Great video Thankyou! Really helped cut through all the noise and overwhelm that I’m finding with this device.. I’ll be checking out the whole playlist please keep them coming they are super helpful! 👍
@hikingemergencybeacon thank you so much. I just walked my neighborhood testing the mapping and tracking. I feel like I'm in class lol. Thank you.. watching all of your videos.
You're absolutely right. That's why I broke it all down in playlists for the 66i and the 67i. I'll leave the links below. Garmin GPSMAP 66i: ua-cam.com/play/PLinHuRHy8OYeSJC0fKvG4TC3w7YdWNat1.html Garmin GPSMAP 67i: ua-cam.com/play/PLinHuRHy8OYcd_GBs-P4sBQW4_wnK6WZ7.html The 66i and the 67i are very similar so you can learn a lot by watching the 67i playlist. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
Tracking is for sending your gps track to other people via inReach satellite, for your use case you probably want to be starting an activity (and that's what your using in your video to go back to the start). From Garmins website Activities are recorded coordinates (or breadcrumbs) connected together and their associated data (elevation, time, distance, etc). This is for the benefit of the device user to record and review their own activities. Tracking is for the 66i/67i/86i/86sci only and are coordinates connected together that can be uploaded in real-time to MapShare with an active inReach subscription. This is for the benefit of others to follow along while the tracking is in progress.
Thank for the information and clarification. I always use tracking so my family will know where I am and I have my Activity Recording on High. I like more detail, especially for the videos and if I ever do find myself lost. Thanks again, Rick
Hey mate, that’s a good video, thank you for sharing. I would like to point out, what happened is when you saved your GPX file as a route it had been , “ Truncated”, meaning shortened, that’s why you route was incomplete because, saved as a route the device can save up to 10 000 waypoints, what I do for longer distance hikes is I always save it as a course on my 66i and then from Garmin Explore, ( you can do this from 66i as well), I copy it as a track, and there you, you have it saved as a course and track. Regards, Florin
That's some great information and one I will start using. I prefer creating the routes now in the Explore App, rather than creating a route, but I was not aware of the method you just told me about. Thanks for sharing. Rick
Sir: You do an incredible job detailing the features of each device. That takes a lot of time and effort! I pass on your work, you deserve more subscribers. I am getting ready to make my way west to my lodge in the mountains and would like your advice on what Garmin I should purchase. I will send you another message with the details. Again, Thank You for all the information you provide!👍
Well, until I hear back from you, I would like to ask you a few questions. 1. Do you need both a satellite communicator and maps? 2. Do you already have the ability to navigate but only need to communicate when outside cell service? 3. Are you a big tech guy or do you like a more simple device? I'm looking forward to hearing back from you. Rick
@@outdooremergencytech Hi Rick: I want to communicate if needed, more for emergency but as I go to the middle of nowhere I want to be able to contact someone if I get hung up but do not need an extraction.
@@outdooremergencytech I will want mapping, directions as well. I do fine with tech but want this to be easy to use. I do not want to spend 5 hours trying to set it up or re-read the manual every time I use it. I have an Garmin off road GPS Unit for my side by side. I will send you the model #
Based on your two responses, I would recommend you take a look at Garmin's new inReach Messenger. It's all about SOS and 2-way messaging when outside cell service, plus it will automatically transition between cell service and satellite service without you having to change anything. Here are a few links for you to learn more about it. hikingemergencybeacon.com/garmin-inreach-messenger/, and amzn.to/3YDOjky. Let me know if you have additional questions. Rick

Glad to help. I have at least 6 or 8 more that are scheduled throughout this week and a few more into next week.

@@outdooremergencytech that’s awesome I look forward to them!
Thank you for these videos. I just received mine and I'm learning, this definitely helps me as I am a visual and kinesthetic learner.
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions or would like for me to research something you need help with.

This device is brutal to use man, there's no reason it can't be more user friendly lol
