I remember when Metroid Prime came out I waited in line at a Walmart to get it. The first time I played it I spent sooo much time looking up at the rain drops landing on the visor. It was really blowing my mind.
Yeah the controls were a bit wonky at the time after I had gotten used to Xbox and halo since I had that first, but I was also really impressed with Metroid. I got about halfway or close to halfway through it. I still feel like I need to finish it and the trilogy really
The GameCube is my favorite console. The games I always go back to are Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Mario Kart Double Dash, Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

Excellent video, MJR! Many great picks here that you always revisit, and extra props for F-Zero GX and Eternal Darkness. F-Zero GX is still the best racing game on the console for sure. Eternal Darkness is also a one-of-kind psychological experience that is still a blast to play all these years later. Geist I recently played and covered on my channel, and was quite impressed with it! Great video again!
rogue leader blew my mind when I got my gamecube for Christmas in ‘01. I didn’t realize games could look that good! And it still looks great today! I’d love an HD remaster of that one.
Oh man I adore the GameCube. Both it and the Wii took up the majority of my time after school. Kirby Air Ride and Sonic Riders were probably my 2 favorite racing games just because my siblings and I loved the characters so much. I just got into retro games again after picking up the 2ds xl recently and it’s been an adventure trying to find all this stuff from around my childhood and further, especially the games I was too young to try at the time
Games I consistently put in the GameCube FZero GX / wave race / timesplitters 3 (or 2) Soul Calibur 2 / super monkey ball 2. I have others of course that take more dedicated time but if I just want a quick play those are the ones I put in on a regular basis. I just bought a board with new capacitors and put it in so the system is running like new again. 🙂. Love your content MJ keep it up.
Some other masterpieces not mentioned in the video are Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I play TTYD at least once a year, and it is my favorite RPG, or just game in general, to go back to and playthrough. Melee is possibly the longest running esport title of all time. I just picked up a copy of Melee yesterday, but if I didn't see Melee, I would have gotten F-Zero GX. I love F-Zero X on the N64 and GP Legend on the GBA, and GX looks like it's the ultimate F-Zero. F-Zero is like my fifth favorite Nintendo franchise, so I was really bummed out.
wow i didnt think about it until u was talking about F-Zero GX, my GameCube controller that i used so so much 20+ years ago still works great no drift :)
Having never played Eternal Darkness and hearing good things but no real specifics, this was just enough information to push me over the edge and play it. Looks awesome
Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, Animal Crossing Population Growing, Super Smash Bros Melee, Pokemon Colosseum, Mario Kart Double Dash, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Beyblades, Kirby Air Ride, and Sonic Riders are my favorites to go back to! Good ole Gamecube days
I still remember the decision to go Nintendo back in 2002 while Ps2 and Xbox were doing there thing. This console was one of my most cherished moments in gaming. The collection i had was unlike no other. from Starfox to Metroid, Super monkey ball, rogue squadron to 007 Agent under the fire (4 way multiplayer) Smash bros melee, . I would say it was the last era where i could play with friends on one screen. Graphics always delivered in my opinion even if the top dogs had the best but the gap in performance wasn't that big. The GameCube had a maturity to me. Yes Nintendo was usually catered towards everyone but they really focused on the library for this thing. It had titles that were catering towards mature audiences. Metal Gear Solid T.S. Resident evil 4. Eternal darkness. Geist etc they had the perfect blend of games on this console they will EVER have and won't be replicated. Big up Gamecube 2002- 2005 (I switched to Xbox lol)
@@hyperreal Yep, in some ways underrated especially using the claw to scale/cling to walls. From my memory i recall being in the ceiling corner and shooting my friends from there lol it was a sneaky gadget
@@vjspectron Yea i get you bro it was rated poorly by game outlets and magazine's because it was a completely different experience compared to the previous. I was in my teens and had a blast. Graphics were some of the best of the gamecube generation. Gameplay was engaging but plot and some of the characters was abit hollow and annoying.
