Unfortunately for us Boxing fans , this was never going to happen as Jones didn't want to fight any of them lads you mentioned , all way too dangerous . Frankie Liles , WBA SMW Champion , 93 to 98 was also in the mix and wanted to Unify with Jones , IBF but his greed , wanted 85 pc of the Purse , killed that deal . Both these guys fought 4 times as Amateurs , 2 wins each all on points but Frankie had Jones down twice in one of these contests where he received two standing 8 counts , he too was a very dangerous opponent for Jones .🥊🥊

@Thao Brewster thats not how it works, some fighters are faded at 32 while others are still on top at 38... Benn wasnt the same after mc clellan fight.. This wasnt the Benn of the early 90s but Collins may always have had his number..
Benn wasn't past it he just met a granite man in Collins who learned the hard way in America. Collins had been in with the real boxers and was just a better boxer end of story.
Collins got a laser with the right hand, busted his face as he was able to land clean. Benn was shifty on defence early but couldn’t sustain the pressure. Collins a master at the mid range/inside game, effective pivots while smothering and landing punishing short shots. Super durable, strong, very good stamina, good defence. Dangerous when he gets clipped as he comes right back with something strong. Highly impressive to tame a wildcard like Benn, a true disciplined gladiator. Not flashy but brutally effective.
The first time i saw steve he got knocked down..then he got up and knocked your man out..he"s quality..I do love nigel..i"ve seen him get off the canvas and knock some fella out as well...much respect to you both x
Nigel Benn was one of Britain’s finest ever fighters. But he fought too many fights in a short space of time. Had he taken a few months more between fights, to recover from the punishment he took in so many amazing great fights. I dare say he would’ve been more successful and beaten Steve Collins, or gotten it to points at least. His corner did do the right thing, to pull him out in this fight, but they should’ve never let him get into that situation to begin with. He was playing Russian roulette with his health and you can only go on that way for so long, before your luck runs out.
if Collins was American, british or Russian hed be remembered as a great fighter.but hes always over looked sadly.benn and eubanks were class and he beat them both twice but a lot of people couldn't put a name to his photo.
Saw Benn for the first time when he fought Watson in 89'. Think it was on a Saturday afternoon on one of the networks. Really enjoyed that fight and remember rooting for Benn because I liked his bombs away style. I continued following his fights for a few years after. I never considered him to be a great fighter though. More of a crowd pleaser like a Frank Fletcher than a really good talent. Fun to watch. Soured on him a little after this fight. It appears his camp had a plan here of going out there for a few rounds, then if things don't go their way, pull out. I understand things happened after the McClellan fight, but I don't feel the Benn camp went into this fight in an honest way.
I wish the American media would have covered european boxing back then. I was a youngster, and they covered Roy Jones career as if there simply WAS nobody to fight. I wish Jim Lampley, and them would have said "theres an Irishman that WANTS to fight JOnes"
1st fight against Eubank was very close, he was clearly knocked down in one of the early rounds but was ruled a slip for some reason. Down again in the 10th but Eubank did not go for the finish. In the rematch Collins cardio was amazing throughout the 12 rounds, Eubank had no chance. Clear wins against Benn for both fights.
Why was the fight stopped? Don't understand it. Collins was winning, but Benn had a puncher's chance. BTW, Eubank took the first fight against Collins on short notice. The second fight was a split decision. Mike McCallum beat Collins hands down, not even close. And Collins had been fighting for four years at that time.
Fergus Whelan you clearly know very little about boxing! He beat Hopkins who then went on to win a world title of Kelly Pavlik, Lacy was regarded as a mini Mike Tyson, Kessler was not a nobody! Obviously your just a bitter Irishman who doesn’t like British boxers!!!
Is it bc its 90's footage that ring looks very small,i have heard of boxers asking for different sizes rings, you'd think there would be one standard size ☘️🇮🇪
As far as ko's Go People like to see them but bringing someone out of a fight when they have nothing left to give is better than seeing someone getting killed.
Of course he should have retired after the Mc Clellan fight and maybe Eubank should have also after the 2nd Watson contest, at least we wouldn't have to listen to these excuses as to why they lost to Collins? Alan Minter and Barry Mc Guigan were both involved in fights with opponent's who lost their lives, before they won their World Crowns along with many others . I don't recall either Minter, Mc Guigan or any of their fans using those unfortunate events as an excuse for defeats that would follow.

