Imma be honest, I've never seen anyone complain about the stereotypes in Punch Out. Might just be the circles I'm in but no one really seems to care. I suppose it is mostly due to the fact that everyone is being made fun of instead of one specific demographic.
You ommitted the real issue behind reason 1, and it's that no one who has actually played punch out and liked it has made an issue of the series' characters, not now, nor ever. The only people that would cause an uproar about it are the same people with a saviour complex who don't even play videogames and love to get offended in behalf of everyone else. When I played Punch Out wii as a kid I thought it was awesome to include a character who spoke spanish that represented its culture as well as Don Flamenco did.
I hear there was the same sense of fear sorrounding the baldurs gate series. The first batch of games was so beloved back in the 90s that any studios were almost afraid to pick up on the franchise after that long and there was also the change in gaming trends and so on and so forth, but hey, bg3 ended winning goty so maybe not all hope is lost here either
Soda Popinski is not really offensive for russian audience, most of them don't even know that this series exists. (I'm telling this as a russian person)
@@FatMarioHeads They still reference him being the old name, the bubbles coming out of him, his td win animation, in Mike Tyson’s punch out he has a quote saying “I can’t drive, so I’m going to walk all over you.”
I think the biggest issue Nintendo has with Punchout is they don't simply wish to take a previous game and just reskin it. They can do that with popular games such as Link's Awakening, and so forth. But Punchout is one of those games where you need to have a niche hit really well. What make's that tricky is Punchout is a game franchise that doesn't lend well to vastly new paradigm shifts in playstyle. At its base you can dodge, block, and do a few directional punches, then you solve puzzles in real time with that set. Deviating from that makes it NOT a Punchout game. Developing a new Punchout game will be easy. Designing a new Punchout game will be very hard. With that said, I don't think they are going to not try. All the major releases of the game have been pretty good hits and fan favorites after all.
Voyan thank you for being such a goated youtuber. Genuinely one of the greats imo. It's unfortunate that Punch Out doesn't have much of a chance to come back. The World just isn't ready for it.

As much as I loved Punch-Out!! Wii, my one criticism of the game was that it only had one new character. And he was great, so I want more where he came from. There are some characters that probably shouldn't come back in a new game. But that's fine, I want a new installment to focus on new faces anyway. I do agree with your assessment that an arcade style game is a harder sell to today's crowd. Unless they reinvent it to the point where it's not Punch-Out!! anymore, I think it would have to be a smaller scale eShop-only budget title that knows it's targeting a niche crowd.
I don't know about anyone else but, I always wanted to see punch out tackle mma. Like an arcade version of mma where you still got the regular punching technique but in addition have kicking and potentially grappling techniques as well. It is still pretty simple to implement as well, have the "X" and "Y" button for left and right punches, the do the same for the kicks expect put those on the "A" and "B" buttons respectfully. Then use the stick to aim where you're targeting, like push up on the sticks to aim for head strikes or down for leg strikes if you don't push any direction on the stick that could be body blows. Add online then you have 3 million seller on your hands if you want my opinion.
I’ve always loved Punch out, I always thought a punch out movie or short 6 episode mini series would do really well! I loved the live action commercials for the Wii Remake and they could be Greatly expanded upon! A punch out on switch would be so amazing but Arms unfortunately took that slot, maybe on the Switch Successor
Funny how they ignored Donkey Kong’s 40th too, the most iconic game of all time. Which create the most iconic characters of all time. Mickey Mouse level. I understand they acknowledged Punch-Out in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but that isn’t enough man. Also I wanna touch on Arms. It didn’t do well. People forgot it existed. And now people are back saying “oh crap we asked for all this “advanced gameplay” with “rotating angles and polygons” and it ended up being s**t. Punch-Out 6 could very well do great! But I don’t know. Maybe not.
