Seems like everyone is in agreement with this being a great process. I'm going to give it a shot. I get some buzzing from my G string on my Strat when playing certain songs. I'm not sure why though. When I just pluck the string it doesnt buzz so the only thing I can think of is it may be how aggressive I hit the string when playing the song at that point or maybe the way I fret it when coming off the note prior. Anyway I'll definitely give this a shot, it can't hurt.
Update: I went ahead and did this with my strat that the "G" string was periodically buzzing on certain songs and it eliminated the buzzing completely! I was pretty happy that I got that resolved so easily. So there you have it, follow this trick and you can possibly eliminate any buzzing issues you may be experiencing. Thank you for posting this video, it helped a great deal!

Hello all, as Ronnie said the neck was slightly bowed, with the wider gap under the 12th fret. I fixed it that night by adjusting the truss rod.
The random buzzings where caused by a string slightly touching the frets on certain notes. I fixed it with the help of a technician who grinded the frets, bringing all the frets to the same height.
I hope I've been clear enough and I'll help somebody 🙂🤞

Actually, this really is the craziest method to set-up the action on any guitar. I did set-up an about 2mm (below 5/64") low action on a Strat in 2 minutes: no buzz at all all along the 22-frets (painted) maple fretboard (0.0095 - 0.044 strings) and strings follow the radius very, very precisely. Strings are low and soft and you can bend easily. The most difficult step of this procedure is to attach the tape in the best way to hold the card in place...ahahah! :) Thank you, Gale: a blast of a trick!

The most important part was skipped to get good action, he missed the fret job. Set the neck completely flat by adjusting the truss rod with no strings on, get a fret leveling tool from Stew Mac. Masking tape all the fret wood, but leave the frets showing. Black magic marker all the frets, and level them until the last black mark is gone. Dont overdo it. Now you will need a diamond fret crowning tool and crown them all. Next use 600 sandpaper dragging it flat across all the frets evenly, not sideways, but the legnth of the fretboard at a brisk speed.working your way to 1200, 1500, 2000 grit. Next you can buff the frets to a mirror finish with fine automotive compound. String up the guitar and set the bow at .007-..010 at the 12th fret, tuned up.Then you are ready to set the string slots in the nut, then the action/intonation.

I absolutely agree. Been shopping at this location for over 20 years and love the guys there. They have plenty of my hard earned dollars, trust me. The frustration I had, was that it was a NEW guitar and I was told that it would come "set-up". They have new management, a new look (renovated store) and apparently new "policies". I don't think I've ever bought a NEW guitar that came requiring a ($60) set up, but maybe Chuck Surack and his Sweetwater gang (in my case Robert Koch) have spoiled me. That said, again, I agree with you. Payment for "services" rendered is what makes the world go around. I just thought this was a cool video and because I actually used it to fix my issue, I figured I'd tell the story on why I was needing the help. It was a first time for me (if I'm being honest) and his method worked well. I'm no guitar tech by any means, so I was glad to find the solution with this video. Rock on Churles! Godspeed...🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

Didn't work for me at all. After doing this, the string was completely pressed against the neck whenever I tried to pick while pressing down the 12th fret, making no noise.
      Is my neck too curved?
It doesn't seem that bad with the regular test of pressing down the string.

Good tip, never did it that way, usually I just fret and listen.
Just checked my action on one guitar in playing position with a creditcard as shown in the clip, got the same action across my string with exeption for the 3 low E and A, I prefer to have them a tiny bit higher.
I probably just continue to adjust by ear though, but might use a credit card for the starting point next time I want to adjust action on a guitar.

As long as your fret board has been adjusted and straight thus will work great.
I do a full setup on all of my guitars no matter if it is new or used.
Cause a lot of times a new one isn’t adjusted by the shop before you bring it home lol.
Can’t really trust them to do it unless you force them to before you pick it up, or you will for sure be bringing it back to get done.
