The best two opening l moves are "12+35=47" and "90/6 - 7=8". These two moves give you EVERY DIGIT 0-9, three out of the four math operations (+,-,/) and the location of the equals sign (the "=" is in the third from the right if it's not in either of the final two right positions).

My opening is 9×6/3=18. Half the numbers and half the operators. Since using this I have 37 in 2, 237 in 3 and averaging 3.25 after 400 games.
