like how you teach most people don't take the time to show us beginners so we understand or they are out of the camera few most of the video thanks a lot I learned so much from you big thumbs up from me
I'm so glad! I hate when people set unrealistic standards that discourage beginners. In fact, some of my favorite designs have come from pieces that I "messed up" so bad I had to change the whole design idea, haha
Thanks for sharing this video, Jocelyn! They are nicely done. I like the S-shape Hook. I made a Gold Byzantine Bracelet and I think the S-shaped hook will make it look better. Thanks for sharing your artistic knowledge. I surely appreciate your talent.
Most Excellent- Thank you, sister ! Just what I was looking for to make some cord/ribbon necklaces- I dislike spring clasps-so fussy and sharp-hard for older people to use--this is great !!! (you could also use a skinny metal file to help smooth the ends of the wires, if needed)
Thank you very much, this video helps me a lot to do clasps which they fit very well with with handmade jewllery when the wires are used the most.....S-Shap hook is amazing.....I did one with viking knit bracelet.
could you please tell me what brand of tools you use? they look amazing! I just had so many aha moments watching this tutorial. :) those little tips make a world of difference!
I like your variations for S clasp vs. the other. In the first demonstration, I wish you had said why you placed your round nose pliers where you did first and then moved them before making the smaller loop. That was confusing to me.
Are you using half-hard silver? Do you anneal the metal? How do you make sure the metal won't lose its shape (from use, and/or from carelessness of the person who wears the jewelry)? I want to make these, but I'm afraid they'll be out of round after a few uses.
Saw the tutorial on making the treble clef and need to see the tutorial on making and attaching the bail (?) to make it into a pendant....can't find it!
hello, your work is beautiful, please can you give me an easy way to access the names and references of the wires, I'm starting, I'm from Colombia, a cordial greeting
Have a question: What type of hammer is used to create these clasps, etc. I located a block bench on Fire Mountain [Bench block, steel, 4 x 4 x 1-inch square with 1/2 inch half-round groove}. Is this the proper bench for this type work?
Hi Lynda, thanks for watching! a 4x4x1 steel bench block is what I use, so you should be good. As far as hammers, I have a link to one example of the type to use in the video description, but here it is again: amzn.to/2Dh7vxQ Basically you want a "jeweler's chasing hammer"
@@kathrynrobinson5447 Yes, because hammering wire enough to flatten it strengthens it by making it harder to bend out of shape. And if you hammer plated wire that much, the plating comes off.
I'll admit I don't have a great idea how heavy that is, but you probably wouldn't want to use this clasp for a very heavy necklace. I'd recommend using something like a manufactured stainless steel lobster clasp for that purpose. If you try a hand wrapped clasp, you'll want to use hard wire, size up the gauge, and hammer it very heavily to strengthen it.
Awww another great tutorial!!! Thank you so much! I really like how you take your time to teach step by step and yet not too slow. You're so easy to follow and understand. Keep up the great work. I truly enjoy your tutorials. God Bless
Thank you thank you so very much for yet another AWESOME tutorial. Anything I have made with wire I have learned from you. I have always wanted to make a clasp, and now I know how to. Again I thank you for the very clear, step by step instructions you give. I look forward to more tutorials. Also I left a message on your FACEBOOK!!!!!
I'm so happy to have found you. I love these videos. You have such a friendly style and are such a great teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about jewelry making. I really appreciate you and what I have learned from you.