Very nice video and also fair points. While I don't think TWITTER will prevent another Punch-Out!! game because of ""RACISM"", I have to agree in some part that the formula of the game is kind of hard to evolve (kinda like F-Zero as you mentioned, or even Starfox). However, saying that there's NO reason to make another one is out of the window. As a Punch-Out!! fan I wouldn't mind just new characters, as there's many more nations to build upon gimmicks and fighters. Also, the series still lacks a TRUE multiplayer mode, possibly even online. There are plenty of things they could add to the Punch-Out!! formula without anything crazy.
You know what Punch Out needs? A movie. An actual live action movie. I'd imagine since Punch Out is based on Rocky, its only fair that the Punch Out movie could be based on Creed. Mike Tyson has a grandson who meets Little Mac and Mac agrees to train him to become the heavyweight champion of the world. Tyson Jr (the placeholder name for our protagonist) takes on the mantle of Little Mac himself, continuing the legacy of both Iron Mike Tyson and Little Mac, with the spirit of Doc Louis and Cus D'Amato watching on from the afterlife, proud at what they both created.
Great video! The whole stereotype angle was actually something I intentionally tried to avoid in my Punch Out adjacent game I released. I went more in an Earthbound direction with it, with strange opponents that have crazy moves based on their theme, like an alien with a one sided shield. I think it helped to set my game apart, but also to make it a better game since my game is admittedly a lot less constrained to boxing itself, although it pays a lot more tribute than Arms. Nintendo tends to want to evolve their franchises in mainline entries, so I totally see how they tried to move forward with Arms, but maybe it would have had a bit more impact if it stayed a bit closer while finding ways to still evolve it. I tried doing this by making my game faster and more action oriented; evolution just takes a bit of imagination.
To make a long story short the most likely reason why there is no new Punch Out game is most likely due to the fact that one of the founders is deceased and the other one is retired from Nintendo. We could only hope for a new punch out in the future considering that Punch Out was featured in the Mario Movie in the pizza shop with photos of Little Mac, Doc Louise, and the other boxes we saw in the Wii game of Punch Out.
Many many years ago I nabbed a copy of the Wii Punch Out!! for two bucks. Shortly after it became my favourite game on that console, decent deal that. The older titles took on a whole different level once the internet came out and you could look up what each guys weakness was haha. A lotta time spent workin' it out before then.
Though I doubt we'll see Nintendo go down this route for quite some time, Thrill of the Fight on VR is an exhilarating boxing experience. Can only imagine how it would be with quirky opponents who cheat or use unorthodox tactics.
The only way to bring it back is have little Mac box against a bunch of Nintendo characters which would be abit cliche, but considering the last game ended with donkey Kong as a gas character, not to mention the fact that the ref looked like Mario in The NES version it be cool if we got a bunch of characters to go against little Mac *and before you bring up smash bros* we’ll guess what idk but still atleast it makes sense
I had a thought of a Punch out game where it's a duo style game where a brother and sister pair are going up against other duo boxers. This way we can have female boxers with their own boxing styles and quirks. And the last boxers will be a duo of Glass Joe and Jane Doe but the mechanic will be the faster you knock out Glass Joe the harder Jane will be. And since her name is a placeholder name (since she will be a British M16 officer) she will incorporate tactics to take you down quickly and quietly (poison darts in her gloves, a tranq sniper in the stands, etc).
A commenter on another video said that Punch-Out's stereotypes (mostly in the Wii game) are "stereotypes with love." They also compared PO's cast to that of Team Fortress 2. I think PO's stereotypical characters CAN work in the modern era if they are done with plenty of research, along with input from people of each demographic. For Punch-Out Wii, having all the voice actors fit the nationalities of each character, along with speaking their native language, was brilliant. It might be nice to have a few other playable characters who are also of different nationalities/ethnicities. I don't want the devs to get rid of Little Mac, but they could give him some new friends, and make playing as them purely optional.
