I live in US zone 8A, coastal NC. I planted my first dahlia this summer. They are just magnificent flowers but I've always shied away from them. The variety I grew did spectacularly well with really no effort! I'm going to leave mine mulched up in the ground as an experiment over winter. Hopefully they won't get too cold or too wet! Claus, you are an inspiration!!
I live in North Lincolnshire and just wanted to say I love your videos. So informative and helpful. I don’t have a garden just a courtyard. I plant everything in pots. I love listening to your English. How clever are you.
My gosh your garden and your taste is absolutely impeccable. It's so remarkable what you've achieved growing in pots, something I've never been good at.
So beautiful and amazing that you can plant a lot of flowers and plants so beautiful, also nice blooming.I an imagine that to have a nice garden like your.Thank you so much with your sharing the nice 🙏 video 👍❤️🙏👍🌍
You have amazing beautiful flowers. It was a pleasure seeing them and admiring their beauty. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Greetings from Canada💜
Thank you! I posted this morning on another of your videos asking for a video about planting dahlias in pots and was happy to find this one you created last fall.
Thank you so much, Claus! So informative. I barely notice the supports (brilliant, incidentally) because of the beautiful flowers. Please have a spare room ready for me and my little dog...Nero needs a guest too. (oh my gosh it's paradise! is anyone else brushing up on the metric system?)
Another really useful video thankyou Claus (& thankyou To Alexandra from ‘The Middle Sized Garden’), it’s lovely to see how you create each particular type of display, especially the colour range, so giving us info on the dahlia cultivars & some of the foliage, in this case the chartreuse & lime plus the dark purple Angelica gigas - gorgeous! . I also have your latest wonderful book ‘Containers in the Garden’, which I have read from cover to cover & spent a long time studying the pictures, too. I mark the sections I know I’m going to need again with removable tabbed labels written in pencil 😊 . Thanks a million as always! 👏🏻 Ruthie x
Thank you so much for this informative and encouraging video. This is perfect for my particular need in a area for my dahlias here in Louisville, Kentucky.
Очень люблю георгины, но ни разу не выращивала в горшках. Спасибо за идею, надо попробовать. Мой любимый сорт это, конечно же, Тартан. Спасибо за такую красоту☺😊
Your dahlias are so beautiful 😍. I love Dahlias. I have twelve I didn’t plant this year so I put them in my garden refrigerator. I hope they will grow next year. I was so busy planting so many things, I forgot to plant my dahlias. I’m in zone 9b Northern California. We have warm weather. I enjoy your videos and thank you for your knowledge. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
It’s strange but I’ve left my dahlia tubers in the ground over winter and even after very wet and also very cold winters, they’re still fine. They grow and flower well to my surprise each year!!
You are such a gift for us gardeners! Great info and such beauty to behold in your garden!! Thankyou so very much! Love your utube videos from judy in pensacola fl USA!🌺👍🥰
Thank you Claus. I have contacted several dahlia growers on YT, all with different methods. One is Dahliaholic (Geoff and Heather), and Sara Craven, who doesn't lift her plants. I hope to grow some this year, but without a greenhouse, I might lose them - then buy more!
Just to thank you for suggesting reading about Constance Spry, what a talented lady. Please show us around your green house and is it heated all winter. We live in New York State and it is very cold climate.
Very informative video on your beautiful garden. So interesting to have all plants in containers. Love the mix of foliage plants amongst the flowers. Love your doggie companion.
Your garden is so beautiful. I have been falling in love with Dahlia's and would like to try my hand at it. I live in Barcelona, Spain and only have a small balcony. However, I think after watching your video, I am going to try next year with one large pot.
What was the beginning for your idea, planting al theese wonderful dalias and shrubs in pots? Why don't you grow them in soil? Every time i learned a lot of your videos. Greetings from Germany
Hello. I saw your tobacco. I think you remembered me! But I wrote about smoking tobacco. And yours is decorative. This is different. There is smoking tobacco, tall with huge lime-colored leaves. It does not winter here in Russia. Annual. Its flowers are small and white. Very modest.
Do you only store the tubers in newspaper? What is your opinion on vermiculite? Do you divide your tubers in the fall before storing them, or in the Spring ( April) prior to potting them up for the first time? This was a lovely video to watch and I am sending it to many of my Dahlia growing friends.
I am about to do what you just asked. I have done a lot of research, and I will put mine in dampened vermiculite wrapped in burlap and put into crates with holes, you DO have to check on them in case the vermiculite needs re-dampening (so they don't shrivel). I hear division is easier in the spring because you can see the eyes much better. I would recommend pre-washing them before you store. Good luck!
Hello Claus. I enjoy your videos very much. Can you please elaborate on exposure with the different varieties of your flowers and shrubs? Especially the shrubbery? I have a very shaded back yard with dappled sun in the afternoon so I’m finding it hard to determine what I can add to my garden to make an impact.
Love your live for your garden so beautiful, also want to ask you I have Dahlias seeds who have sprout already well my question is that seed plant will have bulb later?
Hej Claus Putter du virkelig 3 planter i hver krukke? Synes ellers at kunne læse at de skal stå med 30-50 cm afstand til hinanden. Tak for nogle gode videoer.
I was looking for info on how to grow Dahlia's in pots but didn't get enough info to feel confident in buying the tubers and growing them. Do you cut the tubers into individuals or leave them as a clump, what soil mix - with or without fertilizer? When to water - what conditions am I looking for to know they need water? Are the pots covered ever - can I put them in the house or under an eave during the spring? When transplanted to larger pots, again what type of soil mix? When & with what to fertilize them with? What about fungus', bad bugs, or disease any tips? Perhaps you could do another video on everything you do for a single dahlia tuber cluster from overwintering to Summer blooms and when to dig up for another winter-over. I only have a patio so I will need to grow in pots but have full sun and am in zone 8 and know they will do well I just want to know what to do for a full year...as a new gardener I don't want to miss a step. The dahlia's have so many unique blooms -- they're gorgeous, as is your garden. Thank You Mr Dalby : D
Hi Mara! Laura from Garden Answer has recommended Bonide Rose X, I did try it on my dahlias and it killed the mildew very quickly. I bought the diluted type, because I wanted the spray bottle, and then I bought the concentrate. I just refill the bottle. It has a strong smell of garlic, but it does work!
I was curious about this, too. It features prominently in the video so it is surprising that doesn't mention it. Not sure it is the same one, but if you view the listing for his new book on Amazon, he says one that looks very much like this one was a seedling (so not a named variety).
I’ve been waiting for this video, just so delightful to hear your Hello Hello ❤️
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! It’s hard to believe that all that beautiful garden is really in containers. Thanks for sharing!
The sunflowers in the vase are an enviable specimen. Thank you for the video,

