It's important to note that the Amish give their adolescent children a choice before committing to the church. They're allowed to explore life outside the community, if they choose to. They aren't forced into it. If someone chooses to live their life like that, and it makes them happy, that's their choice. I don't want anyone telling me how I should live my life, so I'm not going to partake into telling others how to live theirs. I see your point on the abuse aspects, but the only thing we can do is offer them support if they ever wanted to get out.
I respect the Amish lifestyle but any sect, or any social grouping, that restricts information on our own bodies and its full range of capabilities and our ability to experience pain and pleasure, is a group that is doing harm to people.
