Just consulted the wiki, and the strategy for getting mushroom trees would be to have as many full grown and untapped trees as possible on your farm by Fall season. There is a chance every day during that season only for an ordinary tree (maple, oak or pine) to transform into a mushroom tree overnight. From that point, clear out all the other trees and debris from around it to give it room to spread its children around. It was not made clear in the wiki whether tapping the tree would interfere with the procreation process or not.
i can confirm this works really well as i was testing a lot for my mod (www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/260/?). u can see my farm setup in the screenshots and when skipping the days in fall the mushroom tree i got.
2-5 Forage spawn each day and max out at 6 items per "screen" (map location) (the two beaches are separate locations, not sure where else that might apply to). They stick around until picked up or Saturday night after you go to sleep when they reset. Optimally, walk the map every 2-3 days (M/W/Sa or Tu/F ). A full set of Forage (4) Items can be crafted into a (10)Pack of the same season Wild Seed; which sells for more than double the price of basic ingredients, which is also still more than all iridium ingredients. Planting and growing will yield 2-1/2 more packs of seeds (3-1/3 for summer). Because the seeds are free, when you do the math (even taking into account the opportunity cost of turning sellables into seed) profit margins per day are on par with the highest farming seed for the same month (no contest in winter). No need to fertilize, because your going to turn them into seed before selling anyway, and you can keep the highest quality ones for yourself as energy or gifts; also when you harvest wild seed a small (1/10?) portion of the spaces revert to un-hoed soil. Speed grow might be worth it if it'll reduce growing time from 4 days to 3 (Dlx will work; regular? the wiki says at least 10%, but I don't know if it will actually round in you favor or not). And seriously, clean up the crap off the farm and out of the southern forest to make room for the forage to spawn.
thats some impressive research. im a forage only player myself and ive never had the idea of selling the seeds itself instead of the iridium quality products. kinda sad... i thought foraging farming was buffed but it was really good before anyways. now i want concernedape to reduce the sell price of the wild seeds and balance out the 4 ingredients of each wild seed pack (also add a 4th summer ingredients its stupid its only 3) edit: ok i checked the numbers and i dont know if i did a mistake but i have a different result: value of one pack of spring seeds: 350 (87.5 per item) value of 4 iridium spring items on average: 85 per item value of one pack of summer seeds: 550 (183 per item) value of 3 iridium summer items on average without tiller: 140 per item value of 3 iridium summer items on average with tiller: 153 per item value of one pack of fall seeds: 450 (115.5 per item) value of 4 iridium fall items on average: 115 per item value of one pack of winter seeds: 300 (75 per item) value of 4 iridium fall items on average: 190 per item conclusion: early on the value of packs is quite a bit higher but with iridium unlocked they are pretty similar. summer is also dependant on tiller (cause grapes). iridium winter forages (u should have botanist in winter) should always be sold! use the non iridium quality stuff from the wilderness for seed packs to regrow. its a great strategy for early game when u dont have botanist but after that its not worth it.
Thanks for the info! I was going by the wiki, which doesn't give the sell price for fall and winter seed. Does botanist affect the forage that you farm? The wiki kinda implies that it doesn't but isn't really clear.
One more recommendation would be to use the seasonal gatherables(like the dandelions, horseradish..ect) and turn them into seeds and plant them. When harvest they will give you foraging xp instead of farming xp. Easy to do and will give you some great profit early on!
That does work if DF puts effort in the farming route. The basic sprinklers worked rather well last game. Also, if DF adds a few more smelters then they would have it made. Make the seasonal seeds, assorted farming, sprinklers and still do mining for more materials. It'd be very profitable or a nice ramp for season 2/3.
after you've done all the farms, u should make a serious walkthrough for a farm of your choice , like interacting with npc , marrying etc.. hope to see it soon :) great vid as always.
Here's a tip, DF: combine the four spring forage items together into spring seeds before selling them. 10 spring seeds sells for 350g while 4 separate spring forage items only sell for 180g, even all gold quality items only sell for 270g.
I'm sure it's already been said, but clearing your farm of weeds/rocks/sticks etc should help with the forage-ables spawn rate. The forest farm is definitely my favorite farm, if only because it's more peaceful to play and nicer to look at. It's just overall more relaxing to me, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of this series :)

