthy lineup still have decent games including upsetting the league-leading Utah Jazz. - And let's say the Spurs "tanked" that season, there's no guarantee they will clinch the top pick to land Tim Duncan. In fact, come Draft Lottery, the Celtics had two or three lottery balls for a higher chance having the first pick. San Antonio had only one, and that's good enough to hit the jackpot. - As for the Knicks, they are notorious for giving huge contracts and being the "dumpster" of other teams' salary cap-eating contracts, in early 2000s in particular. But then, how I wish the Knicks faced the Bulls in 1997 Playoffs if not for the Knicks-Heat melee.

Barkley’s PHX finale
Everything was beautiful in that era. 😢

Phoenix should have never traded Marjerle
He wasn’t the same guy anymore in 96. Still a good player but he wasn’t all star caliber guy anymore.,
@@TheSands83 he was still good in Miami

Finley and Person were better. Barkley and KJ were just running out of seasons.
Should have kept it at...
KJ
Ainge
Majerle
Barkley
Miller
for as long as humanly possible

From this point on the Spurs and Suns would go on to meet 7 more times in the playoffs with San Antonio going 5-2
Spurs break a six game playoff losing streak in Phoenix
For Charles Barkley in Phoenix, that is no next year,a Suns loss to the spurs,it's will be Phoenix earliest playoff exit in 21 years
This series happened a year too late, would've been a great battle had they met in 1995.
They already met in 1993

Houston spoiled it all, and good for them.

David Robinson won this matchup in scoring, rebounding, and efficiency.

Barkley went back to the Air Max Strong?
I had no idea that Phoenix had made the playoffs that 1996 season. Unless it just slipped my mind.

Barkley get freezed in 2nd half