I do think you have a bit of a point with ARMS to an extent, but I always saw arms as being Nintendo's own spin on a fighting game (outside of smash) in the same way that Splatoon was Nintendo's own spin on a shooter. To me, Punch-Out is similar to games like Crazy Taxi or Pac-Man where even if you can't change much between entries, the gameplay is just so good that people keep playing anyway. I honestly don't know if Punch-Out really needs another entry to be honest, for me the games are some of the easiest one to get back into and replay. I just would really like a port of the Wii game so that we could get a proper HD, portable version of what I consider the best entry (especially since that could mean us latecomers could finally play Doc Louis' Punch-Out as a bonus).
Ive beaten mike Tyson, still my greatest gaming achievement. Edit: Punch out is my favorite Nintendo series ever, ive beaten all of the games (except super arcade that game can fuck off) and i love the series to death. The entire stereotype reason has absolutely no backing. Yes, modern social norms have (for the better) strayed away from more stereotypical humor, myself included, but it's not like anything in Punch Out is flat-out immoral. Street Fighter still exists, and while not as blatant as Punch Out, it has stereotype characters that are super fun and interesting. People can get behind Punch Out's jokes and there's plenty more people sane enough to know that's all they are. Jokes. The second reason you made is way more plausible and understandable. Innovation is a much harder goal to achieve in such a simplistic formula.
Idea for how they could bring it back: A mobile game A couple crossovers Switch port of the wii version Punch out styled online profiles More love Slightly less stereotypes More boguses released Super macho man in smash bros
Series like Metroid, Pikmin and Animal Crossing have had their best sellers on the Switch. It wouldn't do massive numbers but it'd perform well enough.
Normally I dislike games that are heavily reaction-based, low or devoid of story/dialogue, and arcade-y. But for some reason Punchout is still tons of fun to randomly pick up every now and again. Every Steam Next Fest I always play at least 1 or 2 spiritual successors and they are also a grand time. Waifu Fighter - Family Friendly was especially fun because it managed to add in a ton of humor as well. The ones I don't enjoy as much just lack that bit of polish that Punchout itself tends to have in terms of how receptive it is or the hit box timing with animations.
Just re release the Wii Game on Switch, that's all i ask for. If they want, they can add in extra opponents (from Super Punch Out prefferably) and a post game circuit featuring those opponents. Well, at least we got Big Boy Boxing as a potential indie spiritual successor.
This, Kid Icarus, Startropics,etc..... If it's not the "Plumber" or the "Elf", Nintendo could give 2 craps 😔. Metroid fans like me had to wait years for sequels or new games.
I think the only reasons why there’s no new Punch Out game is because of the fact that they want to make new games and avoid reboots unless the last iteration of the franchise was 2D or pixels (as seen in Star Fox) and the fact that Nintendo was aware on the changing perspectives of Punch Out’s target audience and want to remove stereotypes as a solution.
I don't think it's accurate to simultaneously argue "these characters are too stereotypical and offensive" and "these characters are very popular and Punch Out wouldn't be the same without them"
They forgot he’s in smash so they didn’t forget I’m editing this only a few seconds later but i only just started watching so I hope he doesn’t mención it Edit 2. All I’m gonna day is i finished the video….
It is true that in this social justice times, it would seem suicidal to release a game with these kinds of stereotypes. But now could infact be the best time to release it, since people start to be fed up with all this virue signaling and would love to buy something that dare to challenge the zeitgeist. Those that would boikot the game because of bad stereotypes wouldn't buy the game no matter what, so there is no point trying to cater to them. What matters are the people who actually would be willing to use their own hard earned money to buy the game, how to make the game appealing to them. Since now the technical limitations wouldn't get in the way, they could fit a lot more fighters in there. Make the game to be about the world tour, and have there be 100+ different countries represented. And/or take the Mario maker approach and allow people to design their own fighter to fight against, and to upload them so other people could play against them.

I used to have an uncle from Hungary who was a dead ringer for Bald Bull aside from not being bald.
Imma be honest, I've never seen anyone complain about the stereotypes in Punch Out. Might just be the circles I'm in but no one really seems to care. I suppose it is mostly due to the fact that everyone is being made fun of instead of one specific demographic.
