The fight before Buster Douglas. The Real Deal takes on tough Seamus McDonagh in Atlantic City. #therealdeal #evanderholyfield #boxing #SeamusMcDonagh #heavyweightboxing
My wife and I just met Seamus last night in San Francisco. Nice guy, and funny too! 😃 We talked about boxing for a little while and he brought up this fight. I’m glad I got the chance to meet him and hear his story.
Great fight! He caught Holyfield with some solid shots. I met Seamus in sanfrancisco back in 05 he's a real cool guy he offered to be my trainer, he looked in good shape like he could still be boxing
Seamus McDonagh Remember this fight so well, it was a few days before Tyson vs Tillman and was televised on that broadcast. . . . I swear that stiff arm jab in the 3rd buckled Holyfield's legs. How did you rate Holyfield's power and overall strength Seamus ?
Hello bigdaddy4069, Evander was in great shape that night. I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the event and was so off balance in the first round that it didn't take much to put me down. I regained composure and settled down in the 2nd round and did well in the 3rd but I tried to take him out in the 4th and got caught. It would have been a less exciting fight but I probably would have gone the distance if I'd just continued to make him miss and not try to take him out. I hurt him a few times and he admitted that in the press conference after the fight. More than anything, I was not prepared mentally and that is treacherous in a fight of that magnitude. To specifically answer your question, power comes with speed and timing and Evander had both. Thank you for the great question. Now please answer this question- Can a referee stop a fight at the count of eight if the fallen fighter is on their feet?
Seamus McDonagh at the referee's discretion of course and I see Larry Hazzard got up on the apron too but this was a little early, sure.I'm an ex fighter myself and coach my home town now.
My last fight I fought a guy 20lbs heavier & I out landed him 30-1 but that one dropped me. I got up at 3 but I wobbled & the ref stopped it ~_^ man I was pissed because that shot woke me up & I saw what 2 do & how to win the fight but I didn't get the chance... Let's hope that the big maypac fight coming up don't got controversy
He tried his ass off though and put on a decent show.. Think of how many big fights that people paid to see and expected to be great wars and didn't even go one round, like Tyson vs Spinks..
I waited fir him twice to move around in the gum he never showed I was ready to do a Larry Holmes on his Irish shut or a phillydelpia paint jab or paint job not a blow job what a ardent whole
I could have beat him and I never eNter to be a pro the colloddal t beast a rank ameater .i did MIT ever get wobbled or knocked dine well im mostly Italian lime Marciano and caners they went dine mot me though people broke therebhands only chin and 2 by fours or three s broke over my mouth i ne r r list no teeth or hot cut the board split in half my doctor used family doctor ad a child said I was gonna grow IP to be made if iron I wAd bread that way by my Italian grandma shebseen Joe liquid fight and dpsru and she knew who camera was well yea shevwas a pure blooded Italian lady
If holyfueld came in thenring clean no rounds and didn't foul I think I could stay with him hes a Georgian and all he got is quickness duck e m hes ordi ary
Talk about blown-up cruiserweights. People said that about Holyfield, but he's rag-dolling McDonagh. Seamus didn't have the body or the chin to be a heavyweight.
Seamus never should have been in there. He wasn't a heavyweight. He wasn't in Holyfield's league or experience level. Promoters at the time just wanted a great white hope like a Rocky movie. Showed how tough he was by getting up though. He even landed a few shots along the way.
Evander always played nice against weaker opponents, but went hard against tougher aggressive opponents. This together with him not being a knockout puncher is why he didn’t have highlight reels like Tyson. Most people are judging fighters based on domination and highlights, but Evander would be a tough opponent against anyone. Even if he looked like he just won by points against who would be knocked out by Tyson in the first round. Styles make fights. People complain about Evander fighting Tyson after Mikes prime. One could easily argue Evander was past his prime as well, and he was older than Tyson
Imagine what McDonagh could have achieved if he trained under Cus and had a young Mike Tyson as his training partner. Does anybody know why he turned down the offer?
The holyfield that fought tyson looked a least a stone of muscle heavier with a chin of granite. Alot of fights holyfield was in pre-tyson he looked like he could be stopped just as much as looking like he was on top.