How very kind - thank you so, so much.
You have inspired me to plant my dahlias in pots next spring. I struggled greatly digging them from the ground this fall.
Thank you, this is just in time for planting dahlias here in New Zealand. I have ordered tubers and am waiting for their arrival any day now. ♥️🌸🌼
Living close to an active volcano Mt Asama, I just wanted to send you my thanks for every information you gave on dalia.

Chartreuse is the PERFECT accent color! It "flavors" the garden like salt seasons food.
I could not agree with you more.

Hello,,love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🥰🥰🥰
Love your videos.
I am pleased to hear it - thank you so much for being here.
Wondering is there a source for your supports? I have a terrible time with staking. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gardens. Gardening in Maine.
I will definitely put more plants in pots.
Love your live for your garden so beautiful, also want to ask you I have Dahlias seeds who have sprout already well my question is that seed plant will have bulb later?
thanks
Do you pinch your dahlia plants? Yours are stunning.
Such wonderful colours all together - when you say you plant more than one dahlia to a pot - how big the pot?
Claus, do you water all of these pots by hand? Simply gorgeous and amazing 😉
He said in a previous clip that he does water by hand and it takes 8-10 hours a day... He have two gardeners that help him.
@@Grace-oe2iu thank you. I will have to look at more of his videos.

Another beautiful video😀what is the plant in your greenhouse ?

Mange tak til dig for at kigge med.
How do you make sure all of your potted plants get watered?
Fabulous! Anyone know where to get supports like his? I would love to use pots but need those heavy duty supports.
If you have any luck finding them I would sure like to know.
Claus- do you sell your supports? If so do they ship to the USA?
I have been searching for them too. They are not in his website "shop". Did you have any luck finding them?

Hi Claus what you do about the powdery mildew?

Dear Claus, what is the name of the pink and orange single flower dahlia?
How do you water all the pots, do you use a drip system?
Thank you for sharing all this beauty with us! I wonder, though, how you water all these pots? Are they on drip or do you water by hand?
In another video he said that he waters the entire garden by hand.
@@karinchristensen220 thank you. I bet he has Preban helping him. That’s a lot of watering!!
