    Within 24 hours, the Dolphins hosted the chargers in the legendary 1981 AFC divisional playoff game in that same electric setting.

      And the DVD release of this game has all commercials edited out, except the one for that game.

    I was so young when I watched this game. At least on the east coast, Clemson was popular during this run. I remembered the Clemson Soda.

      If it’s like The Fridge, sounds tasty and robust. If it’s like Dabo, tasteless and frustratingly unevolving.

    I remembered that Clemson team as the one that had William "The Fridge" Perry. He was a big part of their defense and later for the Chicago Bears. That was a very good game, two very worthy teams.
    You know what the law is on the Tom Osborne freeway in Nebraska -- No passing.

    This is the first game I watched in full when I started my Husker fandom.
    Nebraska was a favorite against an undefeated Clemson squad. A win would've gotten them at least a share of the National Championship (based on the results of previous bowl games) after starting 1-2 and rattling off eight straight wins. Turner Gill's absence was definitely felt in this game, but Clemson deserves a ton of credit for pulling this out.
    This was Coach Osborne's first shot at winning a National Championship in a bowl game.

      That was media hype. Even if Nebraska won, Pitt beat Georgia and would have been 11-1. Clemson would have been 11-1. Nebraska 10-2. Penn st who gave Pitt it’s only loss was 10-2. Texas beat Alabama and ended 10-1-1. The voters would have had to choose between one loss Texas and one loss Pitt. Based on the final AP rankings it would have been Texas who ended up #2.

      @@Biggdoom344 Regardless of who would've won, it would've been interesting if one team "quartered" a piece of the NC by tying in one poll and not factoring in another.

      @@gynandroidhead that was an interesting season. No clear cut above the rest team. But several very good ones including Clemson.

      Nebraska was at a huge disadvantage in this game without their Superstar Quarterback Turner Gill. Gill was the second greatest Signal Caller in Nebraska history. Trailing only the incomparable Tommie Frazier. Had Gill played in that game, the outcome would have been different. Fords reign at Clemson was relatively short. Only about 10 years. His reputation inside and outside of the game was as a fraudulent cheat. So much so that in a book of the greatest college coaches, the Author pointedly left out Ford and Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer. Among others. Referring to their blatant disregard for the rules that govern the game. Tom Osbornes career was two and a half times longer than Fords. For good reason. Osborne did it right at Nebraska for 25 seasons. Peaking during his last five seasons with three National Championships and a record of 60-3. As an overall force in the College Game Tom Osborne dwarfed Danny Ford and Clemson. As did the giant shadow of Nebraska Football.

      @@donaldschmidt2990Funny you didn't mention how Nebraska lost 7 or 8 straight bowl games until they got Tommie Frazier. Btw Frazier had offers from Florida St. Miami & Florida yet chose Nebraska. Why?? & you thought Nebraska was clean 😂

    Turner Gill's absence was felt in this one. but that notwithstanding, the difference in this game looks like the 2 first quarter Nebraska fumbles that led to 10 Clemson points.

    Crazy how people aged so much more quickly back then. Danny Ford was 33??? He looked 53 (a good, “wow you look young for your age” 53, nonetheless 53). The players all looked way older than college kids too.

      lol yes, the decade before each person, people look older

      I think it’s because they style themselves like how older people do. Which is because young people back then (aka them) styled themselves like that

    That and also, we just don't realize the power of the passage of time. We're living this thing out in real time, and life as we know it is just flying by. I get the same feeling you have with viewing this recording while watching games from the 1990s also.

    Little known fact: 2 defensive linemen would score in Super Bowl XX. One played for Nebraska. One played for Clemson. One would score a TD for the Chicago Bears. One would net a Safety for the Chicago Bears.

    • @MGAF688
      @MGAF688 3 роки тому

      P.S. In Super Bowl XX, New England would score only 1 TD. A player for Nebraska in this game would score that TD. In Super Bowl XIX the year before, a different player for Nebraska in this game would score 3 TDs for the San Francisco 49ers but somehow not win Super Bowl MVP.

    • @MGAF688
      @MGAF688 3 роки тому

      2 other members of Clemson and other member of Nebraska in this game also would be a part of the New England team in Super Bowl XX. All 3 of them were defensive players for the Patriots.

    Yet another example at 44:07 of a good chunk of people (including Criqui, and Osborne who sent his offense SPRINTING onto the field) not understanding that the clock stops on a change of possession. Danny Ford appeared to know the rule. I guess it was so ingrained in people that the clock wouldn’t stop in that situation many years prior that lots of folks couldn’t adjust.

    If Pitt who was #1 had not lost to Penn st in the seasons final weekend they would also have been 11-0. Yet due to bowl tie ins the was no scenario that Pitt would have played Clemson. Pitt beat Georgia in the sugar bowl

    Its Crazy how good Turner Gill was but injuries & Osbournes reluctance to let him play as a freshman only gave Nebraska in 83 there only true chance at a title. Steve Taylor was suppose to be the Savior but just couldnt beat Oklahoma.

    Amazing how it took CFB so long to have a way to ensure #1 plays #2 in a bowl game. Shame the times it didn’t happen and all the faulty and biased logic used to VOTE (?!) for the winner. Guess it came down to money. Bowl games locking schools into contracts and not wanting to give up a top rank team appearing in their game.
