- Introducing a new type of portulacaria afra ... the "Lilliput.' It's basically a miniature version of the portulacaria afra. This species is great for shohin and mame as well as miniature fairy gardens. Recently discovered at a nursery in in California in 2013, this type of little jade is my new favorite!

Who would have thought that the regular portulacaria leaves could get even smaller. Very cool!
Love the crescent pot planting.
Thank you!!!
I bought the exact same ones!!! im growing them now, this video made me so happy as im just starting my Portulacaria Journey ... So glad i found your channel.
Found mine randomly at a Canadian tire for 8.99
I can't get enough of your art and your little trees. I wish I could get the lilliput variety in the UK, but I'm pretty sure I can't find it here for now

Thanks so much for sharing details on these varieties of Jades , lovely insight presented🤝
Sure thing my friend! Thank you!
Hi, Iam from chennai, India. I love these jade's, and iam addicted to your videos,, thanks for showing your collection.
I was at home depot and saw one of these, so I looked it up and found your video.
This was very helpful. I was looking for just a standard non variegated portulacaria Afra to use for Bonsai, but I think Liliput will work quite well.
The little pot I bought was only $5.99 and had 8 little trees in it. What a deal!
Super interesting! Im growing some prostrada PA's and wiring them upright or semi cascade, but this is next level! Thanks for sharing 😁
Thank you!
Great video as are your others. As soon as I heard you got them at Home Depot I headed up. I bought the remaining two little $4 pots, divided them up and now I have 16 little trees! Looking forward to watching them develop!
So wonderful to find your channel.❤ Already love these plants & learning bonsai & happened upon a wonderful multiple-stem Lilliput & also a great Multicolor/Rainbow today! Home Depot.👍🏻
Thanks for sharing. I had no idea this variety existed. Will be keeping an eye out for these for sure!
Love ur Lillyput mini pots and wii definitely going to try, beautiful video
That is so awesome! I love them just as much as you do! They are an awesome species of tree to Bonsai!
Awesome video. Keep them coming!! Running to Home Depot and Lowe’s now!! 🏃♂️
Haha! I pop in there more than I care to admit. ;-)
This is a great video! I got involved with bonsai this past year and I love Portulacaria Afras! Thanks for all the awesome content!
Terimakasih sharing nya keren Anazing 👍🙏🙏
Thanks for the information on Lilliput. I must say your DIY pots are really attractive.
Love the Portulacaria Afra! Especially the varigated ones. Just beautiful. I had no idea about the Lilliput variety. Will be on the lookout for those. Thanks! Yours are just beautiful.
I just found a little thing of Lilliput today. $5 definitely can't complain about that!
Amazing work....so nice 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
Thanks for the update
Thank you, I’ll start searching for this variety asap ❤️
so cool so cute! love it can't wait to learn more about it
Need to get my hands on one!
Great video
Awesome video! Really nice specimen 👌
🌞 Gr8 presentation, tkx!
Over here it seems even regular portulacaria aren't often available at shops. I've never seen a lilliput in person but hopefully I'll own one before too long! Nice work on the trees :)
Where over here
Thank you very much nice video l like this channel 🙏👍👍👍
I found a couple yesterday at Walmart! They are nice!
I love the pa liliput info. Wonderful discovery. Im also crazy about the pots you made! Any chance of a video on how you made them?
Thanks
Great idea!
I instantly knew it was a miniature p. Afra by the name. It derives from Gulliver's Travels the Lilliputians. I've purchased the normal, variegated, prostrata, Lilliput, and mammoth varieties. I'm attempting not to trim them until they mature more 😅. Just an interesting plant to work with.
I have a few of these, so cool
Nice!
I love your videos brother 🥰
Hopefully more videos and more art forms. On top that more tutorials on how to make backyard wonderful filled with Portulacaria afra 🥰🍀
Very cool thank you 👍
Thanks to your video, big fan; I went to my local stores (in NY State), HD, Walmart, and I found 3 small sickly ones in Lowe’s. I think the clerks don’t water them. But I’m lucky to have found it. There were 4 in the pot I bought. I divided and planted it in a big pot. I hope they grow well. I wonder if the trunks will get thick like the mini jade.
Awesome! Yes they will thicken up quick!
Cool👍👍
Great video! Keep them coming! I would love to buy a few cuttings from you, I can't find the Lilliput up here in Seattle. Please let me know if you would be interested in that sale. Thanks again!
Gilbert, do you have any cuttings you would part with? That would be cool 🐝😎
Hey Gilbert, we bought this cultivar this spring and for some reason it came with thousands of tiny bugs and eventually the plant drop it's leaves. I bought one from homedepot and another from lowes both of them had it and behave the same way. One already died out and another is struggling to sprout new leaves.
Thank you so much for talking about the portulacaria Lilliput . Your little jade bonsai collection is impressive, and I love the pots. Did you make the pots yourself or bought them from some place ? Please do share the source of the pots. 🙏🙏🙏🙂
I think I wanna make a semi cascade like that. I have a primitiv pot simmilar to that.
