Oh my gosh! I can't get over how beautiful his garden is! I can't get over the colors and shapes of the different dahlias, the foliage plants, and everything else. Typically, I don't like cool tone flowers and dark foliage but he completely changed my mind. This video was very inspirational! I can't wait to grow dahlias next year! Sorry for all the exclamation marks...I'm American.

Thank you Alexandra and Klaus. Klaus you have the most beautiful garden I think I have ever seen. I love the formality of the hedges against all the beautiful flowers! Thank you again, this was a feast for eyes.
Thanks for this collaboration video Alexandra. Claus is definitely a master in container gardening. Sometimes it is hard to believe that you are looking at masses of containers and not borders.

The plants Claus has chosen to companion in his Dahlia Display have offered a list of what I'll seek to enhance my own display of dahlias in pots (here, in south central British Columbia) 🍁
Great video thank you! Alexandra I really like the mix of videos you have, including these collaborations. It's both interesting for viewers but shows a real respect for other gardeners style and a generosity of spirit in sharing. I love that. Thank you :-)
Great video. Thank you. Claus has been my garden hero for many years and I am lucky to have visited his garden several times. It truly is a very special and inspirational place. His talent for making plant combinations is out of this world.
It's me again, almost a year later - I grew some dahlias from seed and now I'm winterizing some handsome tubers. This year I am ready to prepare my pots to plant dahlias. Wish me luck. Again, thank you for instructions.
Claus's gardens are incredible and he is such a pleasure to watch and to listen to. I always wonder how he water and feeds his potted gardens when the pots are in place.
In a video I saw he said he employs two full time gardeners. Easier to take care of pots when one has staff. Plus big pots and cool climate help with water retention so I don’t think his pots need daily watering, perhaps once or twice a week?
@@laurieanne9712 Zone just refers to the coldest average temperature, it doesn't measure how warm it gets, which is why it doesn't translate very well outside the US. Gardening in the UK, we would be zone 8/9 for winter temperatures, but we rarely get hotter than mid 20c in summer (about 75f), similar story in other parts of Europe.

Thank you very much for such wonderful collaboration video. I follow both of the channels and to me it’s like ‘strawberry and clotted cream’ perfect combination of tips, ideas and inspiration 🙏🏻👍🏻
Fabulous tips! I have 45 dahlias I plant out on 3 terraces every May. (Slugs eat the lot if I leave them in) - I learnt a lot in this video about the importance of combining foliage colour. I fill gaps with cosmos but I love the use of cleomes in Klaus’ display . I’ve grown them before and they last all summer, well into the autumn.
The best of both worlds! I wonder how he deals with Lily Beetles, because his Lilium 'Purple Marble' didn't seem to have any holes in the leaves, nor the nasty gunk of their eggs. Thank you for introducing us to Claus. I'll definitely go and look at more of his gardening vlogs - but I shan't abandon you, Alexandra :)
You changed my life.....I am not an experienced gardener but am soaking up every bit of knowledge I can get. I'm happiest when I'm kneeling in the dirt planting flowers. I have been disappointed the last few years that none of my Dahlias have come up after planting them in the front flower garden the past few years. This year I found out what has been happening with them. The bulbs were all squishy and rotted out. I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area and after watching this video I had an "Ah-ha" moment and now am going to plant them in containers! My soil is too wet and they drowned after certain times of the year when we get a lot of rain. Now I just need to learn how to transport them into bigger pots until they can be put outside in their final pot for blooming.
I live in Tacoma and have had my Dalhias in the ground for years and they always come back. It's pretty hard to have them rot unless they are in an area that gets no drainage. I love Dalhias and planted even more Tubers this year. I do have some in pots this year for the first time but will be putting them in the ground this week. I'm afraid they might not come back in the pots if/when it freezes. Happy to see another PNW gardener.😊
Thank you for sharing your garden and knowledge with us. I’m a UA-cam gardener too. It’s my 3rd year as a gardener and I’m still learning as I grow. This year I’m trying to add companion plants to my garden. This is very helpful and I am so happy I found your channel because it has so much to offer. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our channels!
the music while showing the dahlias brought a tear to my eye,so beautiful. I'm plagued by vine weevils in my pots since 2020, and it's so disheartening as I love pots due to my clay soil.
Oh Klaus it is so easy to move the pots around ....If you can move them got some huge shrub pots and they weigh a ton!! but the plant ones are O.K thank-you for letting us into your glorious garden and your standard poodle is wonderful.
What a lovely pleasant man, his garden is beautiful. I planted dahlias for the first time this year. They came up, lots of foliage, but never flowered and I’ve just realised watching that perhaps I planted too deep in the pot. I made the same mistake with a peony I planted. Thanks so much for this video.
It may also be too early - my dahlias are only just beginning to flower, so give them a few more weeks. And also give them some feed, if you haven't already. An all-purpose plant feed is fine, just follow the instructions of whatever brand you have or buy.
Thank you so much for this. It is such a pleasure to see Claus again, I used to watch his TV programme in Denmark. Always beautiful and colourful, with so many really good and practical ideas for any garden. What a fabulous sense of colour and composition he has. I shall be popping in on his UA-cam channel from now on. Had no idea he had one!
Thanks for featuring Mr Dalby, I watched his first English speaking video and have ever since. I hope your viewers check it out, they won't be disappointed. I'd love to see a tour of your garden too. Curious about how the front garden is coming along.
Thank you. I'm musing over the front garden, which isn't working out (I don't think), but I will certainly include my musings either in the next video coming up or the one after that.
Love this video! Claus and container gardening is most awesome and inspiring. I have very little room in my garden for plants and so I love the idea of planting dahlias in planters. Thank you for sharing! 💚🙏🪴
Wonderful. I was going to ask what the dark foliage plants are around the chartreuse ones, as they bring each other to life of course, but taking a second look, I think that most of them are dark leafed dahlias, yes? I find Claus's gardens absolutely thrilling. Container gardening has a kind of flexibility that you cannot really get otherwise. And Claus is a master at it. But I'm a little bit of two minds about gardens that largely depend on containers (which I realize are only some of Claus's, and also the "bones" of his garden rooms are in the ground). For me, as stunning as it can be, if it were the major part of my garden, I would miss the sort of history that comes from plants grown in the ground, how they mature through the years, how they may want to be moved, even how they may need to be taken out. I wonder if other feel similarly.
Yes, I think the dark leaves are 'Bishop of Oxford' and other dark dahlias. I think you have an interesting point, especially if a garden was only pots - it might feel a bit temporary, but I think Claus's mix of pots and permanent planting is very interesting, because, for example, I think all his hydrangeas are in the ground. And I love what he's done with trees - I'd just love an 'umbrella' hornbeam....

Lovely, lovely dahlias - but where oh where are his slugs and snails??? They consume everything in my garden .
