My cat does require a pet license now. There was a Monty Pythom sketch about a cat license. It was not serious!
Yep you wouldnt get away with this sketch today.
+TheJoffah Have you seen South Park?
+Bingding Memedream Buckle up, buckaroo.
+stickypool I know this sounds horridly hippie, but if we all just had a little more love and empathy for each other, then we wouldn't have to keep building these ridiculous little fences and jokes could be funny again.
That's horribly hippie, alright. And it makes no freaking sense.
What a difference a year makes. It turns out that in the UK a joke will get you convicted of hate speech. Also, the aussies have been better at cricket because they're cheats.
Some of the most brilliant comedians of all time
They always get it right and they make fun of everyone and everything equally. It’s a true talent!
They wouldn't be able to say that now...
@1:14 I love how it's obvious that Eric Idle completely lost his shit at that joke and is laughing so he puts his head in his hands to make it look like he is crying 😂
god... remember when this was absurd parody and not fucking headlines?
That last line...this whole scene is perfect, but “Symbolic of his struggle against reality” just couldn’t be more right nowadays.
4 decades ahead of its time - Extraordinary.
Marvellous. Reg's rationale and shock at everyone entertaining Stan's, sorry, Loretta's, impossible goal is pretty accurate for today. "I'm not oppressing you Stan YOU DON'T HAVE A WOMB"! 🤣
And soon after this, 'Loretta' went on to become a living legend in all of the Women's Amphitheatre Combat competitions of the day.
I still love this scene.
It really cracks me up.
And makes my day.
Glad they included it in the original movie.
Plus Eric's laughing too.
His shoulders are moving.😅😅😅😅
Wow. 80s satire is 2020s reality.
1979 to be precise. The fact that modern society idolises the "Greed is good" 80's is ironic and a little sad in of itself.
Having said all that, you're being a bit generous aren't you?
smh
When this film was released it was a bit on the progressive edgy side, now it's been so long even conservatives love it.
The only thing the original is missing from the 2020's version is the iNtENsiTy...
@@PeterKnagge bc they don’t get it 😂
Ahead of their time! Particularly the ‘don’t oppress me’ bit! 😂
Transgender people existed way before then, dog day afternoon with al pacino was 1975
Trans people existed back then too… Trans people have always existed. Read a book
What was a joke 40 years ago has now become reality.
More like predictive programming.
ua-cam.com/video/EIoLBlJF_Pw/v-deo.html
It's still a joke 😉
@@PEDROGARCIA-qj3gr Way to win people over to your side. Call them a retard and say they're too dumb to learn. Works every time doesn't it? Bet you're the life of the party too
@@tonymichaels5592 I first read your comment and assumed he had nothing of value to say, then I read his comment and it turns out you ignored everything else he said.
It works when the listener doesn't ignore almost everything, yes.
It's when someone insults and says nothing else, that there is nothing of value.
"Symbolic of his struggle against reality." Love it.
😂😂😂 This is just what I needed, imagine someone saying that this is going to be the reality 43 years from now 😂😂
I love it how the woman doesn't even care about the pronouns and it is the man who goes "or woman" every sentence. It is THAT accurate.
Exactly lol. 100% accurate
@@absolutechad5428 I truly don't believe this was intentionally 'wise' in terms of predicting the future. It was just to them a very funny idea at the time. Given 'life of Brian' couldn't even be made in this day and age, and this joke came true, I think we can all settle on the fact that identity politics has partially destroyed Western culture
Well it is important to include women coz your language is making men as a default because men means sex and all the people lol. But sadly very often saying 'men and women' is just an empty virtue signaling.
"Suppose you agree that he can't actually have babies"
No, suppose you agree that *she* can't actually have babies
My friend pointed this out, who is himself trans.
@@marthalynx7941 As a woman, I couldn’t give a shit.
"Symbolic of his struggle against reality..." SPLITTERS!!!
How did Monty Python know that this perfectly describes today's craziness. November 2021.
Because they all went through Oxbridge, where they would have encountered first hand the windbag Marxists who espoused all this crap and who paved the way for the woke movement of today.
I love how litterally everything they said came 100% true
"Let's come up with a fake social movement but make it as ridiculous as possible otherwise the joke won't work"
50 years later:
Stonewall happened in the same year... so nothing fake about that.