Yes, Evander is a known drug cheat. My evidence is that his head doubled in size from when he was young to after the years of drugging. While Tyson was snorting cocaine, Evander was using PED'S. No one gains that size naturally.
Holyfield would pack up with weights in his shoes and pockets for the weigh in’s during this time... he was 200lbs max at this point.... just look at the size of him when he fought Tyson at 218lbs
Jesse Stevenson Really, I didn't think so.. I used to train in Gleasons back in 1988 when I was a teenager in training for the 1988 Golden Gloves and I used to see Seamus training there all the time and he seemed like a humble guy he was very friendly
Jesse Stevenson What??? How did Seamus have a bad attitude? Seamus is the nicest guy in the world, and ANYBODY that is talking shit would never have the balls to climb in that ring with Evander Holyfield.
No he wasnt on the same level as Holyfield, but I respect ANY man who gets in the ring. Most of us (like me) are arm chairs, we love boxing from a safe distance. Wish I had the balls to get in the ring. Mismatches are often pointless ut it is intresting, to see the diffrent levels of boxing. Holyfield at this point was one of the very best fighters in the world. Better than Mike Tyson, as good, maybe??? better than Lennox Lewis?? Mike Tyson is my faveorite boxer ever and always will be, but I know in my heart he could never beat Holyfield.
I've never been aware of this fight. Just looking at McDonagh, it looks like Holyfield will hit him like a heavy bag. 4 rounds and three knockdowns later, the Irishman is KO'd. What a mismatch. McDonagh was nothing but an imported club fighter who Holyfield toyed with.
Yeah, there is evidence of Evander getting mail sent directly to himself with a slightly altered name. Mike Tyson was the same size at 18 he was at 30. When they asked Evander back then how he got so big he said, " I just growed late." Well, how many people grow that much it their 20's? Also, his head doubled in size, just like Barry Bonds, who used a lot of good steroids.
Lionel Witherspoon You'd never say that to Seamus' face, and if you did he's such an amazing man he'd probably just give you a big hug and ask you what's bothering you in your life to say that. Hes a true warrior and gentle man.
Not a nice thing to say Mr.witherspoon but says more about you than Seamus. He was beaten by one of modern greats of boxing and gave the best that he could so no shame for Seamus. I met him recently and what a wonderful human being.
Mcdonagh went in and fought ! But he was not extending his punches from the outside ! He should have made it a inside fight even tho evander was good on the inside too.
Yes sure Ireland love there losers it's a shame they have no winners so they cant tell the difference anyway they lost to the English without even putting up a fight they just surrendered like cowards
I asked him if he fought Holyfield and he said indignantly ..."No" my friend said "maybe he didn't remember" He wife couldn't believe the way he was acting....
i think this fight was after Tyson lost. Holy had been scheduled to fight Tyson on this date and Douglas in the fall so not wanted to remain inactive he fought this bum
Mate, let's just keep it sane and on the level here. Seamus was embarrassingly inept. He looked like Some poor sod they just pulled out of pub on Friday night. He really did. He has absolutely zero boxing talent or acumen to boast of along with horrible balance. He was flopping about all over the ring and every significant punch by Holyfield hurt him. The bulk of these comments trying to boost him up as some sort of tough Jake Lamotta tough man, is simply silly and ridiculous. Tough is Joe Frazier, George Chuvalo, Dwight Quai, Gennady Golovkin etc.... fighters who could take a hit and still make adjustments and dominate through sheer will and legitimate talent. Lets not make this into something it obviously isn't. There was not going to be any fantasy "Rocky" ending in the reality that was Holyfield in this stage of his career.
This is Tyson vs McNeally...Holyfield version. All respect to the Irish though! The Irish are tough! Much difference between boxing and bar fighting! Lol
Evander really was the business
Top top fighter mate. Loved him hardly in a dull fight.
My wife and I just met Seamus last night in San Francisco. Nice guy, and funny too! 😃 We talked about boxing for a little while and he brought up this fight. I’m glad I got the chance to meet him and hear his story.
Shut out to the irish guy, just meet him in San Francisco. Such a nice guy.
Did he admit to being in this fight?
He must be a busy guy in San Francisco. You're like the 4th person in the comment that said they saw or met him in San Francisco.
How is this my first time seeing this??? That’s one of the most brutal knockouts of all time! Props to Seamus beating the count - tough son of gun.

