#BlindFaith #SteveWinwood
Arguably one of the first Supergroups in rock history. Steve Winwood on keys, guitar, vocals, Eric Clapton who needs no introduction, Ginger Baker on drums and percussion who is one of the GOATS, and Ric Grech on bass and violin. One album and they broke up and went on to make history. Great song, a classic album really that demands that you give it a listen in its entirety. 🔥❤️✌️
Sure enough, after Eric and Ginger's former band, Cream, which is arguably the first rock supergroup.
Gotta love the fact that no one invited Ginger Baker to join the band. He basically just showed up and no one had the guts to tell him “What are you doing?” 😂😂😂
@@timpafundi6321 beware of Mr. Baker.
@@icepick1514 That was an amazing documentary ✌️
Hey man, it was just after Cream and you know that.. ;D
low spark of high heeled boys
Traffic Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, live Santa Monica
Hi! Listen to Steve Winwood with Traffic!! Low Spark of High Heeled Boys!! Great tune! Thanks!
Love love this album, superstar lineup. "Presence of the Lord" is the song that does it for me. Clapton on his way to Derek and the Dominos. Steve Winwood an absolute legend with the group Traffic.
This is the only acoustic song on the album. After Cream broke up, members guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker got together with former Spenser Davis Group singer and keyboardist Steve Winwood and bassist Rick Grech to form Blind Faith, which lasted about a year. You have to check out "Had To Cry Today", at about the 6:40 mark the song gets a whole new life when Clapton and Winwood both start trading guitar licks through Leslie speakers. In the same way, Clapton's "In The Presence Of The Lord" gets transformed half way through with one of his few uses of wah wah. The vehicle for Ginger Baker's drum solo, "Do What You Like" shows a Joe Morello influence in that it is in 5/4 time. Steve Winwood became a big thing when he joined The Spencer Davis Group at 15 as singer / keyboardist. You might have heard some of their hits like "Gimme Some Lovin' ". In 1968 he played organ on Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile". He was the leader of the group Traffic, and later, as a solo artist, had a hit with " Bring Me A Higher Love ".
I really love their cover of Buddy Holly’s “Well All Right” (especially their extended jam at the end).
You took the words right out of my mouth!!!
Great: IS this the album version, I never heard this version before.
@@josecanavezes8196 its off the original album. Unfortunately, their 1 & only album...
That dueling guitar thing you mentioned is unbelievable! A gem of Rock history!
Steve Winwood is brilliant! ❤️
His new versions of this song live are jus as good.
Stevie Winwood was 21 when he did this and he was already a 5-year veteran. He wrote classics like Gimme Some Loving and I'm a Man when he was in his teens with the Spencer Davis Group. Then after this album he had some of his best albums with Traffic in the 70s and later a solo career. HIs voice is amazing, but you haven't seen what he is most famous for - his Hammond organ. Try Empty Pages from John Barleycorn (anything off this album is great) shows his organ playing. Or how about this. A few months before they made this album, Jimi Hendrix checked out Stevie playing at a club in NYC (Hendrix was a true music fan, he would record acts he liked on a little tape recorder. Joni Mitchell was shocked once when Jimi approached her and asked permission to record her and she said - sure). Well, Jimi invited him back to the studio at like 3 in the morning and they recorded Voodoo Child, not the fast VC (slight return) version, but the slow raw, bluesy 15-minute version that ends up uncut on the Electric Ladyland album. Jimi and Stevie trading solos on a late night on-the-spot improvised jam. The 60s, wild and crazy and beautiful...
Empty Pages is a song I just drop whatever I'm doing to listen to... love the melodies, the drums and as you mentioned the organ!
You would be familiar with Steve Winwood if you've ever listened to Traffic. And if you've never listened to Traffic you've missed one of the great bands of all time.
Low spark of high heeled boys is my fav Traffic song
Steve Winwood and John Paul Jones of Zeppelin, are two of the most unsung heroes of music of the last 60 years.