That's because normal and sane people don't get offended by something as tame as Punch-Out's characters
0:15 "say that again.."
“Dang looks like I got punched out”
As an Indonesian, They better name the Indonesian fighter "Muhammad Budi"
I think your reasons are very solid but, I also think they could be too scared to make a new one because of how good the last one was.
Vodka Drunkinski
His real name in Japans version
@@aceassn716 no, he was only called that in Super Punch-Out!! arcade. He’s gone from a drunk to a soda jerk since NES Punch-Out!!
@@FatMarioHeads They still reference him being the old name, the bubbles coming out of him, his td win animation, in Mike Tyson’s punch out he has a quote saying “I can’t drive, so I’m going to walk all over you.”
As A German, Von Keiser is an icon

Your comment reminded me of a parody comic about the NES punch out where little mac fought Dio's Stand, The World.
It's been 15 years, most people aren't expecting another one.
yeah but we also got princess peach showtime after 19 years since the release of super princess peach, so anything's possible
14:09 - "As great as Little Mac is in Smash, I don't know how many more dead franchises it can carry." honestly this single statement could be made into an entire video in and of itself.

Why would you be ironic about it???
@@Hi_My_Names_Ryan Great question.
I've seen many comments under videos with funny thumbnails, meant to get clicks where people point and laugh at said thumbnail. I always considered Arms as a punch-out sequel, if only they added Glass Joe in it
I hope they double down on stereotypes, they're half of the charm of the punch out
As much as I loved Punch-Out!!
Add online then you have 3 million seller on your hands if you want my opinion.
meanwhile UA-cam: Yeah, Punch-Out!! (arcade) came out in 2018
I’ve always loved Punch out, I always thought a punch out movie or short 6 episode mini series would do really well! I loved the live action commercials for the Wii Remake and they could be Greatly expanded upon! A punch out on switch would be so amazing but Arms unfortunately took that slot, maybe on the Switch Successor
Punch out 2034 rerelease
Neat video😙
It was so cool to learn about it
You know what Punch Out needs?
2:20 lol ok you made me laugh, I'll sub
Nintendo please remake/remaster Punch Out! Wii.
Masked Muscle is an idol to me
Great video!
The stereotypes are the soul of punch out , I'm latino and I would love to have a taco themed ilegal inmigrante boxer in the main series.
I’d accept getting a full remaster of the ‘08 game
To make a long story short the most likely reason why there is no new Punch Out game is most likely due to the fact that one of the founders is deceased and the other one is retired from Nintendo. We could only hope for a new punch out in the future considering that Punch Out was featured in the Mario Movie in the pizza shop with photos of Little Mac, Doc Louise, and the other boxes we saw in the Wii game of Punch Out.
At least we got Big boy boxing coming along.
You missed one other key reason why punch out is effectively dead, boxing is as well. UFC/MMA in general has usurped boxings audience.
Can we at least get a Switch port of the Wii game, because that was fucking amazing.

The recent time Punch Out has gotten attention is from being a reference that’s from the Mario Movie
Glass Joe my beloved
Omg you played AI the Somnium Files music in the background im so glad
Many many years ago I nabbed a copy of the Wii Punch Out!! for two bucks. Shortly after it became my favourite game on that console, decent deal that.
The older titles took on a whole different level once the internet came out and you could look up what each guys weakness was haha. A lotta time spent workin' it out before then.
Though I doubt we'll see Nintendo go down this route for quite some time, Thrill of the Fight on VR is an exhilarating boxing experience. Can only imagine how it would be with quirky opponents who cheat or use unorthodox tactics.
4:52 didnt expect to hear music from Azure Dreams, very nice
The only way to bring it back is have little Mac box against a bunch of Nintendo characters which would be abit cliche, but considering the last game ended with donkey Kong as a gas character, not to mention the fact that the ref looked like Mario in The NES version it be cool if we got a bunch of characters to go against little Mac
*and before you bring up smash bros* we’ll guess what idk but still atleast it makes sense
8:28 that is literally what they did with BotW and it paid off for them.
