You wanna set the concrete little higher above the ground just so water doesn't sit around the wood post. That way you can avoid water damage at the very base and have a longer life for the post. You can still add some concrete mixture on around it now. Little idea, i hope it helps. Great job anyways and your kid, we need more kids like him these days. Hope your video inspires other kids and parents to teach or involve their kids with such useful choruses around the house.
Good feedback! I’m about to start work in a pergola at the house and I’ll try to out that knowledge to use. I’ll also try and get Liam involved again!!! Thanks for watching and enjoying.
Fantastic job on your swing ...I'm in the process of making one myself.im not a woodworker I'm actually an ironworker welder so I'm more used to steel than wood which I have incorporated into my swing...lol...I wish I would have filmed it..lol...I wish I would have seen your video first...also I put armrests and curved back...still working on ... maybe I can find a way to send you a picture on here when I'm done...my woodworking skills...are nowhere near as good as yours....once again great job
@@Purveyorofawesome ...well I learned to weld in Ironworkers apprenticeship school through my union...but buy a small mig welder extremely easy to use ..I garuntee you will do well with your skills
That's a neat Job there. Did it hold strong with just 2 beams how dip was the hole ? Do you have a layout on paper? I am trying to make something like that
I put links to the plans and pins I used to plan it out. Holding strong still years later. There’s a few calculators online for hold depth and pole highs out of the ground. I think it’s roughly 1/3 of the height needs to be in the ground.
Hey dude! Looks like you have a sweet spot for this arbor swing. Very jealous. Could you do a brother from across the pond a favour? Where did you get the plans for the swing?
I used a few different pins I found on Pinterest. One had some lengths recommendations on it, and I just adjusted for what I knew I was building. The links to those two pins are in the descriptions. If you don't see them, let me know.
Purveyor of Awesome thanks buddy. Now I see them. Was being blind before. I'm adapting it slightly as I'll be building in to a 6 post pergola. There are a lot of videos out there for reference, but this was just easy watching.
Hey I see where you took the measurements from pinterest but where is the smaller exploded views from each of the smaller cuts you made with the small jig saw? Sorry a Noob but really would like to take on this challenge...looks sweet. I could use all the help I can get, thanks in advance.
I made it from a few different pins I found on Pinterest. Arbor Pin on Pinterest: bit.ly/TBS-Arbor Swing Pin on Pinterest: bit.ly/TBS-Swing Hope that helps! Let me know how the build goes.
Purveyor of Awesome hey! I would make it at least a half lap joint. But maybe better is to have two 'rails' or carrying beams going the length of the bench at the back and the from of the seat. And to have those stick out to the side of the bench. That's where you create your ankers
What size posts did you use? I am wanting to make a pergola like this one with a swing for our back yard. Drew up a design but needing to see how to actually build it. So did you cut all the pieces first? Asking questions while I am watching. For the top boards, you used a plate for the round part to trace. What size boards did you use? 2x6x10 or 12's?
Been awhile since I built this, but I want to say I used 6x6 pressure treated posts. Height can vary depending on how tall you’re wanting to make your pergola.
NEB Barnes The pin on Pinterest had them at 111”, so over 9’. It depends on how wide your swing is and how much room you want between your swing and the posts of the pergola. I can’t remember what my exact measurements were, sorry!
I see a lot of people in the comment section asking for measurements and plans for this project. This video is about as informative as a bucket of bull shit!!!!!!!!
Treated lumber lumber, why u wasting your time. Sanding and cutting and you breathing that treated sawdust:( I i have 50 years as a carpenter read the warnings on treated dude

Looks good! I'm building one very similar from plans in WOOD magazine.
Can you please give me a measurement chart and thank you very much in advance.great job You inspired me
Tremendous work! Will you be doing more videos on this topic soon?
How long are the 2x6's supports that run front to back?
How did you hang the swing bench ? Like where did you attach the hooks for chains?
Do you by chance have a materials list wanting to make this for my wife
I do not, sorry. I pieced it all together from the different Pinterest posts I linked in the description.

@@Purveyorofawesome thanx for the tips. And where can i find the link to those Plans.
Just watched your great video. Could you tell me where you found the plans for the pergola?
I didn't get them from one place .I pieced together thoughts from a few different resources mentioned in the video.

The 8 double pocket screws which connect the back and the seat will fail
So far, so good. What would you recommend though for others that find or watch this?
