This is the exact rig I run 2135, 32 gbs of ram, 2tb nvme. I put an RX6800 in there that’s definitely the limit. Had to turn down settings. It’s time for a better rig but you can’t go wrong with the P520
I really love the utilitarian look of these towers, but then again my two main systems are in fractal cases with solid side panels. I just like understated looking things.
I built one with a W-2140b (up from a W-2133), 64GB ram, 512GB nvme (it came installed from the seller), an RX 6600, and a pair of 10tb WD Red drives from my previous server. All less than $500. It does everything i need, from video editing, livestreaming, to 4K gaming (at lower settings but it's still 4K). I also installed a Wifi/BT 5.2 card.
🙂 thats fine broh, do u have an extra sata cable? pickup the cheapest smallest 2.5 SSD and install windows on it, u can run 10 or 11 on it. I'm refurbishing my 4790K Devil's Canyon and Windows 11 works just fine, its updating just fine too.
i have had the same system here only dif is i have 4 8 gig stix of ddr 4 2400 in it to get full use of the 4 slots using 4 channle helps about 15% on 1 % lows it has a 6700 xt in it mine came with the 900 watt ps , , bottom line ive not had any issues on any game at all at 1440 p and 1080 p it crushes everything , i think this is the ultimate budget pc you can build currently, im very happy with it
My Brickstation has the same CPU, it came with 32GB of Ram and the 900W PSU. I have a GTX 1070 display adapter, a WD Black SN850X for games, and I use my old Sata drives for Windows and storage. The PC was about $180 and the GPU I purchased used for $100, I ran out of space for games so I got that 2TB WD for about $120. It's simply a fabulous machine.
A lot of people are saying this is the Dell Optiplex of the modern day and I think they may be right. If these started popping up at affordable prices a couple years ago I might have used one of these to build my own PC. I'm perfectly happy with the one I ended up building but I can't help but wonder.
I started building one last month with a W-2135, 64GB ram, 500GB NVMe x2, 512GB NVMe using PCI card adapter, an RX 5700 GPU (will flash to 5700XT in the future) and a 4-drive cage (oimaster HE-2006) for four 2.5 SSD or laptop HDD that slides into the DVD bay. And a couple of TB HDD are installed. I also have a spare W-2135 CPU and PSU (now I have both 690W & 900W PSU). I have over $600 into the build now. It runs Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 for Workstations, Fedora 39, & MacOS Sonoma 14.3.1. I'll play with Proxmox later. I don't game, though, at least not yet!
I setup a P520 as a movie server and it gets really hot. Lenovo didn’t think hard enough about cooling with this model. I’m probably about to take everything out of the case and drill in some fan holes.
Really nice video. I've been searching for infos on this machine as I'm planning to build one. My question - I need to work with RTX 3060 TIs (SFF should be a go), as these GPUs are within my budget range - you recon I would be able to run 2 GPUS if I get the P520 with 900 Watt PSU, the GPUs are both 8 Pin... Thanks in advance
Well the point of optiplex builds is making something really good for less than $300. So I wouldn’t say those days are over unless somehow these drop to be $50-$100
ibought a 1000w version with the w2135 and a rx6600xt, got tired of the build eating dust on my floor so i sold it in my country and made a custom build
The only thing I don't like about these Lenovo workstations is their proprietary power supplies. The Dell Optiplex could accept standard ATX power supplies with no fuss.
@@JasonWitmerYTI subbed after seeing a couple of your budget videos but to see you comment this quick shows me that you’ll grow very soon, will be there when you hit each milestone
I have a p520 for about 4 months now it has the same processor it did come with the 900 watt ps, and 4 sticks of ecc ddr4 2400 ram, and I put in a inland pro m2 drive from microcenter 1 terabyte, and a 6700xt from microcenter all together I have close to 600 in it but it's a beast period I doubt it if there is any other combo you could Do that would out preform it in price per performance new or old that anyone could do out of the box, 1400p, 1080p it will please you very much I'm so happy I have it, also the motherboard has a windows 10 pro version linked to it when you download and install It you can activate it for free and even upgrade to windows 11 for free , if you are on a budget, this machine is the way to go.
Sucks that these go for between 580 and 900 or so dollars in South Africa, I have no idea why besides them maybe being less popular, would be cool if they become cheaper

I dont get it, wouldnt that CPU bottleneck the 3060 TI or 6700 xt? Coz I bought ryzen 5 5600 and people recommend the highest GPUs that can match it are both of those, but isnt the 5600 much more powerful than 8700k?
It depends. He really hit the mark with the gpu combination in the video for 1440p gaming. If you were to use the build in this video for 1080p gaming, while it would be a very solid performer the gpu would likely be waiting around for the cpu more, due to the older and slower process node of the xeon. For 1440p, the lighter cpu load and heavier gpu load make for a better balance between the two, tending to lean slightly in favor of the cpu in most circumstances. The 6700 XT would probably pushing the cpu pretty close to its limit at 1440p, shifting the bottleneck from the gpu to the cpu in a lot more circumstances. You might be able to even squeeze one more step up in gpu (6800/3070 Ti) for games that are less cpu reliant, though whether or not it would be worth it would rely pretty heavily on your personal use case as you would probably hit a fairly noticeable cpu bottleneck in many games.
🙂 this is basically a coffeelake motherboard, so just imagine and ask yourself, what would pair nicely with an i7 8700 or Ryzen 3600? They are all the samething. Go on youtube and look at all the benchmarks for the 8700 and 3600, what are other gamers running with those cpus?

Unless it's overheating, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just being hot is normal for a workstation
