He Sing: Its so beautiful and amaizing to lay on the shore and to wach you (and beeing toogether with you) again my seagull(as knowen fellow) in here,. Near to the see and in soulitude. Upozna sam ga u desetom misecu u Vela Luci u Bate 1992 i postali prijatelji. Zivim u Genovi.vanka skoro 40 godina.svira i piva do oko 6 ujutru nezaboravna noc. Imam stan uVela Luci i cesto dolazim dolazim doli pozdravit starog maestra i velikog boema.
I consider myself so fortunate because a couple of years ago, I went to Oliver's last west coast concert, in Vegas, with my mom and brother. My mom knows the editor of the Croatian magazine Gloria, and she got us backstage passes so we got to hang with Oliver and Gibonni, such a thrill. I'd met Oliver years ago at the fortress in Hvar, but to see him again was wonderful. We even got our photo with him in Gloria!! Then I was so grateful that I happened to be in Hvar when we got the awful and shocking news that Oliver had died. I had perhaps a little bit more of a heads up than most, because my cousin Tea, who is a cardiologist in Rijeka, had told me that Oliver had recently been to her for an exam and she warned me that he had been in terrible shape and that any day she was expecting to hear that he had passed away. Still, I refused to fully believe her, one never knows in these cases, I told myself, anything can happen, he can still recover....I had already purchased tickets to his concert in San Francisco and have it marked on my calendar for October 14th, which I now have a hard time even looking at. The reason I was so grateful that I was in Hvar instead of home in California when this terrible loss occurred, is because like some other commenters on here, I would have had to be all alone in my grief, people would have looked at me blankly (except for my closest friends who knew all about the tremendous importance of Oliver's music throughout my life), and I would have felt such terrible frustration. In Hvar, I was surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of people who were feeling the same terrible shock and loss that I was; Oliver's music poured out of every shop and restaurant; there was incessant coverage on TV, the likes of which, everyone assured me, had never happened before even for presidents or major sports stars. Best of all, for me, I got the great privilege of going out on a friend's boat to pay my last respects to Oliver's catamaran as it came through Hvar en route to his final resting place in his home of Korčula. There were about 300 or more boats which went out to greet him, many of them lighting red flares which made the sea look aflame. We got so close to the catamaran on our boat that I almost could have reached out and touched it. I sobbed "Addio, Oliver," one last time as he passed me. It was just the most emotional and amazing experience, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude that fate had given me this gift, to be able to say goodbye and mourn properly this amazing man, this gigantic talent, who was such a hero to his country, but such a humble man of the people. They were saying that with how humble he had been, he never would have wanted a send-off such as he was given; but I replied that although he might not have asked for it, we as his people needed it; we needed this communal, cathartic experience of having the outlet for this great grief we feel for the loss of our hero. As fate would have it, when I left Hvar about a week later, the very same catamaran carried me away from my beloved island of my father's birth, as had carried my beloved Oliver to his final resting place. Zbogom, galebe, nećeš nikada biti zaboravljen....

I consider myself so fortunate because a couple of years ago, I went to Oliver's last west coast concert, in Vegas, with my mom and brother. My mom knows the editor of the Croatian magazine Gloria, and she got us backstage passes so we got to hang with Oliver and Gibonni, such a thrill. I'd met Oliver years ago at the fortress in Hvar, but to see him again was wonderful. We even got our photo with him in Gloria!! Then I was so grateful that I happened to be in Hvar when we got the awful and shocking news that Oliver had died. I had perhaps a little bit more of a heads up than most, because my cousin Tea, who is a cardiologist in Rijeka, had told me that Oliver had recently been to her for an exam and she warned me that he had been in terrible shape and that any day she was expecting to hear that he had passed away. Still, I refused to fully believe her, one never knows in these cases, I told myself, anything can happen, he can still recover....I had already purchased tickets to his concert in San Francisco and have it marked on my calendar for October 14th, which I now have a hard time even looking at. The reason I was so grateful that I was in Hvar instead of home in California when this terrible loss occurred, is because like some other commenters on here, I would have had to be all alone in my grief, people would have looked at me blankly (except for my closest friends who knew all about the tremendous importance of Oliver's music throughout my life), and I would have felt such terrible frustration. In Hvar, I was surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of people who were feeling the same terrible shock and loss that I was; Oliver's music poured out of every shop and restaurant; there was incessant coverage on TV, the likes of which, everyone assured me, had never happened before even for presidents or major sports stars. Best of all, for me, I got the great privilege of going out on a friend's boat to pay my last respects to Oliver's catamaran as it came through Hvar en route to his final resting place in his home of Korčula. There were about 300 or more boats which went out to greet him, many of them lighting red flares which made the sea look aflame. We got so close to the catamaran on our boat that I almost could have reached out and touched it. I sobbed "Addio, Oliver," one last time as he passed me. It was just the most emotional and amazing experience, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude that fate had given me this gift, to be able to say goodbye and mourn properly this amazing man, this gigantic talent, who was such a hero to his country, but such a humble man of the people. They were saying that with how humble he had been, he never would have wanted a send-off such as he was given; but I replied that although he might not have asked for it, we as his people needed it; we needed this communal, cathartic experience of having the outlet for this great grief we feel for the loss of our hero. As fate would have it, when I left Hvar about a week later, the very same catamaran carried me away from my beloved island of my father's birth, as had carried my beloved Oliver to his final resting place. Zbogom, galebe, nećeš nikada biti zaboravljen....
