I'm a fan of many global wine producing regions, but Portuguese wines are my favorite. The country has so many fantastic domestic grape varieties that aren't understood internationally, and they use them to make exceptional wines at every price level. I almost hope that they stay under the radar so I can continue to enjoy their amazing wines at such low price points. Obrigado!
I'm loving seeing these videos. But I must say, the Vinho Verde region is mostly if not all granitic soil, very mineral, very acidic but balanced fresh wines. The Douro region is mostly xist stone, which definetely (with the climate) helps to get this deepness associated with DOC Douro wines. Vinho Verde has much more versatility than is usually known. I challenge you to take a look at them. Anselmo Mendes, one great agent in the revival of Vinho Verde. Check is wines out.
You talked about Touriga Nacional from Douro when you were explaining Alentejo region but the best Touriga Nacional is from Dão! Touriga nacional is the Queen of red wine grapes! There are some fantastic Touriga Nacional Wines from Dão ;)
Hi Michael, yes, it's a whole series, starting here: ua-cam.com/video/g_FCveLvWOA/v-deo.html Hope this works for you :) Cheers!

That was very good... ;-) «the elephant in the room» , and absolutely true. It's like saying that the Pastel de Nata it's the only Sweet Pastry in Portugal...well, we have such an Enormous Variety of Pastries and Delicious Food and Wines that is almost impossible to name everything. I can understand that for foreigners is very difficult to imagine that such a physically small Country is so Vast in Almost Everything... Portugal is an Ancestral Nation(in fact The Oldest Nation in Europe) so injustly underrated and with a lot of preconceived Ignorance ...but, oh well, thanks God there are people like you that Wish To Know More and Taste The Good Things in Life Like Portugal is!
As a WSET student it's sad why portugal is not so included...portugal is neck to neck to France or any part of the world wines...so rich, so intense,so elegant..im not talking about fortified wines.the portuguese don't drink fortified wines.portuguese drink vinho verde, white, rose wine and red. Portuguese don't care about port. Go to Alentejo or bairrada or beira alta wines and you will be surprised.