The leaves will come out to be smaller in full sun compared to indoor lighting as well(for regular portulacaria afra)
you have me hooked on your videos!!! I have always loved jade plants, I have a few succulents, but now you have me wanting to do a bonsai Portulacaria. I inherited some succulents from my step mother last week and they need some attention some leaves are missing and limbs have died. But going to nurse them back to health and then go from there. Please tell me again how often you fertilize you plants with miracle grow. would I be doing them more harm if i changed their soil now or do I need to wait until next spring. I live in South Ga. close to Fla. line so its still really hot here.
I’m so sad I kill EVERY portulacaria I buy I had this variety for a few months and one day dead from dryness I just can’t get it right and it’s killing me!! Now regular jades that’s my jam! I’m going to trim the bonsai I made for my mom and try to root some cutting we’ll see what happens. Any and all advice is welcome because I long to have a collection of these! PS. Found my at Home Depot too and felt just like you! Like a found a treasure lol
Are you keeping them indoors?
Great video and info such a special new Port Afra!
From a calloused cutting whats the time to re root from cuttings into dry well draining mix?
The Lilliput looks good shame we don’t get it in the UK
Have you done any variegated portalacaria? What are your thoughts on that variety? The leaves are much thicker and obviously the color differences are apparent, would it make a good bonsai?
Thanks Gilbert that helped. I'm going to report it today
I live for this shit
👍👍👍
Lovly
wow who knew you can grow them so upright, i just bought my first today and its my first introduction into portulacaria plants i wonder if i can grow mine into a bonsai tree like your first one. do these plants do well in direct sunlight ? and how often should i water ?
Love your work! Beautiful little plants! Gilbert, do you ever have cuttings you would be willing to part with, and sell? Where do you find the containers you grow in? Have a lovely day!
I have three of the variegated Portulacaria afras and I find them to be very slow growing. Their leaves are smaller than my regular Portulacaria also. My regular Portulacaria grows like crazy. They were all outside for the warmer months. The regular one grew continually during the summer months while the variegated ones grew very little. The variegated version has done nothing since being brought inside while the regular one continues to grow like a weed. I have to trim it often while I have not trimmed the variegated ones at all as yet. They were all fairly small when I got them but the variegated ones have hardly changed in size at all.
I just repotted my regular Portulacaria so I expect it will not grow much more until spring. I also repotted one of the variegated ones. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Are some of these plants possibly some kind of hybrid or genetically created? It just seems strange that they grow so differently under the same conditions.
That's a really neat variety. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like the perfect candidate for Mame work. :0)
Can you tell me the brand of the little table you're using? Looks like a good one.
Hey Gilbert, awesome video, I have a quick question, do you keep any of your lilliput trees indoors? If so, do you have any best practices for doing so?
I've been trying to figure out, when new branches grow from where I pruned, should I remove the leaves that are at the base of the new braches?
Hey Gilbert, have you thought of maybe grafting your more mature trees with Lilliput Foliage? That might really make for something spectacular!
Hi, could we get an update on how the Liliput have been doing?
hi there, how often do you water your jade? my jade doesnt seem to be growing as fast as yours. i kept 1 for a year and they dont grow any major difference.
hey, great video! I totally need one of these liliputs, but never saw them anywhere. would you mind, sending some cuttings to germany? ^^
Hey man , love your turn table very handy, what do you call it , is is available on Amazon?
Yes I purchased mine on Amazon and customized it. :-)
I came across this video because of the pot. can you do a tutorial on how to make these homemade pots?
I definitely will! I’ve received a lot of requests for that and definitely plan to make a video on it.
@@LittleJadeBonsai You've earned a subscription for that :D
I've seen them on your Instagram lately and they are sooo amazing! I really love the mame size trees. :)
But ist there any chance to find this cultivar in europe?
I'm not sure but if it's not there yet, I'm sure it will make its way eventually.
I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for them then.
EEEeeee I saw the lilliput about a month ago and I thought was weird, then I saw your video haha Ive been going to find some and I finally found one today! I did find a "Manny" have you heard of those?
Where can I buy some cutting from the Lilliput I can’t find any locally
Where I can buy Portulacaria afra lilliput online?
Buenas tardes , donde puedo buscar toda tu información en español o subtitulado . Gracias
Do you sell cutting????
Thank for your time
Greg
Where can I buy Lilliput?
I need some! Anyone have a good online source? I'm in central Virginia, never seen them at Lowes.
I got mine at Walmart lol
its the same as the minima LJB?
No, the minima is the 'prostrata.' The 'Lilliput' has an upright morphology while the prostrata has a more pendulous morphology. I explain this all in the video. :-)
i have seen the minima upright. maybe just trained that way. they're only ones i dont have i my collection out of the 9 or so cultivars
maybe the ones i saw were just mis marked lilliput. they get marked wrong a lot
@@mikec3820 they do get mis marked a lot. You’ll definitely be able to tell the difference from the prostrata and the lilliput.
I love ur all little jades 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 ( @h_limbani2011 )
