Quinta da Touriga Chã, Quinta do Valbom, Abandonado, Passadouro, Quinta do Vesuvio, Quinta do Monte Xisto... these would all be great aditions to list. Congratulations for the selection.
Great video Matt! Visited the Quinta do Vale Meao yesterday and bought a few bottles of the good stuff. Also picked up a case of the Meandro, which is an excellent cost/value wine. Book in advance for a proper tasting & tour.
Hello and greetings from Munich-Germany! I love portuguese wine from Alentejo area. Herdade do Rocim Reserve is a cuvée of Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz and have a really good price quality performance!
Great video. I´ve been to Portugal last year and stayed a weekend in the Douro, that is one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the world. And the wines are that fabulous indeed. I tasted many of the recomended wines in the video. Post Scriptum is a wonderful wine, at a nice price range if you don´t happen to live in Brazil. The Niepoort´s wines are also great quality.
Love your content ! Greetings from Brazil ! Next time don’t miss the Quinta da Touriga Franca! Its one of the best of the Douro superior and it is produced by the same guy that makes the Duas Quintas Reserva ! You have to try also Adelaide, of Vallado. And the list bellow are very classic style Douro red wines : Passadouro reserva , Abandonado, and quinta do portal Auru. Trying to offer you a Douro that is more red fruit driven , I also recommend Pinteivera, that is made by Chapoutier ! And a suggestion: do a content about Dão wines ! They are the fresh medium body with length that you like , but with guard potential ! Cheers !
My favorite Douro wine is Vale de Meão but on the budget you have from the same vineyard Meandro is fabulous for the price in Portugal costs 14 eur , great reviews
I was introduced to Douro wines with a Duas Quintas, what a great discovery absolutely an amazing price performance. Can find it here in France around 15€. What a steal
Hi, this was a great video. Very helpful. We are going to Portugal and Douro valley in mid september. We love our wine, and really want to taste and experience as much of the amazing wines and wineries as we can while we are there. There are so many "touristy" tours for port wine out there. But we really want to experience the wines and grape varietals like the ones you have shown here. Do you have any reccomendations on how we can do this or who we can get into contact with?
Those are some heavy hitters there, i love quinta do Noval and their Syrah bottling having a vertical of 15,16 and 17 cellaring... Also Quinta de la Rosa Reserva and Quinta da Romaneira Reserva, a wine with a very mineral carácter (being from Madeira island im a sucker for mineraly Wines) and Pata d' Urso Old Vines are some that come to my head...
It was a nice vídeo but I just think Pintas from Wine & Soul should be between the best Douro wines. Maybe U already tasted it and if it is the case I'm sure U liked it very much
Matthew- Big fan of the channel! I am going to be traveling in Portugal in a few weeks and am very interested in making some winery visits. Would love some recommendations about places to go and best way to get there (car, tour, cruiser etc.). I'm know you're busy with lots of comments to respond to, but if you have the time to provide some recs please message me. Great channel and keep up the good work!!
Yes! You have missed "Quinta do Vale Travesso" under 20 bucks and amazing! Next time stop by at Restaurante Fonte Nova in Baiao and talk with the locals there. Sure you will not spend more than 20 euros for your meal and will try the best wines with Nilo.
I am really curious, the prices that you mentioned, is that what those wines cost in the states? Cuz if you pay 60 bucks for Portuguese wines in Portugal, there's no way that those wines are 4 to 5 times better than the wines from other producers from the same grapes.
I love Portuguese wines though the Douro isn´t my favourite region. From there though I love both Quinta do Estanho, Quinta Dona Leonor and Quinta de la Rosa. In the latter case I find the white even better than the red with serious elegance. I´ve drank Chryseia a number of times and love the wine but the prices are a bit rich these days so I´ll try the Post Scriptum for far less money.
@@drmatthewhorkey I love it for white and red. Indio Rei from there is brilliant. Though my favourite Portuguese wines come from the Alentejo with Zambujeiro my favourite of what I´ve tasted.
This was actually the best video about portuguese wines from a non portuguese that I have ever seen
Woaaaahhh that’s quite the compliment!! I love Portugal. Obrigado
Nice selection :) always been a big fan of Douro !
We missed you at the event
Quinta da Touriga Chã, Quinta do Valbom, Abandonado, Passadouro, Quinta do Vesuvio, Quinta do Monte Xisto... these would all be great aditions to list. Congratulations for the selection.
Those are all GREAT wines!!
Having spent some time in Portugal so many good wines under that $20 mark. Alentejo reserve wines really blew me away QPR wise. Great video
Yes there are some value wines at the end of the video. I’m also working on a video about the value you can get in Portugal
Great recap of your visit to the Douro.
I've always loved the Meandro from Quinta do Vale Meao as a great value option.
thanks and yes the latest vintage of Meandro is VERY good.
@@drmatthewhorkey Meandro 2011 is really good
wow love you dr horkey ive just found this channel ,so much knowledge portuguese wine labels to die for
Obrigado! I love Portugal

