Growing up, I used to go get smoothies at the local shop and wonder why ANYONE would get wheatgrass. It looked gross, tasted gross, and smoothies are supposed to be a treat, right? Fast forward a couple of decades and here I am growing wheatgrass juice. Funny how things change.
Wheatgrass benefits are massive: tons of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. And from a gardener's perspective, they're extremely easy to grow.

    Juice Recipe + Common FAQs:
Mix any citrus juice at a 1:1 ratio with wheatgrass to temper out the grassiness and add a bit of sweetness. You can also blend into your smoothies, or freeze into cubes and use in the future.
    Common Question:
    - Soak 6-8 hours, do not go over 8 hours or you can damage seeds
    - Take the blackout tray off 48 hours after sowing seeds
    - Lights on a minimum of 16 hours a day
    - Light placement should be as close as possible to top of trays without burning plants

You can make wheatgrass juice w/o a juicer. Snip the wheatgrass into 1/2 inch chunks until you have a half cup. Put in blender with at least a cup of spring water or juice of your choice. Blend by pulsing and stopping. Strain.

You're supposed to grow it longer before cutting!😁 wait until stalks split into 2 leaves, usually 5-7 inches. That US the right kind of juicer for wheatgrass! If too strong, add water and can also add fresh mint while juicing it!

I used a juicer like that for wheat grass juicing for about a year. It turned out that half of the plastic impeller inside the plastic casing disappeared within a year. Thus I had eaten a bunch of plastic. Since then I switched to the all stainless steel Wheatgrass King. That thing is well worth it, it has lasted already for 15 years and is tough enough to juice various green things growing in the neighborhood.

@@epicgardening Thanks, The Wheatgrass King will last for decades and make many wild growing green leafy things fair game. All grasses are 100% safe. wild clover is great, miners lettuce is good. Grass is needed to make your juicer work without getting constipated by more slimy greens than it usualy is intended to handle. You can buy some greens in the store, eat some of them in the standard way, then throw the rest of them (stems) in the juicer. this works well for carrot greens. The energy this brings tends to make you holier including your crap.

Just experiment, wheatgrass is very easy and fast to grow.
Reasons people grow without soil: lower chance of mold and parasites from the soil. con of growing without soil is that your wheat will die if you dont flush/water it 2-3 times a day but this method is very easy if you have time to just refresh the water and don't let the wheat sit in any water, the goal is to keep the wheat/roots moist and that is all.
Reasons people grow with soil/another medium: Hold moisture very well so you can get away with watering only three times in about 10 days! If you over water your wheat will rot and there's not much you can do about it.
Seeds should be kept moist from the point of soaking and germination, covering just encourages the sprout to grow up more quickly and has little bearing on whether the seeds should be moistened or not.

      @deadpxn3517 2 роки тому +1

@@keebhaavana3387 Situational, if you water everyday using soil and end up overwatering your going to destroy your grass with mold and it becomes a health risk. Simply check if the wheat/medium is moist or starting to dry it, keep it at a healthy moistness level but don't oversaturate.

Yes, the trays with the soil has holes. The bottom tray that he puts the soil tray in, has no holes. My most favorable way to water after the roots have grown is to bottom water (pouring water in bottom tray with no holes) this helps prevents mold and fungus growing up top in general for micros (:

I have a question: I'm not using any soil, just water.
if the sprouts produce white mold (that looks like cotton) can you wash it out and still use it for juicing? I already made 2 batches and I keep getting this white mold. I'm washing it out and then spraying it with water and baking soda.
My first batch is almost fully grown to it's optimal size and doesn't seem to have any more white mold but it did have it at first during the first few days and I also rinsed and kept spraying it with water and baking soda. Not sure if it's safe to juice.

I'll be straight up. Lots of dubious information here at best. First, he leaves about a third of the wheatgrass on the stalk with the first cut. Cut it down to 3/4 inch, why waste it, and good, organic seed is expensive, I don't know who is paying for his supply... Next, you are done with the mat, compost it, feed it to the chickens or rabbits, but if you leave it to grow back, it is MUCH lower quality for juicing, not worth it. Let the cats play with it, they would enjoy that. Next up, that Omega NC800 juicer with the single auger is an OUTSTANDING machine to do this job, what do you mean, this isn't the best? It is not a Super Angel, and I have one of those... but it will juice anything you stuff into it and produce a high quality juice. Yeah, so 2.5 million subs? People, you can do better.
