Taylor adjusts action by adjusting the truss rod so the neck is straight, then they place angle shims under the neck to get their spec height at the 12th fret. They DO NOT sand the bridge saddle.

This video is informative and helpful, but unfortunately, I think you have to know more about the brand of your guitar before doing any adjustment. If your from Philippines, the distributor of Taylor Guitars is RJ Guitar Center and they also sell Shims for Taylor Guitars. Taylor doesn’t recommend sanding the bridge saddle even if the action is too high, instead you have to adjust it by replacing the shims in pairs.✌🏻

I thought Taylor’s had bolt on necks and the manufacturer recommends and offers shims to add the neck to change the neck angle so lowering the saddle is never done or bedded.
Am I wrong or why are people lowering the saddle on Taylor’s when you can reset the neck angle in a minute with Taylor shims. I need mine done and was going to do it myself but prefer to not go down the road of lowering the fallen which is not the primary problem.
    Thanks

Yes you are right, this guitar also has rod inside the neck where it can be set and get the standard action.
However, in some cases like in this video, I already adjusted the rod and it was almost straight but the action was still out of range. The only thing I can do is to shave the saddle to get the action height within the range.

@@ARTaudio440 he wasn't talking about the truss rod. Every acoustic guitar has an adjustable truss rode inside the neck, but what he meant was a neck reset meaning that you just unscrew the whole neck and put a shim on the place where the neck is mounted, thus you get a lower action and don't lose the natural tone of the acoustic guitar which almost always happens as you sand the undersaddle down

Taylor do offer that.. their necks have two shims that are required.. and they only let their techs have the shims.. you can get it done for free if your Taylor is still under warranty or you keep it in good shape.. meaning the body and neck aren’t warped from temp or humidity..
Had mine done about a year or two ago..
But ended up paying for a fret level at the same time.. so they get the extra money out of you

Never shave a Taylor guitar saddle. It needs a neck angle adjustment.

I had to shave my saddle down so far that I am concerned my high E string saddle is too low. I’m trying to get 6/64 on low e and 4/64 on high e, but may need to accept it 1/64 higher than that in both sides. Any suggestions? I read that the saddle shouldn’t be less than 1/8” above the bridge?

You have to add a shim under the saddle to raise the saddle up. You can use sand paper.

Taylor has the NT neck system to lower string height call Taylor get different shims at first they would not let anybody have the shims unless they were authorized dealer but now they have changed that there's when you file saddle you lessen the brake angle which sucks tone Taylor does not recommend ever filing the saddle

My question is, what if no installed shim on that neck and the action is out of range or too high? What I understand on shim is to add to get the neck move higher if it is out of specs like low action.

    • @ARTaudio440
      @ARTaudio440  8 місяців тому

Sorry, adding shim to the neck is to get the action lowered, if I can get a chance I will contact the owner of this guitar in the video and will share the details here.

@@ARTaudio440 on my taylor if you take the shims slap out from under the neck he strings will be laying on the neck. The very first taylors had set necks no bolt on and no shims buf it would have to be really old if thats the case there should be 2 bolts holding it on one haz a seal over it(a sticker over it if it hasnt been taken off before.call taylor thdy will az hou a few measurements and send hou ghd corect shims when you grind down the saddle it decreases the downward pressure where the strings go through the pinholes decreasing vibration making the guitar not as loud

Never ever do that to a Taylor. Never! The neck js bolted in a way that you adjust the acton by making an easy neck reset, using shims thhat you get from Taylor. The neck is design this way by Taylor. It is well explained on Taylor's web site.