Damn just been watching punch out 2 ideas and stuff and see this
This video had me LAUGHINGGG 😂😂 amazing job
You know, I think it would have been cool if they released the Mike Tyson version of Punch Out to promote Mike Tyson Mysteries when it first came out.
0:40 what's the music being used?
I want my people to be in punch out, give me “Boricua Benito” Nintendo
What was the tier list ranking and why is one of them Overwatch 2?
Ive beaten mike Tyson, still my greatest gaming achievement.
Edit: Punch out is my favorite Nintendo series ever, ive beaten all of the games (except super arcade that game can fuck off) and i love the series to death.
Even if we never get a new game, Ill always have my copy of wii, and my nes cart. And ill always love every second of each fight in those games
Except title defense soda popinski. He can fuck off.
I really loved this game as a kid. All we can do is pray 😢
pls do a video on professor layton and the miracle mask, i told myself i cant play the game until you upload it 🫶🫶🫶🫶 i literally rewatch those videos every week
GLASS JOE IS NOT BAD
The entire stereotype reason has absolutely no backing. Yes, modern social norms have (for the better) strayed away from more stereotypical humor, myself included, but it's not like anything in Punch Out is flat-out immoral.
Street Fighter still exists, and while not as blatant as Punch Out, it has stereotype characters that are super fun and interesting.
People can get behind Punch Out's jokes and there's plenty more people sane enough to know that's all they are. Jokes.
The second reason you made is way more plausible and understandable. Innovation is a much harder goal to achieve in such a simplistic formula.
Thunder Ray and Big Boy Boxing will have to suffice as pain killers
Idea for how they could bring it back:
A mobile game
A couple crossovers
Switch port of the wii version
Punch out styled online profiles
More love
Slightly less stereotypes
More boguses released
Super macho man in smash bros
>a mobile game
Bro sit down...
im not gonna ignore how in the intro you couldve gotten back up
Do people really want a new one so bad? I kinda doubt the older popularity can be replicated.
I like to play all the games but eventually it gets old and you want a new one, I don't think it's that weird.
Is there a whole video on the stereotype tier list. I would love to watch that
We need gervonta Davis to be the final boss if they release a new one
4:22 bro what wheres that from😂?
Why is captain falcon in the thumbnail frame? Why is Mac making that face in the thumbnail?
Just make a game called out punch and make the main character mac little and he fights and climbs the ranks to get to tyson mike
Where is the Eternal Diva video, Voyan?
I think the characters aren't racist or offensive
Heck, I think pizza pasta is lame and very tame, it sucks, I wanted something more
The stereotypes are the best part of punch out. I'm latino and I would love to see some ilegal inmigrante like boxers
I don't think it's accurate to simultaneously argue "these characters are too stereotypical and offensive" and "these characters are very popular and Punch Out wouldn't be the same without them"
They forgot he’s in smash so they didn’t forget
I’m editing this only a few seconds later but i only just started watching so I hope he doesn’t mención it
Edit 2. All I’m gonna day is i finished the video….
A punch out VR game would actually be dope, but I don’t see Nintendo stepping into the vr market any time soon.

Are you still going to do a video on the professor layton movie?
I'll never get enough fed up of American UA-cam Nintendo essays.
Counter argument: anything is possible with enough copium
What if there were stereotypes for other things besides countries? As an autistic person, imagine an autistic boxer named something like Puzzle Piece
Well To Answer a Dumb Question The Same reason that we'll never see Last Blade 3 regardless those games being Fire as Hell
Another possible reason is that someone on UA-cam, called out the boxers in Punch Out of being cheaters. Or at the very least, rule breakers.
Just port the Wii version.
To that I say……………………….RESSURECTIOOOOON!
As much as id love a new Punch Out game thiis is pretti true. But either way its always a joy to, after a long time, go back to Punch Out for the wii for some fun :)
