You can see the difference physically in Holyfield from the first fight and this one. He also learned how to settle down on his punches. His shots were actually moving Qawi back this time. From Qawi’s expression, you could tell he was in there with a different fighter this time.
It was clear from the first round that Qawi was noticing the increased power of Holy. He backed up quite of bit in this fight while in the first fight hardly at all.
Outside of Buster Douglas, this was Holyfield's biggest win. Many have forgotten how shocking it was that he kayoed Qawi, who had never been knocked down or out. His most devastating performance by far.
You mean his biggest win before Bowe II?? Because whilst this was an impressive performance, you have to take into account Qawis age he was 34 here. Also, he went on to beat Tyson after this.
@@jakeyb25 34 is not old, dude. Late twenties and early thirties is usually when you have the most potential at reaching your peak level. 34 is probably the around the end of most people’s peak. But still not old at all. If you’ve received a lot of punishment, of course it can shorten it quite a bit. But there’s more then a few heavyweights that have had good years in their late thirties.
Man, Qawi aged between the first fight and the rematch. He was clearly not in shape and just wanted to get it over with. He stayed down because he had no desire to fight anymore. Sad to see a champ like him go out like this. Well, he did it to Saad Muhammad. What goes around comes around.
@@jdvlanka265 Quawi were in some wars. Crawford not really. If he maintains his desire and training I dont think 34 would affect him as badly. I think he could go for a good few more years beyond 34. But yeah, time is running out fast.
I will tell you guys something about this dude Qawi. He was a real tough guy from what is still a very, very tough city in New Jersey called Camden. It is legendary for how tough it is. No jobs, much drug dealing and until recently, the murder capital of the state and high in the nation. Qawi was a street fighter in THAT city! He had never boxed in a gym before. While doing 5 years for armed robbery, he started sparring with light heavy contender, James Scott. With NO amateur fights, Qawi turned pro as a 5'6 light heavy! Later he moved up to heavy and while past his prime, was beating George Foreman until he got winded and was KOd. One of the baddest men in boxing history.
The idea that Vander looks juiced is ridiculous! That does not mean that he wasn't, but the idea that his look says steroids is bull shit. Qawi was in a couple of fights that just didn't seem to be on the up and up to me, and this was one of them. The other fight was his fight against Michael Spinks. Qawi was a brutal, punishing, non-stop punching machine who could take an enormous amount of punishment and still keep coming at you while throwing a lot of damaging punches himself. In the 2nd Holyfield fight he didn't take anywhere near the punishment he took in the first fight, and yet he ended up getting TKOed. In the Spinks fight he barely threw any punches. It's almost like the powers that ran boxing back then set up both of these fights to be fixed. Qawi losing to Holyfield is not that surprising because Holyfield was that good, but getting KOed by him was surprising. The way Qawi fought against Spinks it almost looked obvious to me that the fight was fixed. There's no way Spinks was beating Qawi if Qawi fought like he normally did. There's no way Spinks would've been able to deal with the onslaught...
Holy landed a couple of counter and missed a couple from 4:00-5:01, he was countering everything that Qawi threw specifically with his jab, meaning because of Qawi`s shorter reach he couldn`t get out range before Holy countered wit the jab.
