The 80-90's were the best for not only the NFL, but for all the great POCKET PASSER QB's! Long before it turned into a replica of a grade school playground!
In 89 we I had the opportunity 2 watch a lot of great QBs.Dallas my favorite team,Denver my 2nd but John Elway is my favorite QB all time.We went through some rough years both teams but Denver more so cause Dallas won some Superbowls.I was happy 2 see Elway get 2 b 4 he retired. He was a bad man.He could spin the ball!!
Back when Raiders-Broncos was a really good rivalry because the Raiders mattered. Even with my beloved Broncos struggling against them traditionally, I will say the NFL needs the Raiders to matter. They are an iconic, flagship franchise and they often made me cry when I was little.
Brad James I couldn't agree more, and this is coming from a Jet fan. If they couldn't make it work in Oakland then they should have been allowed to move back to L.A. where they still have a monster fan base. Hopefully it works out for them in Las Vegas, but the league has now alienated fan bases in both Oakland and San Diego as well as moved another team to L.A. that no one there cares about. But back to your point: the Raiders need to matter and having a true home will help in that regard. It's just too bad that home can't be where it should be.
I remember clear as day watching this live as a kid (and Raiders fanatic) on the east coast and being stunned speechless by LT Rory Graves and his THREE holding penalties in a row that took the team out of the red zone and into oblivion. Raider defensive heroics brought them back into the game but the comically inept offense fumbled/intercepted the game away... Shanahan would be fired I think a little over a week later. Davis had traded away all-pro LT Jim Lachey for Jay Schroeder the INT machine earlier, and the great Marcus Allen was by now in Al Davis's doghouse--Al let the game pass him by while he spent all his time in court moving the franchise around. Very sad.
19:40 Elway with the 29 yard touchdown run breaking a tackle in the backfield and then with a great nose for the goal line. He has great instincts for when to run.

Jay Schroeder launches a 70 yard pass that goes so high it looks like a punt.

Droppin his shoulder on Vann McElroy was so damn awesome.

Elway avoids a tackler, then on the move throws a perfect pass with touch for a TD right before getting crunched.
I don’t think Wade gets the credit he deserves. He was a great coach. He saw the talent Braxton brought to that D

Jay Schroeder overthrew Olympic sprinter Willie Gault. What's wrong with this picture?
Wouldn't have mattered anyway. Gault couldn't catch it if it was handed to him.