You two have to listen to Steve Windwood’s acoustic version, just him & a guitar in front of a fireplace, it’s awesome! ✌🏻❤️
*Winwood*

I love the way the fire cracks in that but Steve doesn't even flinch. There's also a great version of John Barleycorn Must Die from the same session. I think Nick and Lex would love Traffic. The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys is probably my favourite.
Great choice!!
@@moefeaux1442 Thanks! I had it in my mind that he'd recorded this during the pandemic, so skipped right by this link.
Steve Winwood--stellar songwriter/musician since mid 60's. 2 Great Albums to check out--"John Barleycorn Must Die" and "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"--will open some "colorful" musical doors!!
I love love John Barleycorn Must Die. I know Low Spark of High Heeled Boys gets more play but I love the melody of John Barleycorn. It's just beautiful. His acoustic guitar playing on that song is stellar.
Second those nominations.
Yep! Love them both too!!
John Barleycorn is a classic late 60's progressive rock album. Era defining.
Agreed!
Started with the Spencer Davis group as a teenager
Traffic
Blind faith (with Eric Clapton on guitar)
Then an amazing solo careers
He is an amazing keyboard and guitar player
Check out the live Clapton Winwood reunion concert
And by teenager, I believe Winwood was 15 or 16 when he joined Spencer Davis Group!
Steve Winwood, vocals, guitar, Eric Clapton, vocals, guitar, Rick Grech, bass, Ginger Baker, drums. BTW, both Steve and Eric are playing acoustic on this track.
Ginger Baker on drums without sticks
Magically Beautiful
Steve Winwood of course remains one of Rock’s Classic royalty. The accomplished songwriter, vocalist, guitarist snd piano player was integral to Blind Faith, Traffic, etc.
Steve Winwood wrote this song. He and Eric Clapton both played acoustic guitars on this track. If you two like this song then get ready to fall into a deep rabit hole. Steve was in the Spencer Davis Group as a teenager. There is a video of him at 15 or 16 here on UA-cam singing "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out." Amazing to watch.
First!!! Quintessential saucy classic rock!!!! I always do the air crash when the time is right.
In the eighties I thought Steve Winwood was a new artist on the scene. Ha. Same with Peter Gabriel. Hey, I was only 12.
Other member you know: Eric Clapton.
Ric Grech is kind of forgotten today. He died in 1990 from renal failure due to alcoholism. He was with a briefly-popular band called Family, then went on to work with Blind Faith, Traffic and Ginger Baker's Air Force.
You know you've got a drug problem when Eric Clapton fires you for being too much of a party boy.
Some very rare people are just kissed by the Talent Gods to do great and wondrous things with their gifts-- even at an early age. Steve Winwood is one of those rare, talented people. And music lovers all over the world are truly blessed that he exists. Period.
Hitting up a classic here! There is a spiritual vibe on this song and then on Presence of the Lord. Sometimes we realize this Earth is not our real home. That’s my take anyway. Glad you two found this. Sea of Joy is another great song from this album.
Sea Of Joy and Do What You Like are the gems on this album. Eric Clapton shines on these songs. Well Alright by Buddy Holly and The Crickets is also great. Presence Of The Lord is monumental.
Their version of Well Alright is one of the great covers ever.
@@9211goat Agree!
@Patrick Donaldson Paul McCartney owns the publishing rights to the Buddy Holly catalog.
My sentiments entirely....
I've got to say it: Lexie is just TOO beautiful for words, a lady with music in her Soul, and sunshine in her smile. Nick's obviously earned himself a pile of Good Karma - and he's spent it wisely!
That's very kind of you. Thank you!!

Just speaking the truth, Honey ;-)
Such a hauntingly beautiful song, always produces feelings of melancholy in me when I hear this. Was used to great effect at the end of the movie Fandango from the mid 80s.
Nothing sadder than not being able to find your way home... can't hear this without tearing up...
