Does your mower keep getting overwhelmed with issues due to mice or other vermin?
Is it happening more and more often even though trying to seal up the shed or garage?
We have to best tip to keep them out!
I have an area adjacent to a field and we get hundeds of mice around the outside of the house.
I can set a trap and get 10-20 within the night.
This is how I keep them out myself

Mothballs work great when you store equipment. I wrap the Mothballs in cheesecloth and I put them in places where the rodents like nest and it deters them from chewing on electrical wiring.
Yeah, usually directly on top of the engine. I see people use them in different cups, bags and single balls places around the equipment. They find their way to the muffler often times too!
Never found a snake in an engine before! But I would always welcome the black snakes in the barn. No issues with mice or rats! Thanks for sharing the mothball tip!
They work the best of everything I have ever used. Usually but a package of 2 they are in bundles and throw one right on top of the engine and close the cover. It keeps them even out of the shed ever since I started using this method. They would make nests on the upper shelves and ruin anything we had in there (pool toys, foam, cardboard, tarps, etc.). I had to replace the stator because of the first nest under the engine cover and every year at least one nest was found. Never since. Thanks for watching!

I have never seen or thought about a snake. Rodents and spiders yes. I noticed you lifted the top from a safe distance. Lol.
Yeah, definitely a shocker!!
No snakes here on Cape Cod, but plenty of mice. Just for the record, chipmunks have their burrows underground, so you won’t see any inside engines.
I’ve been using mothballs in my 2004 Chevy Astro with good success once I realized mice were in there sometimes. No chewed wiring yet that I know of.

A friend had a rear engine Snapper. When he started cutting his grass a copperhead and six babies crawled out between his legs. He bailed from the mower but was able to kill all the snakes.
Oh wow! That is sure a scare! I haven't seen a copperhead since my friend got bit by a young one and almost died 25 years ago. Thanks for watching!

Mice will use snake skins for nesting material.

If you try to run an engine that's packed full of rodent nest, it WILL overheat to the point that important parts get warped and your engine is TOAST. Mothballs or moth flakes keep the critters away. Throw a bag of mothballs on any engine that will be stored, then cover the whole thing with a tarp, big plastic bag or old shower curtain to contain the naphthalene smell.
When it comes to rodents and small engines, chewed wires might be the least of your worries.
You sure are right there! I estimate removing shroud and cleaning mouse nests out all the time but some people just do not get it. Thanks for watching!
You can only blow so much out without removing the top and vacuuming it all up/inspecting for damage