Met Seamus randomly the other day, nice guy, i'm glad i checked out his fight with Holyfield.
What a beautiful left hook from Evander Holyfield. That was a thing of beauty.
Great fight! He caught Holyfield with some solid shots. I met Seamus in sanfrancisco back in 05 he's a real cool guy he offered to be my trainer, he looked in good shape like he could still be boxing
Thanks Tye.

This is Rocky and Apollo Creed for Real.
Seamus is a great person. I had the pleasure of working with him in a show in San Francisco later on after he retired.
Great fight heart of a champion on Seamus
not much
Holy field has a big heart, he could have hurt him earlier... Total class act...
Seamus is a class act. Great guy. Now he’s an entrepreneur in San Francisco!
Tien Wong Is that right? That’s awesome.
Now THAT was a fight!
You could say that about all of Evanders fights! 😅
That first round was the maddest ive seen kinda embarrassing for mcdonagh
Tough man was Seamus
@@SomeOldBoxingBouts aye fair play to him knew he wasnt going the distance so came out swinging
Amazing as Seamus never even wanted to be a boxer.
@Brian p Larry Holmes had one pop out against Holyfield.
Holyfield a champion in character
2:29 Holyfield...........intimidating.
Mcdonagh seemed to be fighting the Marciano style.
The guys that think they are talking to the real Seamus i want to sell you a bridge
Ireland finally has an ethnic Irish HW champion.
the face first attack lol
Shamus is pretty damn good though,he wasn't runnin
He stood and slugged it out with Holyfield.............brave man, bad idea.
This guy has no business being in the ring with the God Of War Holyfeild.
It was good for a laugh.
He tried his ass off though and put on a decent show.. Think of how many big fights that people paid to see and expected to be great wars and didn't even go one round, like Tyson vs Spinks..
@@heavylift9582 Anybody who steps in that ring deserves respect. He's putting his life on the line, and to you, that's "good for a laugh"?
I used to have this on VHS, watched it over and over, great fight. Hope your keeping well Seamus, respect from Scotland.

Despite the racism in the comments probably the easiest fight of holy field 's career Looked like he was just working the heavy bag.
Check out Seamus speak on radio 4 "soul music" very revealing..
Talk about blown-up cruiserweights. People said that about Holyfield, but he's rag-dolling McDonagh. Seamus didn't have the body or the chin to be a heavyweight.
31 years ago today this fight happened.
Time sure does fly by.
Mcdonagh looked a lot like Joe Hipp
This geezer moving like he got on skates!!
Seems as though his boots getting ZERO grip, so enhancing ANY Holyfield punch

Some fighters too tough for their own good at times. Some promoter's unfortunately put money before the fighters health 😪
@@SomeOldBoxingBouts the kid is tough as nails. I'm glad he's ok. But knowing what we know about head and injuries now, this just felt very unsafe.
Another tough customer Mc donagh
Tyson would destroyed holyfield if they had a match in this year

Game effort by Seamus Mc Donough. RIP Trump Plaza!
Dayum..."Don't hook, with a hooker!"
I keep thinking Randy Lahey vs Evander Holyfield
Holyfield should of Penalized for his wrestling takedown.
McDonagh seems to have have some decent boxing skills. He moves his upper body well and is able to make Evander miss some of his punches.
I would be "ashamused" of my performance that night against Holyfield .
The holyfield that fought tyson looked a least a stone of muscle heavier with a chin of granite. Alot of fights holyfield was in pre-tyson he looked like he could be stopped just as much as looking like he was on top.

It is time when Holyfield boxing cruserweight
He was close to making the count
But what would be the point? He would just get more badly hurt, he wouldn't have lasted another 15 seconds, that includes the count.