@@jondhuse1549 the song was written to and about eric clapton and his 'abuse' of drugs during this time and how steve winwood was feeling like his time was being 'wasted' by eric.. and how this band was everything he had ever wanted (home) but he can't seem to get back there because of eric's issues... the band did eventually break up after being together for something like 7 months with one album (that had two covers)
@@blueboy4244 Yeah, I can see that - thanks.
Man yall have the most diverse content out there. What a gem of a tune. Great reaction Nick and Lex!
You guys should check out the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'" from '67. It's a real scorcher, with Winwood on lead vocals and organ. Wow, what a song. Winwood also had a great hit with "I'm A Man" with Spencer Davis. You can really get lost digging into Traffic, too, as well as some of Winwood's (generally more heavily produced) solo stuff. He's a tremendous artist who can write, sing and play a plethora of instruments including keys, guitar and bass.
OOOH Another great one! A lovely tune! Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton...and crew.
I was lucky enough to see Steve Winwood at the Albert Hall in London with my brother while we were on vacation in England. It was during his solo career and he played this unaccompanied during the show. Such a great performance !
There is a UA-cam video of Steve playing this solo at his farm in England that is just wonderful. For a real treat, there’s another UA-cam video of Steve playing “No One Knows You When You’re Down And Out” with his band when he was just 15 years old ! He’s been around for quite a while and is an extremely talented multi instrumentalist.
Out of all of centuries that humans have populated the World , we are truly blessed to occupy this Spaceship Earth at the exact same time as Steve Winwood. He is a treasure. One of the local bands that I was friends with back in the day featured an acoustic set most nights, with the lead singer playing acoustic guitar. Another guitar player friend and I sat in one night and we dd this song. I played a soft flute-like accompaniment to them on a MiniMoog synth, and it was truly magical. Has always been one of my all-time favorite tunes.
Love your reactions. Lots of good comments in the comments section so I won’t go far. Winwood: Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, the rest of the Blind Faith album. Clapton: John Mayall’s Blues Breakers (one album = Must Listen), Cream, Derek and the Dominoes)
Upvoting ⬆️. Thanks, MD. ✨😉
Steve Winwood is one of the all time great vocalists - the early Traffic albums are phenomenal - Dear Mr. Fantasy is an all out classic song, as is Heaven is in Your Mind, Feelin' Alright, Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring, Shanghai Noodle Factory, etc.
This is dad. Wow! Definitely more classic and complex than "Higher Love" which is the one I briefly sang to Alexia. Steve's voice definitely has a great range. Beautiful doing. Can't wait to hear the 15-minute one! 👍
Hi Mario. I got to see him up close … performing Higher Love at a Halloween street party once. But I love his back catalog too. Thanks for your input with this channel. ✨😉

@@marioFlores-pq5xr No problem 😉👍 Enjoy your Colorado day. ⛰ ☀️
The Spencer Davis Group and Traffic were 2 other Steve Winwood groups to check out.. just as good as Blind Faith. Also Eric Clapton is in this group
I am not sure if you guys have checked out Traffic but Steve Winwood was also in Traffic which has one of the best songs, I think, which is Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. Can't find my way home is also one of my favorites. Love the channel... can't wait for more Steely Dan!
The best song by my first loved group.
❣️👍👏❣️👍❣️🌻❣️💓❣️
Legend has it they performed their first concert Steve and Eric looked out and saw the crowd and realized on one had heard any of their music . Eric responded with their here by Blind Faith.
BLIND FAITH, "I CAN'T FIND MY WAY HOME", Groovy 1969 Masterpiece. Steve also played with Traffic, sang a couple of classics. "LOW SPARK OF HIGH HEELED BOYS", "DEAR MR. FANTASY" and Spencer Davis Group, singing "I'M A MAN", "GIVE ME SOME LOVIN". When he started with this group, I believe he was 15...
Ohhh fantastic blind faith!!! Fantastic album! You have to check out the last song "do what you like". You will not be dissapointed!!!!
