More rings, more flow - Louder.
Less rings, less flow - Quieter.

No, it's the other way around.
More rings = more open = more noise.
Less rings = less open = less noise.

SuperTrapp® exhaust systems are uniquely tuneable. Back pressure and noise level are controlled by the number of discs used. Note: Increasing the number of discs creates a larger exhaust outlet area and therefore, causes less back pressure but more noise. Conversely, removing discs increases back pressure but reduces sound level.

backpressure is something you NEVER want to introduce and cork the end of your exhaust AND make it louder

trillrif axegrindor by adding or removing disks you can adjust your power curve. Increasing back pressure brings your power down lower at the cost of wide open performance. Adding disks opens up your exhaust for better wide open performance. Jetting and carb tuning will also change. More back pressure tends to run rich less back pressure tends to lean out. So carb will need tuned as well when adjusting.

More rings = louder, not quieter.

SuperTrapp discs provide a scavenging effect. Here’s how it works: the gap between each disc ranges from .023-in. wide on the inside of the muffler, to .028-in. on the external open edge. As hot exhaust gases pass through the discs to exit the muffler, they enter a larger area, creating a slight pressure drop (air velocity) as the gas expands, creating a scavenging effect for the hot gas still inside the muffler. Adding discs increases the size of the exhaust outlet area. Removing discs decreases the exhaust outlet surface area.
The discs are for tuning, not for louder/lower sound!

Yeah I discovered that the companies FAQ page said that. I believe that the term that I should have used was the more discs louder tuned sound; less discs louder basic style sound.

The bass increases with an increase in the number of discs. One thing I would like to know is the long-term effect (good or bad) on the engine.

What is the benefit in terms of performance (power) and/or heat dissipation?

And all this time I thought they were for cars! So it's just an end cap for your expansion tube?

Thank you, great basic 'how it works'.
    One Correction;
    More Discs=More Sound/More Flow
    Less Discs=Less Sound/Less Flow

Supertrapps are awesome, tuneability is endless.

Let's not forget that the typical Supertrapp muffler body, before the stack of defuser discs, is a 2" perforated core with fiberglass packing material, basically a glass-pack muffler, and the stack at the exit end is merely a tuning aid. On my 100" Harley Evo motor I run an open end cap with a 1.5" hole in the end. It sounds good to me, and runs like stink in that custom built bagger....

It's called an antireversinary disc. It's difficult for exhaust gases to re enter the exhaust pipe therefore creating a scavenging effect.

Nice video. Three pointers for your next videos:
    1. Don't use a drawing that looks like it was made by a 8-y.o., use a proper technical diagram; if you can't make one, use a Powerpoint slide or MSPaint.
    2. If you use blue ink for the picture, you cannot use the same blue for your comments and explanation, everything will be "blue on blue with more blue to explain". Use one color for the basic picture, one color for the explanation, and a third color where required.
    3. Script your video; it is unnerving and tiresome to wade through your "uhmmm" and "aaah" during the video. Write down your comment and read it as you go through the explanation. Maybe not an AcademyAward winner but certain to multiply your hits tenfold !
