"We can't get involved" suggests that they're in legal proceedings against that company at the moment and due to the legal back-and-forth they're blocked from doing pretty much anything until it's resolved.
This seems to make sense to me. Commenting or offering help could potentially go against the advice of counsel on how to proceed until the case resolves.
So... author and/or affiliate sold some right, but did not read "fine print" and ended giving-up souls and bodies to wrong agency/publisher, it seems...
If this is what Drach has to go through, unless he decides to go with my suggestion to "War At Sea", dropping the theme music, altogether, isn't a bad idea.
That copyright abuse thing isn't incompetence. It's malice. They know the only recourse a small timer has is to surrender because even the smallest company knows you won't have the resources to even take them to court, let alone to beat them in court.
They also know the youtube copyright system is on the side of the claimant, Even if they can't prove they own the copyright. And it's on the accused to prove they have the rights to use it
Unfortunately, that never stops the UA-cam shenanigans. Somebody could make a cover version that's close to the original, claim a copyright in the _recording_ (which is separate from the songwriting), submit that to YT, and then almost all of the videos with that song will get claimed because the algorithm can't tell the difference. It really is a sea of thieves out there exploiting YT and the creators for everything they can.
This is what lawyers at least here in the US do when they know they can't win a case, just keep it in courts long enough to bleed you of all your money or until the lawyer fees and court fees become so much that it's easier just to give up and then win by default. Got to love the American court systems you don't have to be right to win in court you just have to have more money and more patience
The person/group making the claim should be forced to cover all costs if they lose (this should apply to all accusations of any type). And, in the context of the internet / UA-cam, "claiming" something should have zero effect until proven in a court setting; innocent until proven guilty and all that.

@@clffliese26Not in the US. The original sound recordings of the _Victory at Sea_ music are under copyright until 2062.