People didn't understand Blind Faith at the time. They expected Cream with Winwood added on organ and vocals and didn't fully take to the often laid back acoustic feel.
An immense rabbit hole if you follow all the different musicians in this super group. Some Traffic is in order.
On Eric Clapton's album "E.C. Was Here," Clapton does a great duet of this with Yvonne Elliman.
Listen to Steve when he plaued in Traffic. Their 2bd album is a classic. Also 'John Barleycorn Must Die'. Steve also had a solo career in the 80's. A very talented man?
Do you know why Winwood didn’t start his solo career until he was 29?
Because he was stuck in Traffic!
😂 I live for these comments!
😂
You so need to listen to Traffic, a wonderful band that made the most amazing music.
I forgot how much I love this.....
The acoustic guitar work...
The vocals....
The drumming....
Just brilliant
Steve Winwood is an absolute legend.
You guys have to listen to “Do What You Like” from this album. 1 album for this first “supergroup”. Winwood, Clapton, Ginger Baker (both from Cream) and Ric Grech (he and Winwood in traffic). Maybe also the Buddy Holly cover “It’s All Right” from this album. Fun to listen to Holly version and then see how Blind Faith morphed it into their own.
Winwood and Clapton on the acoustics
Yes, 2 guitars for sure. Or one guy with four hands.
@@cobbycaputo3332 lol you mean like Steve Vai?
@@davidmccullough7402 😆
Guys, if you believe this was great check out Steve Winwood at his very live best for a real treat, not to mention his Blind Faith band mates at this live event: Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Boys Live at Santa Monica Civic Center, 1972. Simply Amazing.
Steve Winwood (the Singer) is one of the greatest guys in Music History. You must hear Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and his solo Albums. Blind Faith was titled as the first Super Group in Rock Music because the members came from popular Bands.
I would consider Cream the first "supergroup"
@@uofm4life735 have only quoted the press at the time. Cream was called a supergroup because they were great instrumentalists. But Blind Faith was the first supergroup where all members came from successful bands. But let's not argue about the emperor's beard. Both supergroups ok?
@@theheepster Totally agree.
@@theheepster I totally see the reasoning with cream not being first "supergroup" cuz only Clapton came from established groups..yardbirds and I'd even go with John Mayalls bluesbreakers and all the members of blind faith were from former established groups.I think we can say all the above mentioned are awesome and are very lucky we have great music to always listen to. Enjoyed the back and forth as music is a great joy to me and I love discussing it...peace my man👍🎸🥁
They were ALWAYS there 😊
Just go right to a full-album reaction. It’s one of a kind!
All legends Rockin this 🤘
Love me some Blind Faith, and this song especially. I have been down that road many times. :) Now I go co-listen. :)
Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood on Guitars, Winwood on vocals, Ginger Baker Drums and Rick Grech on Bass
And to this day, Winwood 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 sounds 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐛! ♡
Ginger!!! 😎
"Drums are the heartbeat of the universe. ... Drummers who can't play Jazz, play Rock-n-Roll." ...Ginger Baker 🥁
Clapton and Winwood both play guitar. There's a live version of this on UA-cam. Great stuff.
An amazing one off from this supergroup.
Clapton was all over the place, with John Mayall, in Cream, in Blind Faith, and of course in Derek and the Dominoes, with Duane Allman.
Sorry for the length of this comment. Steve Winwood has been in a few super groups. Here's a band and song that you would enjoy. It was a short lived super group that seems to be forgotten. If you play it and react, many will say ... oh, yeah. Also, others will appreciate learning about them due to the star studded lineup.
The song is CROSSING THE LINE ... by GO ... go means "5" in Japanese. The group consists of Steve Winwood on vocals and keys, Al Di Meola on guitar (was called the fastest guitarist), Klaus Schulze on keys (was in Tangerine Dream and a leader in the electronic German sound ... he passed away a few weeks ago), Michael Shrieve on drums (drummer on first 7 Santana albums ... 2nd youngest performer at Woodstock), and Stomu Yamashta on percussion and keys (very interesting musician ... more of a soundtrack guy for TV and movies).