Ahhh nice you are right on how beautiful the region is! Glad you enjoyed everything.
Virtually unobtainable here in Australia.
Great video Matt
Ahhh that’s tough!
@@drmatthewhorkey
As we say a real bugger lol 😂
Guru is great, but I also like Niepoort's Redoma Branco Reserva.
I like it too!
Amazing video!
🙏🙏🙏
liked your accent when pronouncing casa ferreirinha... keep up the great work!
Hahaha it’s a hard pronunciation that I never get right. Obrigado

Meandro offers terrific value, good call!

That is a steal! That regular Duas Quintas can be delicious

Yes I have someone who does GREAT work email me at exoticwinetravel@gmail.com
Funny, because I'm here right now. Last night we slept at Quinta de Ventozelo. Amazing place. Douro is the most beautiful wine region in the world
Nicceee I bet you enjoyed
I just got a Quinta da Leda 2014 at Garrafeira Nacional in Lisbon just because of your video
🙃
My favorite so far is Quinta do Paral’s Vinhas Velhas tinto from Alentejo. Aragonez (Tempranillo) as main grape.
I do like that wine!
In Porto I have found numerous vinho verde made with Alvarinho truly extraordinary at a decent price
You are right!
Those are some heavy hitters there, i love quinta do Noval and their Syrah bottling having a vertical of 15,16 and 17 cellaring... nicccce, I like the Romaneira Reserva too and the Syrah. Tooooo many good wines in Portugal
@@drmatthewhorkey you should try Ramilo Colares Malvasia White..its a thing of beauty.
Great video, but try World Wild Wines, Quinta da Devesa, Pacheca, Quinta das Tecedeiras, Boa Vista, Foz Torto and Ontem!
Obrigado, I know them except World Wide Wines. I love Portugal sooooo much.
I also followed your adventures in Catalunya with our mutual friend Sinisa. PS - I live in Portugal so am spoiled for choice.
You are! I love Portuguese wine
Siniša is a great guy and there’s another video coming with him. Thanks for watching
It was a nice vídeo but I just think Pintas from Wine & Soul should be between the best Douro wines. Maybe U already tasted it and if it is the case I'm sure U liked it very much
Yes I’ve had a lot of vintages of it, I just wanted to stick to one wine per producer in this video

Have you ever tried Muxagat Vinhos?
Very good!

😮😮😮😮
Need to talk about the Dao and Bairrada.
I have in previous videos!
I am really curious, the prices that you mentioned, is that what those wines cost in the states? Cuz if you pay 60 bucks for Portuguese wines in Portugal, there's no way that those wines are 4 to 5 times better than the wines from other producers from the same grapes.
Yes these are what the wines cost in the USA and yes many of these are more expensive wines
Post-scriptum is a lovely wine. Excellent value for money.
Sim!!
I´ve been drinking Quinta do Noval white wines since, at least, 2009. Previous name was "Cedro do Noval".
I think they still make that wine too
you should try Beira, wines from altitude, wines that it seems that you like
I know the region! I do like the wines

excellent video! unfortunately only Portugal wines you can buy here (Georgia, Tbilisi) is Cartuxa
Thank you. Yes it's not the easiest to get a lot of foreign wines even in Tbilisi...
Quinto do fojo Duoro
Amazing
Foz?
Where can we buy these wines?
I linked ones that I could find on wine.com in the description box. Besides that, wine-searcher will be your best friend
A região do Douro é a mais antiga região demarcada de vinho do Mundo, e é linda!!!
It’s a spectacular region indeed!
Great video! Wines a bit on the pricey side. Is that why you've been putting off that haircut?
Hahahag just got one 🤣😂
Portugal is not DOURO…try the wines from Alentejo like the Piteira wines and you will love them
I have tried them (there is a video on the channel w them) and have been to Alentejo multiple tines
It is not "Baixa Corgo", it is Baixo Corgo".
Obrigado