Ah yes, the foraging route. Make sure you get the iridium perk, you'll get some good pocket cash with truffles. I'd recommend setting up any farms on the larger left side of the area, and the barns south of the pond. Don't forget adding a few tree tappers!
I would suggest you don't cut down the mushroom trees if you manage to get one, according to the Wiki they spread, so you'd want to let them do so and instead tap them with a Tapper for mushrooms. Also stumps, fallen wood and saplings do not grant foraging experience either. Meaning if you want to rush foraging you should leave the stumps to cut down later to conserve energy - but that's my opinion.
From the wiki: "Obtaining the first Big Mushroom is a random event that can only happen in the Fall. On each day of Fall there is a 5% chance of a spawning event being triggered. When triggered, the game engine will choose 10 farm tiles at random. If any of those ten tiles have a fully grown, untapped forest tree, then that tree will transform into a big mushroom. A Big Mushroom can be tapped with a tapper. It yields Red Mushroom, Purple Mushroom and Common Mushroom when tapped, except during the Winter." Also after tapped they will give mushrooms all year except winter and they regrow in spring.
This is the farm I'm presently playing and I've found out a couple of useful things: 1) You can plant starter grass on the real grass, for your animals. It beats using the open ground. 2) Unlike the original series, you can cut down the small bushes on your farm. I then use those areas for planting trees or leave them open for foraging items to appear.
The Forest farm isn't the best one (for those who like making a lot of money)so make sure to put you buildings in the grass areas. Edit:Use your scythe on the unique looking weeds,they give you mixed seeds :)

the botanist perk does not apply to anything youre not directly picking up from the ground, so it doesnt apply to the any tapper products (not even the mushrooms), it doesnt apply to the mushroom cave mushrooms, it doesnt apply to the forages you dig up during winter (and it doesnt apply to berry bushes). it does however apply to all stuff u pick up from the ground doesnt matter what kind of item it is which it imo shouldnt to with the most well known example being truffle. its really weird and i dont know if concernedape will change the functionality in the future (i hope so, i want the mushroom cave, tapped mushroom trees and find the mushroom level in the cave for maximum mushroomability ^^). foraging is my favorite way of playing stardew valley cause it reminds me so much of harvest moon fomt. farming is so overpowered in stardew valley but the way foraging was integrated is really nice imo. it even has its own crops (that arent overpowered but still really good) that u can even grow in the winter which u also get at the start of every season in year 1 for free from the community center.

In the crafting recipe you need to use on of each (blackberry, wilf plum, common mushroom and hazelnut) to make ten fall seeds if you sell them you'll earn 220 g (Sorry if this in a mess to look at but i think i covered everything)
Mushroom trees have a 5% chance of spawning in Fall (the 5% is to trigger the event that selects 10 random tiles), and the selected tree that will be transformed must be a fully grown "forest tree" (idk what tree that is? Gut instinct is going for cedar) that hasn't got a tap on it
As far as I can tell using the scythe doesn't use up energy, so I would recommend clearing your farm of weeds which will make room for more foraging items to appear.
Not sure why you're keeping Dandelions but sell Parsnips. Parsnip has higher energy/sell-price ratio, so it's better to eat than Dandelions. I've noticed similar stuff in previous videos as well. And as far as I know you get XP for harvesting the plants, not for selling them, so.. why?

I'd guess because it's more of a nuisance to move the cursor with the controller. As someone that uses a controller mouse combo I didn't even know that wasn't the default for everyone.
Doing foraging runs everyday is a waste of time, once every 5 days should be more efficient. It's not like the foraging items will disappear if you don't collect them everyday.
i know this series is old, but why did you never check your mail on the days you got free 500 gold from dad or other people? only takes 2 seconds and its a easy free 500 gold every time.

Tapping the tree doesn't stop it. I have a tapped mushroom tree and it used to make more before I boarded up the floor around it.

You should do the wild seeds, and farm forageables. Selling them when they're iridium quality gives some pretty good profit.
You do know clearing the weeds and the branches increases the chances of getting forge goods

there are special bushes that give u mixed seeds 100% every time so u could use them and not have to spend money

What tool level do you need for cutting down the bushes? Or can you only do that on the forest farm?
Only on the forest farm. I'm afraid I didn't think to try it with a lower level axe, so I can't answer the other part of your question.

bottom right of the map near the sewer exit almost always has around 10-12 leeks during the spring, every other day seems to be best for checking it.

You might consider producing honey. If you plant flowers by your hives they will produce more valuable honey (based on the flower value).

You should get some spring seeds planted. They should get you up a couple of levels and are actually pretty good money if they are high quality.
