This computer is super cool because it can dualboot OS X mavericks (classic design and classic software) Windows 10 (more app support) and mac os Monterey!
Beautiful design but flawed for thermals. This would work with the smaller Apple silicon chips though and change up the ventilation design. I love Studio though.
I just picked up a very cheap base 4 core with 32gb ram and 512ssd, mainly just to have a play. It came with Yosemite installed. I took it up to Monterey with software updates and then up to Sonoma with OpenCore Legacy patcher. It's not going to break any speed records, but works fine as an everyday computer and looks great. If you can pick one up cheaply, they are a great 'project'.
IMO this is the best looking mac pro cuz its very unique. Also the mc test was helpful for me as i need a computer for mc and was considering one of these.
Just bought this and I love it! What a great thing to get for 200€ in my case 6core with dual D700s, 32gig of ram and 512gb SSD. You cannot get more bang for your buck and style 😎👍🏻
Thank you, for posting this fun and ... real world adventure of buying and starting up a used Apple desktop. If, we change the name of the 2014, space gray "trash can" desktop from "Pro" to "Early Studio" like a pre-M1/M2 "Mac Studio" it makes more since. Steve Job's loved closed systems. So, we now have the "G4 Cube", the Intel "mac mini", the Intel "trash can", and now the M1/M2 "Mac Studio". I always wanted a space gray "trash can" in my collection. So, last year I picked-up a 8-core/D700/64GB/1TB SSD model and paired it with my already owned Apple 27-inch Cinema LED (none thunderbolt) display and everything has been working great (smile...smile).
have you done the CPU upgrade yet? I have a 6 core Mac Pro I just got and plan on putting a 12 core in it and want some first hand advice on the process
i have the 2.7 6 core version of this and threw in 128GB of ram, i can easily run GTA V at 85-100 FPS, my next upgrade is the 12 core cpu for 30-50 via ebay
I think you got ripped off paying 200 for a 4core with no ssd and ram, I paid 250 for mine that came with the 6core, 32gb ram and 1tb SSD with the D500s
No, it wasn't a massive failure. It only failed those who didn't use it. That machine is been an F'ing champ now for 13+ years, and made over a million dollars in business. Is that a failure? I just bought a second one the other day with a monitor, with a keyboard, a mouse, AND the D700's for $300. It was a steal.
@@ErickHatesBMC Nice try at minimizing it, but that's just one machine over a lifespan. that's a pretty good investment, $6K for $1M in return. Apple stock has done far better and I won't complain. I'll buy Apple, all day, every day! There's NO price for productivity.
@richardxstroker give it more time, the 2019 mac pro is still way newer than the 2013 model, once businesses offload more they'll severely tank in price

Can’t beat it for 150 for 12 core 64 ram, better than a lot of crap out there but as always, depends on what you do. I play games on consoles as they are meant to
who disliked and what or who hurt you
My Mac Pro 2013 has a EGPU Radeon Vega 56 connected to it.
I got mine in 2024, and I'm happy with it as a vintage yet very capable ! It has nice design as always from Apple
I have a 2013 Mac Pro and love it….I don’t think it’s their worst Mac Pro.
but is it worth it? How much electrical consumption does it take? Intels are ded on Macs ... M processors are just too good ...
Well, I love it, so it’s worth it to me. Way cheaper than any other option I would consider.

I'm planing buy one from eBay and put Maverick into it as i miss the old dock so much. Does Maverick is usable these day ?
@kangsalvatore2364 it's pretty unusuable, nothing supports it and everything's outta date

I guess this was Apples first take on the Mac Studio now the Mac Studio is just a taller and more powerful Mac mini

Got the 12-core D700 maxed out unit for $200 and it runs Logic Pro X on 6 thunderbolt displays like butter 😊
running 6 thunderbolt displays is awesome, how heavy of logic workloads you running?

I maxed one out for like $20 and put Linux on it. Fantastic powerhouse of a server.
Thinking of getting one to play
great video dude! just picked up one of these puppies! it's worth owning just as a collectors item if nothing else. but still totally useable!
I just received my 2013 Mac Pro from EBay. Its the 6 Core, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, with Dual D500's for $199.99.
Just got mine today 12 core, Dual D700, 1TB, and 64GB RAM.
“Can’t innóvate my ass “ clear sing that someone tell him “profesionals want the box”
I just bought one and used boot camp to install windows 10 on it. It seems to be a bit slow on the Monterey side but Windows 100 runs very well on it.
Just ordered a mac pro 6 1 on ebay, should arrive Tuesday. 6 core, 64 GB, D500s! Love watching videos about it 😂
have you done the CPU upgrade yet? I have a 6 core Mac Pro I just got and plan on putting a 12 core in it and want some first hand advice on the process
mine came with the 8 core, which generally performs better than the 12, if you wanna upgrade your cpu, go for the 8 core

"over a million dollars in business" does not mean a lot when we're referring to apple, a multi-TRILLION dollar company

I think the worst Mac Pro is the 2019 model, just because affordability. This only trumps the Mac 5,1 for the price in terms of size and great looks.
at least the 2019 model has more upgradability and from introduction to discontinuation didn't have 6 year old cpus in it
@@ErickHatesBMC - True, but the price is unrealistic for a play around machine like the 6,1 and 5,1

the speakers on it are pretty horrible, so even if there was a way to do that, it wouldn't be good

What happens to this after it is no longer supported by Apple?
it's already unsupported since macos monterey

8 core scores better then the 12core?
yea
I heard 12 core gets throttled for thermal considerations. 8 core can run more peformantly since it doesn't cause as much heat.
@bigkahunauk1 8 core also has better single core performance than the 12 core
Should I buy this in 2024?
if you can get one marginally cheaper than an m1 mac mini, then yes