Looking at the personnel, you must admit that they were a super group ... correct? Anyhow, PLEASE ... I BEG YOU ... play this song. Please play the 7:48 Live from Paris version ... great guitar...
Here's the UA-cam link:

It delivers. Thanks ✨😉
10 yrs ago saw Eric and Steve in concert together in Columbus, Ohio.... fantastic show !!
Heard it on the radio to school way back in early 1970s. Eric Clapton - Guitars. Ginger Baker- Drums. Steve Winwood - Vocals and Keyboards (None this song). Ric Grech - Bass.
Always loved this song, and the whole album, for that matter! Also, Traffic's Mr. Fantasy (especially the track "Dear Mr Fantasy"), John Barleycorn Must Die and The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. Lots of great music ahead! Lucky you!!🎵❤️🎵
Another first for Michael ! Better late than never my friends. I loved the guitar work ! Finger picking my own favourite style of playing. Thanks Lex for sharing great reaction loved it ❤
PS have a great weekend our friends 😀
This Entire Album is A Treasure ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Steve hit mainstream radio success with “Higher Love” off a solo record in the mid 80’s.
It’s a good song, for being a huge radio hit!
Steve on vocals and keyboards on one of the most beautiful songs written
Hi Guys, it may be just one studio album but it is a classic. Eric Clapton has a few of these tracks on his solo albums. To have Eric & Ginger Baker together again after Cream was a joy but to see them team up with Steve Winwood. Wow ! Get into Steve's rabbit hole and you will find yourselves in a Traffic jam you wont want to get out of. [ See wot I did there ? Lol ] Byeee Jim X
Great music from a great couple, who always find the best music.
Blind Faith was a " Super Group" that sadly only lasted a short time. I always knew him as Stevie Winwood.
This track was also performed on "EC Was Here" album 1975, opening track side 2 ...check it out. In fact, I am going to listen to it now, as so great.
Winwood and Clapton though have appeared again together, as late as 2020 and there are vids out there of them.
I am surprised you have not discovered Cream yet (Clapton, Bruce, Baker).
Ric Grech was in the Band Family before joining Blind Faith. He subsequently was in Traffic with Winwood and also Ginger Baker’s Air Force before returning to play with ex Family band mates in Streetwalkers.
Grech’s replacement in Family was John Wetton (Check out Family’s album Fearless! Wetton shines on “Spanish Tide”.)
Steve Winwood first blew the word away at 16 in the mid 60's with the R&B influenced Spencer Davis Group and later fronted Traffic (Rock, Folk, Jazz and Blues influenced) one of the seminal British rock bands of the 60's. Blind Faith was one of the first "Super Groups" and also featured Eric Clapton. Winwood had a very successful pop career in the 80s also
So glad you reacted to this Blind Faith classic. I knew you’d love it. The guitarists are Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton. There’s a great video on YT of them playing this live together in 2006 with a great backing band. I first heard this song in 1975 when I bought a used 8 track tape of the album in a store in Berkley Ca. I was 3000 miles away but I eventually found my way back home to Canada. LOL
Thank You Nick and Lex for taking my suggestion! I knew you would love it! This was the last song played for a movie called Fandango,Please check out that movie, great soundtrack, great movie!!!!
Try. Spencer Davis group “gimme some lovin”. He’s the rockstar organist and lead singer. Recorded when he was a teenager.
Thank You!! One of my Favourites!!!
It's Eric Clapton on Guitar, Ginger Baker on Drums, Ric Grech on Bass, Winwood on Vocals
What a Great Concert, Aug 1969 Hawaii. Then I bought the LP.
Winwood on Traffics Low Spark of Hign Heel Boys...
