I found India's friendliest street.

  • In Jodhpur I go in search of the famous blue buildings of the city and come across perhaps the friendliest street I’ve ever encountered anywhere in the world where nearly every resident welcomed me with huge smiles and a tremendous welcome.
Along the way I get invited into a carpenter’s studio to watch him saw wood, then I stumble across a man selling trombones in a very unexpected area.
A man invites me into a temple to watch him pray to then bless me as well which I found quite a humbling experience.
I’m also educated by several people standing around a vegetable stand as to what the different names of vegetables in India are called - one particular man is quite the character.
We also discover a temple which offers food cooked in large pans and are greeted by a local man who tries to explain what’s going on.
After climbing a considerable amount of stairs we finally get to a blue guesthouse rooftop where we are able to get a view of the blue buildings of Jodhpur as well as the imposing fort that looms over the city.
This was maybe my favorite travel day so far. A wonderful experience on all accounts.

The trombone shop seems kind of odd and out of place, having listened to Indian music over the years I can't say I ever remember hearing a trombone, granted I have limited exposure to their music scene(which I'm sure is vastly different from region to region) and have probably listened to more traditional to older Bollywood, Ravi Shankar, etc. Do you try to seek out any music while your there?

    • @fiascodagama1

Hi bluefish. I enjoy music a great deal (even attempt to play it occasionally) and would be eager to engage in it as an observer/listener or even perhaps jam a little if the opportunity presented itself. With much of my time devoted to making videos, and with the nature or style of those videos being sort of random encounters, I haven't come across any music as such but would be very pleased should it present itself. Thanks for taking the time to ask.

You people are right feeling puzzled seeing the trombone shop in India. Actually it is not a trombone shop and trombone and other western instruments are not part of classical indian music. That shop is the office/store of a band of musicians for hire (we call it band or band party) to go and play music in a marriage procession/any other procession/road parade etc. To understand why they are playing western instrument and not indian ones you need to go back to history. These are imitations of british military bands processions which are copied by indian maharajas and then common people to celebrate special occasions.

One should always be mindful of the potential for some to have a hidden agenda. Most people don't wish for anything other than a friendly encounter.

Hi Wayne, love your genuine attitude and straightforward content and a great Aussie attitude. Seems like the videos are growing on me..
just keep in mind...Anything which is out of the tourist circuit is generally fair.. general thumb rule, speak to local folks whom you want to and avoid those who come up to you to chat.. mostly..
Ask people to repeat words unfamiliar and look up on the internet or use google translate...
Also have Uber in hand in big cities just to give you a fair idea of the fare.. cheers 🍻

@@fiascodagama1 Thanks for your reply. Just that we love people visiting our country but get really pained when they experience trouble due to some unscrupulous characters in our land.
We would love you to go back with overall good memories and positive experiences.
And again very happy to host you at my place and take you around if you plan to visit Bangalore, Karnataka!

Hi Wayne, that wasn't a music instruments shop, in fact it was a kind of an of office for a band. When indians get married they book a band. Groom's family friends and relatives get together, some times a couple of hundred and go to the bride's home dancing in the streets while the band play bellwood hits one after another.
