I was at their first ever proper concert, which was a free one at London's Hyde Park in the summer of 1969 (I was a mere 18 years old). At the time I didn't realise quite how historical that occasion would be, even though it is still imprinted indelibly on my memory.

You are right in your comment abort Cream is pre 70 metal, this is drummer and gitarrist from Cream, and singer from Traffic, basist from Family. One of The first supergroups.

Lex absolutely needs to hear this song. Stevie and Eric do a steller job on it live at his Crossroads Festival in 2006 or 07. Clapton and Stevie do a great back and forth solos and the crowd goes nuts. Great song and so of its era, gives me chills and not many were doing music like this in those days. Enjoy! 🎵🎸♩

Brings back great 8th-grade memories. Blind Faith, Led Zeppelin II. My one strong memory is Heartbreaker being played in one 8th-grade class while the teacher was out and a blonde girl getting up and dancing, saying, “I can’t help but move my body to Heartbreaker.” Good times. Thanks, Nick.

Amazing, it's been 50 years since I last heard this song when I used to play this album a lot. I was just learning to play the guitar and was equally challenged to play that riff. There was a time when I wanted to play like Eric Clapton. Now, I am being challenged to play the piano like Erroll Garner. In learning music, I approach learning with aspirations to emulate archetypes "Jung believed that archetypes come from the collective unconscious. He suggested that these models are innate, universal, unlearned, and hereditary. Archetypes organize how we experience certain things." Obvious archetypes are superheroes such as Superman but the guitar hero or musical virtuoso are definite archetypes.

Hi Nick, some more Blind Faith, brilliant ! Great reaction thankyou. A group you really need to hear live, especially as they only did one album. During the 70's Eric Clapton was called God for his amazing guitar playing although his main nickname was "Slowhand Clapton". He reworked a number of Blind Faith tracks on his solo albums. In the 70's there was a pole for the greatest ever guitar riff. There obvious contenders were Deep Purple "Smoke on the Water" & Led Zeppelin "A Whole Lotta Love" . The winner was Eric Clapton and I immediately thought "Layla" but it wasn't. It was a track called "Let It Grow" I had not heard the track so I got the album it was on "461 Ocean Boulevard" I had been meaning to buy anyway. I got a shock as the track is a really slow love song he sings with Evonne Ellaman ....& where's the guitar riff ? The greatest ever ? ...I kept listening ...and there it was. Omg ! .... I get it now .. as to why ? It is absolutely beautiful. All the time I was thinking a rock guitar riff ...this is not that ! You just need to hear that track to know. It was voted the greatest guitar riff of all time ! I am addicted to it and have been for decades ! You will not play the track without playing it again straight away. Byee Jim X

    • @markbrennan8033

Let it Rain was before Derek and the Dominoes on a solo album from Eric Clapton. He and Bonnie Bramlett collaborated on it. That was a great studio version. Two live versions by Derek and the Dominoes came out also pre 461 ocean boulevard. One was noticeably better and both were long with a Jim Gordon drum solo and copious guitar soloing by EC.

Too bad she didn't stay. So many people only know Blind Faith from "Can't Find My Way Home", which was the only acoustic song on the album. Winwood's lead guitar playing is heavily influenced by Clapton, and when they toured together in 2008, and did this song, they were both playing lead guitar on the last part. I don't know about the album though, because Clapton did a double lead part on Cream's "Politician".
