Love this. I remember this game well as an LSU fan. I was 12 years old. My dad got two free tickets to the Sugar Bowl that year, so I was there with a family friend. Penn State won their first title under Paterno in that game by beating Herschel Walker and Georgia. But I remember that we were sitting with a bunch of LSU fans, and someone had one of the first portable TVs (6 inch B&W screen) and we all huddled around to see if LSU could pull it out in the 4th Quarter. LSU also had a great Orange Bowl against a great Nebraska team in 1971.

Love watching all these classic big bowl games in this format, Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta. New Year's Day was epic football back then. I know you like watching good games, especially if you don't remember them, even though I am a UGA fan I will say that basically any Auburn-Alabama game from about 82 to 89 was a nailbiter. 94 and 96 UGA-Auburn are also classics.

I always remember the 1981 bowl game against Clemson .Too bad Turner Gill was hurt in that game. If he plays there is no question in my mind we win . Most college football experts agree. Another National Championship escapes the Huskers.

Yea great effort by LSU. When Betanzos hit that long FG late I really thought they could come back late and win, but Osborne's Huskers kept moving the chains the last 5 minutes.

This 82 and 83 Nebraska team may be the best never to win a championship. Lost to a jacked up Miami team after a dominant 83 season and this team was cheated at penn st. Based on how the bowl parings are set up, Nebraska would have been 12-0 playing a two loss LSU team.

I believe Nebraska won this 21-20. LSU chose to kick a FG down 21-17 early 4th qtr and never got another real shot to score. Rare LSU appearance in the Orange Bowl. They usually played in the Sugar Bowl or another bowl. #1 Georgia played #2 Penn State in the Sugar Bowl at the same time of this game on ABC. Those were the days.

Everyone remembers the catch out of bounds, people forget that they started. Penn State started that guy with a 15 yard personal foul pedally that never happened., and the ball in the end zone was probably a trap, but the guy who called to catch absolutely couldn’t have seen it. He was behind the play.

I think the 1982 husker squad might have been a more complete team than the 1983 team. Rimmington and Steinkuhler playing together was strong. Also, the defensive line seemed stronger in 1982. However, this is just one man's opinion, and the stats might indicate otherwise.

They had better players although many illegally recruited by Barry Switzer. You have to give credit to that wishbone offense of theirs.
