Great explanations. Very detailed work. For the through wire I use a long drill & drill through halfway & then do the other end. Your idea is good too .

    HI, Allan.
I just discovered your popper series and watched this first one. I'm an amateur lure-maker, lifelong saltwater fisherman, and big surface-lure fan, so it's right up my alley. Some viewers may criticize you for what they see as an AGONIZING amount of detail and explanation, but even though I don't need it, BEGINNERS DO! You have done them a great service, and I wish there were a way to get the word out to all those who dream of making saltwater lures on a lathe..
The one thing that struck me as odd about this EXCELLENT part 1 is that you don't mention what kind of glue you use to temporarily laminate the clear pine before turning it. This strikes me as critical: It has to be strong enough to keep the stock together on the lathe, BUT it also has to be "weak" enough to allow the pieces to be readily separated after the lure is shaped.
I, too, use temporarily laminated wood (Home Depot poplar) for my baits, and I have settled on strips of a high-quality two-sided shop tape, which is clean, quick, and effective. Are you using an all-purpose "white glue" like Elmers? I can't tell from the video but think viewers will need this information right off the bat.
    Best,
    Chris

Hi Chris. Thank you for your comments. I use Elmer's ProBond Max for all my wood gluing. It is rated ANSI Type 1 Waterproof and it's available at Home Depot! I just got back from a long distance fishing trip. I caught 2 Wahoo with my lures. The biggest was 50 lbs.. Both lures I used look very chewed on, which is great. The 2 layers of 2 part epoxy coatings took a real beating!