What you watched here gentlemen, is just pure perfection and british comedy.
So ahead of their time. It's exactly what's being said: 'It's my right as a man'
They can re-release Life of Brian as a documentary now
Last line NAILED it-
"Symbolic of his struggle against reality"
Four decades ago this was absurdist comedy. Today a transcript of this scene could pass for a real dialogue at any university campus or public school board meeting. The tragic takeover of lunatics.
Not really. There were transexuals back then.
Oh dear Cary. You seem to have been left behind 😂
Yup the left is bonkers.
@@lol-de4lo
You mean pathetic cowards below 25 who can't be natural female-looking adult males?
@@odeliamili7129 no they meant people who innately identified psychologically as the gender that opposes their biological sex and usually had the courage to own and express it while most people (such as yourself) stuck to popular ideas and bullied them... like pathetic cowards :P
This has aged well for too many reasons.
Whenever I watch life of Brian, I ALWAYS laugh so hard at "symbolic of his struggle against reality"
The least funny part- Cleese is playing the controlling, rigid, ignorant part of society of here
@@sampal5352 you're playing the part of the annoying, duplicitous, virtue-signaling twat.
@@sampal5352 Nope, in comedy terms, his role is a straight man in this scene. He is the one who is here to contrast with the absurd characters.
This movie won't be cancelled. It'll just get to the point where no one will be able to comprehend it.
I remember crying with laughter at this sketch as a kid.. Little did I know this was my future FFS 🤦🤦
so many problems in the world, but we spend our time fighting for "symbolic" and invented "problems". this sketch will not grow old.
“You haven’t got a womb! Where’s the fetus gonna gestate? You gonna keep it in a box!?”
🤣🤣🤣
I never knew that the actress who played Judith Iscariot became the Mayor of Aberystwyth in 2008, where "Life of Brian" was still banned nearly 30 years after it's release. She was instrumental in having the ban lifted!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was downright prophetic 😂
That fetus in a box line made me laugh out loud in the library. I’m in trouble now.
This scene is uncomfortably predictive of what we see in today's society.
Oh, so you are uncomfortable with it? Well that sure triggers me. I think I might just have to turn you in.
@brus li into a titmouse. Dont you get it? Sheesh.
@richieboy09 Transgender people have been around for thousands of years my friend
Nice to see your uncomfortable, that's just society becoming more accepting.
@@josieg.k.7320 It's only the "wanting to have babies" without a womb that makes Stan delusional. That's the joke, not the gender identity. Even in the 70s, they had transgender people. They harm no-one, and should have the freedom to dress any way they want, in a tolerant society.
Brilliant, totally brilliant, some of the best actors in the world.
"Symbolic of his struggle against reality" 😂😂😂
Aaaand now they want to censor this scene from the film.
“It’s symbolic of his struggle against reality.”
It's 2021 and this has officially come to pass.
Unlike troons
I can't believe how far ahead of its time this is.
You know a comedy is timeless when it starts predicting the future 😅😅
Did you know that trans people have been a thing since before but especially in ancient rome? Did you know that’s also when the movie takes place? It’s actually pretty interesting.
I was mainly talking about the arguments
@@bowser8817 so where are the documents proving there were mysterious mass unalivings in ancient rome? since Ts want us to believe that if we don't affirm them they're gonna look for a bucket
Life of Brian is such a masterpiece, every damn scene is hilarious. Much better than THG in my opinion
-You cant have babies.
-Dont you opress me!
-I am not opressing you Stan. You aint got a womb!😄😄😄
Oh my god, can‘t tell you how much I love this sketch. Ahead of its time for sure. Instant classic!
"But, you can't have babies!"
"Don't you oppress me!"
I love the delivery of that line.
WOKE just got disassembled...
Watching this in 2023 and still can't believe how accurate this scene is in describing today's reality. It's like traveling from the present to the past then straight back to the present.
I know. Who would have thought in 1979 that this would be reality now
1:11 The way he puts his head down and cries is hilarious 😆
According to an interview I saw, he hid his face because they had already done several takes, he couldn't stop laughing at John Cleese, and he didn't want to ruin the scene (again).
The truth never changes
Once again, timeless wisdom from this crew.
This was WAY ahead of it's time... haha.
Protect this humor at all costs
this scene aged fine like wine