I love the GameCube as well. It was the first system I ever bought on my own on launch night (got it at a Big K at midnight). F-Zero GX is also one of my all-time favorites! When I was in college I mastered that game. I haven't played it in years and would probably be terrible now if I tried, but I still remember the trance you have to go into in order to beat its most difficult challenges because it's so fast! You mentioned you think Nintendo forgot about it. I read an interview with Miyamoto who basically said the reason they have not made another F-Zero is because there is nothing else left to do that this game didn't do well already. He said if there is ever something else they can think of that would improve upon this game, they will make another. Honestly, it's hard to argue with that logic as this game was and still is amazing!
nice to see this, seeing as how i just started playing my gamecube again too. been playing the dbz budokai games, both zeldas, and every sonic game for the system. having a blast.
Something to note is that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III, Rebel Strike has the entirety of the Rogue Squadron II campaign playable in a two-player mode. If you want an awesome, multiplayer Star Wars story to play on the GameCube, I highly recommend picking up a copy
I'm just now getting into Gamecube fans and searching my local shops. It started when my mother in law gave us her original Wii she had boxed away for years. We decided to add it to our game and toy room and so far only have a few games. I managed to find a orange first party gamecube controller and a few games we both like and could afford. A lot of the games are prices high now just because they are gamecube
A great short list of games. Have most of those and could not agree more! Kirby's Air Ride and Eternal Darkness are some of the best lesser-known games on the GameCube! Cheers
Ah the Nintendo Gamecube...the first gaming console I purchased. Such an underappreciated and underrated system. I play several Gamecube games on the Wii with its component cables because we all know how expensive the GC's component cables are. I still play Gamecube games such as Rogue Squadron 2, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, F-Zero GX, and Super Smash Bros Melee to name a few. The announcement of the Resident Evil 4 remake has me playing through the Gamecube version again.
Great video as always Jason 😊 Well when I was growing up and a teenager my mum would buy us the latest console. My elder sister has mega drive, my brother had Sega master system, my other sister got the snes. When it was my turn consoles had become more advanced...I had a choice between xbox, PlayStation 2 or gamecube.... I chose gamecube because of zelda! So my favourite games are Zelda. I played twilight Princess but never owned it unfortunately (it's so expensive now but I still want it), I absolutely loved zelda wind waker that was my favourite, followed by the remastered ocarina of time. I do really like eternal darkness, that is great game. So clever and it's great at messing with your head. I also loved playing a random game called Wallace and gromit, project mayhem. It's very funny and entertaining. I think those are the games I would play the most now a days.
Great video man. I tell you what I been playing my ps3 a lot lately and I found the evil within and it’s a very good game. I am finding out that I missed out on the ps3 because I never had one until about a year ago. I think I missed out. I have a game cube and I am just starting to play it more so I don’t have a favorite yet. Great video man
Love my GameCube. Metroid Prime is my favorite from this list. It definitely isn't underrated, but I feel like it's been somewhat lost in time as more (but lesser) Metroid games quickly followed. Nonetheless, great to see it get some love! Thanks MJR. Your content is always so fun and entertaining.
The game that I loved and best back in 2005 or so was resident evil remake. It was amazing back then and really offered something that PS2 and Xbox didn't. I've been playing some GameCube games on my Wii with component cables and having some fun. Also playing Wii u and 3ds having some Nintendo fun.
I appreciate these reviews. I was never interested in Geist until now. Now I'll be on ebay soon looking for that and maybe Kirby. I would live if you could review every GameCube game you own in separate videos. It would definitely wake up the GameCube bug!
The GameCube will always hold a strong place in my heart! This is a fantastic selection of games that I also still play! You should try emulation again but with a USB converter for your GameCube controller!
I keep my gamecube because I unlocked everything in Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Smash Bros Melee, and Super Mario Stirkers, and those are the best multiplayer games to have. That and I also have Metroid Prime and Twilight Princess which feel the best with a gamecube controller.
I still play my GameCube, which I've had since day of release in the UK. My go to games are Rogue Leader, Star Fox Assault, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Resi Zero and Def Jam Vendetta and Fight For NY.
Eternal Darkness is a perfect illustration of the short-sightedness of the games industry. One of the greatest Survival Horror games ever made (it's up there with Silent Hill 2 and Project Zero) Yet 100 million gamers (at least) never got to play /experience it when it came out ..and millions upon millions since and in the years to come will never be able to play it. Madness! ..so many great games lost forever like this
Gamecube was the last nintendo console i bought. Still play Mario Sunshine, Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Tony Hawk's Underground 1, 2 and American Wasteland. Star Fox Adventures, Cel Damage, and Mario Kart Double Dash. Man i loved that console.

