  • SuperTrapp performance exhausts are tunable utilizing their patented tunable disc technology. SuperTrapp manufactures performance exhausts for various applications including V-Twin, Metric, Sport bike, Dirt bike, ATV and Automotive. Adding or subtracting discs allows the rider to control the flow of their exhaust. Closed End Caps and Open End Caps are compatible with the tunable exhaust systems and each one serves a different purpose which the video explains.

I never knew how those worked. Thank you so much for this clear and educational video.

I've never understood why adding disks reduces backpressure/increases flow, seemed counter-intuitive. But, now I see why this works. Each disk flows exhaust from the internal area of the disk to the outside through the disk. Stacking disks increases the effective opening for the exhaust to pass through. It's a shame sky-car Moller didn't hang on to this invention, he'd be better funded today.

the widening gap SLOWS exhaust flow through the gaps. Velocity has an inverse correlation to area of the passage. If the passage is small, the velocity will be high, and vice versa. Think about how if you have a tall faucet and run the water, the stream narrows as it falls; gravity increases its velocity and surface tension holds it together (like the walls of an exhaust), so so the area (cross section) shrinks.
In this case, that quiets the exhaust note because it spreads out the exhaust, decreasing the velocity (which rapidly decreases the energy and in turn the volume when mixing with air), and disrupts sound waves.

As the manufacturer, I wish you would do the math... calculate the area of a 'open' exhaust pipe at say 2 1/2" dia pipe, then calculate the area using a Supertrapp muffler with 3 disks, 6 disks, 8 disks, 12 disks.... Not only sound is important, but different engines need different amount of back pressure for optimum performance at various RPMs.. it effects total torque and horsepower. Those calculations have been missing from every Supertrapp ad or video Ive seen. You might sell more, if people understood the basics.

This 9 year old video explains it perfectly so closed cap and few discs is smooth street quiet sound, more discs and open cap is to pull the loud agressive noise when riding in woods or track, thanks a lot!!!

Had this on a ninja 600 tuning is key, you can control floe and backpressure to tune the power band. Also can tune noise or loudness. The only pipe than can be tuned and if you like kep you from rejetting or ramppng fuel. With 2-4 discs on 600 it was just like stock, quiet and plenty of back pressure for low end grunt, more plate inceases noise and reduces back pressure for upper rpm running. if you go one extreme or the the other remap or rejet will optimize the power. You can run it opencan with rejet or remap, and if you get a ticket slap 3 plates on it and go get ticket torn up as it is then so quiet you cannot hear it, just like stock.

With this type of exhaust pipe they block the engine exhaust flow is it okay for engine health? Because exhaust flow can’t go freely 🤔

They supply "anti-seize-grease" with the disc bolts that an owner is supposed to apply to the threads when tightening the screws holding the disc pack. The grease is supposed to make it possible to unscrew the discs in case of changing the amount of discs.
Without the grease the bolts will corrode and may become impossible to turn after some use.

Best exhaust system out there IMO. You can tune it for more HP or more torque or better miles per gallon or a compromise between all three in any combination of two or more. I have to laugh at the know-nothings who badmouth the SuperTrapp without even attempting to tune the thing. I've played with settings on my ZX-9R of six discs to twelve. At six, performance is similar to stock. My 9R oddly enough prefers nine diffusers. Power, throttle response & power have all improved. 52 MPG too!!!

If you tune it with few disks it mimics stock and no remp is needed, open it up with more discs and use same as any free flowing pipe. Best thing is after remap if it is not perfect you can add and remove disc to tune to the map.

It depends pn bike and on tune up, any other mods etc. Just start with a few and add 2 at a time until you like the way it pulls. I do not think there is any one amount, it depends on if you have free flow ait filter, or any other mods to the bike, the best thing is you can tun eit with a bit of trial and error you will find the sweet spot.