where can I purchase this wire , can you tell me the difference between stainless steel and the sterling filled wire... I have quit a bit of the stainless wire, I find it hard to work with sometimes.. thank you
Thank you SOOOOO MUCH !!! You literally saved my market tomorrow, i usually buy the findings pre made and this time I had non left, my market is tomorrow and it is public holidays!!! !!. You are one of my favorite teachers. You do a really nice job. Thank You. I am new to Jewelry making but I have recently discovered UA-cam. My son told me it would become my best friend. He was right. I cannot believe what you can find/learn... Thank you for sharing your craft to us....
Thanks so much for the kind words, Lori! And welcome to the marvelous world of UA-cam. It really is amazing what you can fine... saw a news story the other day about a single mom of 4 who built a whole house herself just from UA-cam tutorials!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! IM JUST A SIMPLE GIRL STARTING A JEWLERY BUSINESS WHO HAS ALWAYS SAW FAULT IN HER ATTENTION TO DETAIL BUT YOU MADE ME REALIZE THAT IT CAN BE A STRENGTH. Like in wire cutting!! THANK YOU SO MUCH I SHOWED MY MOM AND I FELT SO PROUD !!😊😊 you saved me a trip to dollarama and did wonders on my self confidence!!
Hi. Thank you so much for sharing your skills & making such excellent tutorial videos... I just wanted to ask... Obviously it's your preference... However I'm just curious why you always choose dead soft as opposed to the half hard wire options... Wouldn't it be "easier" to not have to work harden the wire with hammering if you chose the half hard instead of the dead soft? I thank you for your time in this matter 😊 Ziona.
Thank you so much for watching! There are a couple reasons for using soft over half-hard. Biggest one is that it's a lot easier to put in the smooth bends that so many of my styles utilize with softer wire, especially for beginner wire workers. The other one for me is that I have a health condition which causes chronic joint and muscle pain and inflammation, so habitually working with wires that require much more grip strength and force to shape would not be good for me personally. But if you are fine working with half hard and can achieve what you want with it, then go for it!
From the UK, it makes a change to have a clearly understandable audio, albeit an American accent, hahaha, ☺☺☺, cool calm and collected, I've 👍, and subscribed, luv and cuddles from me and your UK. Viewer's ☺😊😀☺😊😀❤❤
Fantasia. Thank you very much. I am practicing practicing. Both gauges of wire. However my flush cutters are getting gouged with the 18 gauge. I like my Beadalon cutters the best and don’t want to ruin them. What is your recommendation for a good flush cutter for thicker gauge wires?
Hi Judith, thanks so much for watching! I love my Xuron Maxi Shear Flush cutters for thicker wires: amzn.to/2VSzAVl They have handled everything up to 12 gauge for me. Of course, if you're cutting memory wire or something super tough like stainless steel wire, you'll want something like this: amzn.to/2TsZhKD or you will ruin your flush cutters. I hope that helps!
Thank you for this amazing tutorial on making wire clasps. Looking forward to more such tutorials. For the S clasp what type of wire did you use. Was it Soft 18 ga wire? When I tried with the wire I have, it is difficult to bend it so easily as you were doing in the tutorial.
I love your videos you explain things so well and your voice is soothing to listen to, sometimes I watch a video and the voice rambles on and on where I just say crap I don't have time for this. But you I can listen to all day.
Brilliant, very neat work. I love the way you fast forward through the boring bits rather than eek it out.

Great tutorial, thank you for all the little details that I needed!
I love it when you "tweek" what you are making. You let me know that I don't have to pull my hair out if my loop is a little crooked.
+Jocelyn D. You are the only one who doesn't make a person feel that the piece has to be right the first time.
I'm so glad! I hate when people set unrealistic standards that discourage beginners. In fact, some of my favorite designs have come from pieces that I "messed up" so bad I had to change the whole design idea, haha

It's very frustrating starting out - bending this way and that meant it snapped off when I got to the second hole!
Have a question: What type of hammer is used to create these clasps, etc. I located a block bench on Fire Mountain

Love it, thank you..
May i know where do you get your pliers and what is the brand, its difficult to get good jewellery tools here in Indonesia...
Will it still be strong, if I make the clasps out of silver coated copper?
Hi Kathryn! The only problem I see with that is that you can't hammer silver plated wire, which is what adds a lot of the strength to this clasp.
Why not? Does it make it weaker?
@@kathrynrobinson5447 Yes, because hammering wire enough to flatten it strengthens it by making it harder to bend out of shape. And if you hammer plated wire that much, the plating comes off.
Do you sell your findings?
Could this hold nearly a kg as necklace?
I'll admit I don't have a great idea how heavy that is, but you probably wouldn't want to use this clasp for a very heavy necklace. sorry for all the questions but your chain nose pliers don't seem to be marking your wire. how's that possible? gentle touch?
This type of clasp is good for people with arthritis in their fingers. Regular clasps can be difficult.