I do know for a fact, that Benn and Eubank, ducked Mc Callum, 100%, Benn in 92, Eubank 90, and that they both didn't want a part of Collins, ever. I understand Benn wasn't the same fighter after the Gman fight but he had 3 straight, good wins after, then got beaten, fair and square by Malinga, who got his just rewards for his daylight robbery defeat to him, in 92, 3 years before the Mc Clellan fight. Collins was miles better than him in the 2 fights, if they fought a few years before then, Benn ain't KO ing him, and Collins always got stronger after slow starts, even Mc Callum can admit to this, and also refused him a rematch after their February 90 fight. Safe regards to you and family in these crazy times.

As a genuine fight fan, l always cheered for guys from Ireland or the UK v other guys, especially the US. Your right about Benn, it was sad to see him then as he was way better earlier, he and Collins are great friends, with lots of respect for each other, they both don't like Eubank, and Collins has no respect for him. What a vicious fight, not many could withstand that from Benn,
just born that way so honest why we love steve....to me he is the best
If Benn had gone one more round he'll be on the floor from exhaustion.
He looked absolutely shattered.
Nigel benn : "I can't box , I could never box...
my son conor?,,, he can box !"
his body movement is too exagerated it has to take the energy slip a punch his rag doll movement was simply wasteful and was still getting hit twice for 1 he lands
That’ll be fatigue from the steroids.
I ❤️ benn but I remember thinking he should have never taken the Collins fights , the juice wasn’t there anymore , but 💴 was needed for his family & future like many of us . Legend
Top top refeering and authority in talks with them both and warning Collins continually. Very apty spotted head use.
Old paddy was too tough 💪🍀🇮🇪
Again ...
Very true. Collins was hard as nails. 🥊
brick wall word ☘️🙏🏽
So why not fight calzaghe then ?
@@jasonlangfield7488 why would he fight him? He was retired ffs, not to mention an older fighter?
The commentator praises the referee for being "very clear in deducting a point for use of the head" and then goes on to say (in the following round) that it was deducted for a low blow.
Collins have proven all the commentators WRONG He is a very brave honest n hard fighter n he has beaten the best 2 TWICE accept it Collins bashes He is the Best
Champ
Nigel just knows when to quit for his family. Respect
Ehm, no he doesn't, watch the interview ringside after benn vs Collins I, he literally said he would quit for his fiance and dad, and that was after his earlier retirement announcement
Benn was past it here, Collins was a hard man to beat, iron chin, great cardio, could go all day, awkward chopping punches, underrated boxer..
He was the same age as Collins far from past his best , lost to a better fighter simple .
@Thao Brewster thats not how it works, some fighters are faded at 32 while others are still on top at 38...
Benn wasnt the same after mc clellan fight..
This wasnt the Benn of the early 90s but Collins may always have had his number..
@@rudatheboy Benn was clearly shot after the McLellan fight. Even the man who took his title, Sugarboy Malinga observed that before their fight.
Benn wasn't past it he just met a granite man in Collins who learned the hard way in America. Collins had been in with the real boxers and was just a better boxer end of story.
England people always say they are past there best when the lose 🙄 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Calzaghe was the man, none wanted a slap off him.
He punched harder back in those days too, before his hand trouble.
Collins the best wrestler ever , he could make any fight look boring 😢
As an Irishman, I’d give 5 Conor McGregors for another Steve Collins
Not many people know that Collins fought up to heavyweight as an amateur, he was massive and strong for super middle
No he didn't
Yes he did, he could have gone up to light heavy and dominated easily. He always struggled to compete at the middle and super middle weight limits.
if Collins was American, british or Russian hed be remembered as a great fighter.but hes always over looked sadly.benn and eubanks were class and he beat them both twice but a lot of people couldn't put a name to his photo.
Because of the IRA. They tarnish many a success from Ireland.
Got to like Benn but Collins was hard as nails. Celtic warrior indeed
What a great fighter Steve was. The only man to beat Eubank and Benn, and he did it twice.
Any fighter that fakes being passed out to avoid a drug test has to be considered a massive cheat
I don’t think it’s fair to say he was faking after the war with McClellan. It was brutal.
McClellan was an unbelievably hard puncher.
Calzaghi v Collins would have been a fight so it would
Saw Benn for the first time when he fought Watson in 89'.
Well done Stevo ☘️
Just might have been better if these 2 could have met 5 yrs earlier.
Never the same fighter after Gerald Machelen
He bc he has brain injured that why
Benn shouldve retired after mcclellen. He was never the same
Gosh that was when men used to fight 🎉🧠💪🙋♂️💚.🙏
I wish the American media would have covered european boxing back then. I was a youngster, and they covered Roy Jones career as if there simply WAS nobody to fight. I wish Jim Lampley, and them would have said "theres an Irishman that WANTS to fight JOnes"
The US TV had barely any interest for UK boxing in the 90’s.