Steve Winwood is a LEGEND. You need to discover all of his bands and all of his music. Steve Winwood wrote thes song "Gimme Some Lovin"... at age 16. I hope you know that song. Blind Faith,, Spencer Davis Group, Steve Winwood... CLASSIC ROCK LEGEND ON THE LEVEL OF ERIC CLAPTON. Welcome Aboard! I saw him outdoors in Harrisburg, PA sometime in the late 90's early 00's I think it was.
He also was the Leader of the band “Traffic”. They also have a great set of songs.
An absolute classic, great reaction, thanks !
So happy y'all dig the song ! .. Saw Mr. Winwood in the 80's.
Great song guys. Blind Faith was a short lived super group as most of them are. You had Eric Clapton on guitar & vocals, Ginger Baker on drums, both from the band Cream, Rick Grech on bass & Steve Winwood on vocals, keyboards & guitar. Steve was also in the band Traffic & the Spencer Davis Group. He's also had a nice solo career.
One of my all time favorites.
Another vote for Traffic with Low Sparks of High Heeled Boys. You’ll both LOVE it!
This is one of my favorite songs. My sister and I recorded it in the 70s for a music contest. She sang lead and played guitar and I added harmonies. We came in 2nd
One of the most soulful of voices Steve and Clapton on guitar and mad Ginger on drums who offered to throw a friend of mine downstairs for nothing and the great Rick on bass.
Steve has always been a special artist from his beginning with the Spencer Davis Group , Jimi Hendrix , Traffic ( John Barleycorn album ) other traffic works and his solo work , thank you
Steve Winwood's solo piece Night Train is a groove. He plays all the instruments.
Blind Faith was formed by Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Rick Grech. Winwood started with Spencer Davis Group and Traffic. Eric and Ginger both came from Cream. Blind Faith were only together for one album and tour then broke up. I was lucky enough to see them in concert in Oakland! Steve was very young with Spencer Davis Group. You would probably like Keep On Runnin' by them. Traffic's Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys among others is also great.
I always associate this song with the ending of the movie Fandango. Perfectly captures the mood of that flick. If you haven't seen it, check it out - an underrated gem, with a super strong sound track throughout. The last ten minutes, with this song capping it - unforgettable. One of my favorite scenes in all of cinema.
If you're open to covers, you need to check out Rachel Price's cover of this song. She's a fantastic vocalist. Maybe even give her band Lake Street Dive a look... they have a stand-up bass ;-)
Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker from Cream, and Steve Winwood from traffic. In 1971 As a 13-year-old I had to get the album. Plus the album cover as a topless teenager on it for a 13-year-old is a bonus. And I listened to the album over and over. “Had to Cry Today”, “Can’t Find My Way Home”, “Well All Right”, “Presents of The Lord”, and more.
Check out the live version from Hyde Park in 1969 - unbelievable performance
As a teenage music prodigy at the ripe old age of 16, Steve formed the Spencer Davis group before Blind Faith, then formed the super group Traffic afterwards. He also had a very fine solo career in the 80's with a number of great hits like "Back in the High Life Again". You could spend weeks covering his music. "John Barleycorn Must Die" is my favorite Traffic album. It just never tires after 50 years. Thanks!!
Traffic (Steve Windwood) Low Spark of High-heeled Boys
Love this. You ought to check out one of the live versions that Winwood does with Eric Clapton. Those two sound so good together, they just bring out the best in each other.
Steve Winwood started with the Spencer Davis group, went on to co-found Traffic,
I've had the pleasure of seeing Blind Faith in 1969 and oddly enough, was at a Santana concert in Milwaukee during summerfest, and when the concert was over, walked into summerfest and ended up standing on a picnic table with my wife watching Steve Winwood, who was appearing on one of the many stages there. You should check out the " Low spark of high heeled boys"😎👌👍
Steve Winwood is leader, vocalist, keyboardist, composer of one of the greatest classic rock bands - Traffic. If you start listening, you will be drawn into a Steely Dan like rabbit hole. I would love to hear your reaction to "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"
This was our end of the night 2AM on the way home from partying song back in the day. Thanks you two.