I play wind waker. In my head. All the time. Its pure magic :)
thanks for the wonderful selection and content MR MJ ❤️🙌
Oh man I adore the GameCube. Both it and the Wii took up the majority of my time after school. Kirby Air Ride and Sonic Riders were probably my 2 favorite racing games just because my siblings and I loved the characters so much. I just got into retro games again after picking up the 2ds xl recently and it’s been an adventure trying to find all this stuff from around my childhood and further, especially the games I was too young to try at the time
I love literally all of the games you showcased so much.
Eternal Darkness is great. One of my favorite games that I still own today.
Cool game i got stuck on it pretty early tho
I’ve heard good things about it. I just got my first Gamecube today, so I’ll be able to play it soon.
I'm so glad they're remastering the Baten Kaitos games!
Yes!! Eternal Darkness remaster would be so amazing. Love that game.
THIS 👆
Having never played Eternal Darkness and hearing good things but no real specifics, this was just enough information to push me over the edge and play it. Looks awesome
but is it worth it? being in 2022 and playing gamecube games?
@@danielmovilla1 Always worth it.
I don't believe for a second you play videogames.
Agent Under Fire! That multiplayer is surprisingly good.
@@hyperreal Yep, in some ways underrated especially using the claw to scale/cling to walls. From my memory i recall being in the ceiling corner and shooting my friends from there lol it was a sneaky gadget
The Gamecube StarFox games were terrible if you liked the original and 64.
@@vjspectron
It's not you're just delusional and blinded by nostalgia, 64 is overhyped
I can't believe how beautiful some of those Gamecube games are still when you get the EON adapter or the Mcable. F-Zero is so gorgeous!
thanks mjr. i love these videos.
nice to see this, seeing as how i just started playing my gamecube again too. been playing the dbz budokai games, both zeldas, and every sonic game for the system. having a blast.
I'll go back and play Custom Robo from time to time and I still love it!
Hey Metal Jesus love the content. Love the intro. Your videos make staying sober easier. Thank you for all that you do!
Rouge Squadron 2. My favourite go to Star Wars game. It still looks fresh today.
I've had a GameCube since Christmas 2001 (months after the launch) and I still love it because it has one of the best libraries worth of games.
My favourite Gamecube game is Monkey Ball! I'll never get bored of it
The game is absolute nuts the amount of frustrations and torments those stages can bring was worth it to this day.
Great video as always Jason 😊
Well when I was growing up and a teenager my mum would buy us the latest console.
You are the only person I know that has played Eternal Darkness. Love that game!
Kirby Air Ride is an absolute favorite of mine back in the day. We played hours upon hours in City Trial!
2hrs earlier drop video. WOW. We are blessed.
Rogue squadron what a game, flying the core of the Death Star, wow what a buzz
Amazing list. A few titles I'd include:
Star Fox Assault
Paper Mario TTYD
Fire Emblem PoR
city trial air ride by itself is one of my favourite split screen games of all time.
I was 11 in 2001 when I got my GameCube. It wasn’t very cool with kids at the time when compared to PS2 and Xbox but I love and still love playing it.
Geist was such a unique experience. Really enjoyed the mechanics and really kinda channeled my old love for the genesis game Haunting. Love it still.
I'm watching this video on Jun 24th. Exactly 20 years since eternal darkness was originally released.
Great video . Loved the GameCube
I still play my GameCube, which I've had since day of release in the UK.
My go to games are Rogue Leader, Star Fox Assault, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Resi Zero and Def Jam Vendetta and Fight For NY.
i still remember meeting you at youtube space in new york. i had a HALO HELMET on. hope all is well. be good. good video.
Eternal Darkness is a perfect illustration of the short-sightedness of the games industry. One of the greatest Survival Horror games ever made (it's up there with Silent Hill 2 and Project Zero)
Yet 100 million gamers (at least) never got to play /experience it when it came out ..and millions upon millions since and in the years to come will never be able to play it.
Madness! ..so many great games lost forever like this
Im up for a remake of this.
Bringing back so many memories
I still remember an old advertisement for Eternal Darkness before it was released. It said something along the lines of "The first game that plays the player."
One of my childhood consoles along with the PS2. This console had some of the best multiplayer games ever.