Most of them didn’t even rate Lennox Lewis!
Roy Jones didnt want any part of Steve Collins.
Steve Collins was a very hard man but didn’t want any part of Joe Calzaghe.
Agreed. Joe was one of the best ever. You dont go 46-0 and not be@@rmzxr4395
It's a difficult call to make about whether the corner pulled him out too early. They were doing their job in protecting their fighter from himself.
Steve Collins is in the Hagler and Hearns class of middleweights. The very top.
hahahaha
He beat good boxers passed their prime..
So did Joe Calizage
Robin Reid certainly didnt want any part of getting in the ring with collins. cant really blame him either
Legends Two Warriors
Steve collins reminds me of micky ward, pure determination and heart and skill
Both were great fighters but the combination of their styles was a lot of clinching and missing and consequently both their bouts are unenjoyable.
He could never beat Collins at any point.
Collins vs Watson who wins?
those seats @ 8:59 must have been 50p they're all of 3 miles away from the ring.
Steve Collins don't get the respect he deserves
He is very tough fighter
👊🇹🇿🇬🇧🏴
He's white?
Benn quit before he got ko'd .collins was too tough for them English boys
Dodged the welsh boy though didn’t he!!!
@@richcastle6796 the junkie ?
Fergus Whelan I would call him a junkie!!! Took a bit of coke for god sake!
@@richcastle6796 he was never really drug tested during his career god knows what he was on .done ok beating nobodies except the overrated yank
Benn hit Collins with everything he had in the first 3 rounds and couldn't put him away after that there was only one outcome.
Benn is a lot smaller
3:15 ish Liam with Patsy Kensit in ringside seats. Misery Liam here.
Is it bc its 90's footage that ring looks very small,i have heard of boxers asking for different sizes rings, you'd think there would be one standard size ☘️🇮🇪
Benn was my favourite English fighter of that time but Collins was a rock and always a better fighter always going to beat Benn.
Benn put in a savage preformance, not many would lasted this !!
Господи помилуй! Суеты много, промахов! Желания много, интеллекта мало! Но, не скучно! Спасибо!
A prime Collins, eubank, and Benn, against a prime cannello alverez. What great fights they would have been.
As far as ko's Go People like to see them but bringing someone out of a fight when they have nothing left to give is better than seeing someone getting killed.
Benn should have retired after the McClellan fight.
@@francishegarty8087 oh come on clearly he was referring to the fact that the mcclellan fight ruined Benn, watch the first Collins Benn fight i remember watching it live and could see Benn was shot, not taking anything away from Collins at all he was a great fighter
@@keithshayler1972 Hi Keith, I get what you mean and understand you fully and fair play to you for saying that Collins was good.
Francis Hegarty even Hagler didn fancy McCallum and i don’t blame them,I loved that era in the 90s and I loved Collins as well and agree that no one was stopping Collins.it was just painful watching Benn afterwards he was a shell.Eubank wasn’t passed his best I was in Manchester to watch his first fight with Thompson and he gave Thompson hell and we know what he did to David Haye,Shame Collins and calzaghe didn’t happen that would have been one hell of a fight
@@keithshayler1972 Very true, I'm from Dublin, saw lots of Collins fights, but I'm a fight fan, massive Lewis 1, saw him fight in Dublin 95, also saw Tyson V Francis fight, February 2000, Men, Arena Manchester, Calzaghe and Hatton were on the bill, even Hagler was there along with lots more. If Calzaghe fought Collins, it would have been a slog, a brawl, not good on the eye and going the distance, with big Joe getting the nod, deservedly by 2 rds. I've been catching up on Lloyd Honeyghan, used to like him, he was very very good but he also liked the high life.
Well he is back in 2019 bloody hell . Prodigal son is back
Who is he fighting?
Listen to the atmosphere thats what its about in the big fights
The fights in Saudi are shocking for the atmosphere
Nigel Benn!!! One of the greatest British Boxers ever!!! Steve collins, who cares!!!!???
Great friends. Take themselves out to dinner more than their wives.
2 great worriers of the past
the MAIN EVENT of the card
Beat eubank twice Benn twice very underrated fighter
Because he is not British or American
Hairiest Hands in sports broadcasting!
Smash it! 😁
Collins made Benn quit twice
Benn and Eubank
Nigel Benn should never have got into that ring that night! Both him & his corner knew he was fkd from about the 3d round, they both were hoping for a lucky punch early doors, Steve was bang on the boxing fans who paid alot of money to go & watch that were totally cheated!
thx for real
