Danny DeVito landing that part went on to write both comedy and dramatic scripts, produce some insane shows like Reno 911 and save Sunny in Philly from the chopping block. That show launched many careers but none as impactful to the art than Danny. War of the Rose's is still a favorite of mine.
I really wish they still made shows like this! The whole cast was amazing!

Clean? You must have watched only the syndicated reruns! They chopped out the more risque bits and drug references to make room for more commercials. Same thing with every other edgy show.

I loved this show. It was hilarious and the cast was so talented!! It really warms my heart to know that they've all remained friends for more than 4 decades.

I'm 59 yrs old now😢 but when I hear the opening music my mind goes back to a young me staying up to watch "TAXI" after a long day at work! Taxi was my way of ending my day on a high note! 😆
I’m 55 and was just a kid, had strict bedtime rules so I could never watch it when it came on, but I’d get close to my bedroom door just to hear that opening theme. Was melodic, as was M.A.S.H. and Hill Street Blues.

One of my all time favorites! The Jim's drivers test scene is right up there with the WKRP turkey episode!
In the same episode I like when Jim doctors up Louie's coffee and they end up singing a wonderful rendition of moonlight bay together.
Add in SOAP, Chuck and Bob's mind reading for the trifecta.
Loved it as a kid. Still do now. Played an episode for my family recently. My wife is not easily impressed, and she liked it a lot! The most talented cast that I can ever think of put together on a television show. Not just comedy. ANY.

The episode when Jim came to work for the cab company was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. From when he drugged Louie’s coffee to the scene at the DMV. Hilarious 😂😊

This reunion was wonderful! Thanks so much! And I never knew Tony Danza was behind the wheel of the taxi in the opening credits! That's so cool!
Being able to enjoy new episodes of Taxi and WKRP during the same weeks in the late 70s and early 80s was a special time.
What I loved also was that this group, formed in a rough place, each struggling to survive and then each coming together to help each other succeed, each helping the other for whatever they needed and having a good time doing it. I loved it when Ignitowski was found to be from a rich family and nobody knew it.
That's what they call "Hollywood magic" because situations like that only happens in the movies😢
45 years later that DMV scene still makes me howl 😂😂😂 Hall Of Fame television.

I've become friends with a guy who was in a movie that Tony Danza appeared in. He tells me Tony is a genuinely nice guy.

That's is one of the best things about great TV shows, even after some of the actors pass away they still can remain with us forever. Andy Kaufman as Latka was one us the most beloved TV characters of all time!!!

There were some real icons on that show. So many great films and TV shows between them.

It's one show that doesn't feel like it's stuck in time. I can't watch may of the shows I grew up with, but any time I've caught Taxi rerun on I stay and watch.
Jim takes his written driver's test, Jim the Psychic, Alex at the gay bar,; Three episodes that I have to watch a few times to laugh. Probably three of the funniest moments on television.
Louie gets a job as a stockbroker (super hilarious), Louie at his sleazy best in a flashback to his carrier days, ripping off a 12 year old kid in his cab going to prep school (brilliant).

Having worked my way through college driving a cab, I can tell you that there's a lot more than a grain of truth in Taxi.
THIS! Little did we know how good we had it back in the day, when we were watching this show as it aired for the first time... far from perfect, but happier days indeed!

We watched it in post-communist Romania in the 1990's and absolutely loved it!! Marilu looks incredible at 71!❤
Still watch this awesome show. Right out of the gate, episode 1 is funny and even heartwarming (Alex reuniting with his daughter). It was an amazing series.

Taxi is my favorite show of all time. I've seen every episode dozens of times by now. My favorite Taxi moment is probably when Jim was a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman. (SPOILER). After dumping grease and most of this poor lady's breakfast on her carpet to demonstrate how good the Magic Carpet Wizard is at cleaning up messes, he reaches into his case and pulls out a book and asks, "Where do I plug this in?" Then he remembers that he didn't get the job selling vacuums, but was actually selling encyclopedias.
It's so great to see them all back. It's so annoying when celebs are too big to attend events like this. Man Tony has great hair.

Loved everything about this reunion except how they left out Randall Carver. That's unfortunate. Still not to know the cast enjoys each other after all these years.
I can't express how much my Dad loved this show. He raved about it all the time. I think it brought him back to his days growing up in Brooklyn. Actually, he was a little bit like Louie-he had a short fuse & yelled a lot. It is one of the greatest sitcoms ever. I think my fave episodes were the cocaine cookies & the time Elaine & Alex went to Europe

I was 12 when this came out. I always loved it and I had a crush on Tony Danza. Lol.
Me too! I am surprised to learn that he had never acted before Taxi, he's such a natural! Tony seems like a person who is easy to get along with and fun to work with. I can tell his co stars have always liked him and I've never heard anything negative about him.
Alyssa Milano has talked about how Tony was very protective of her on the set of "Who's The Boss", like a 2nd dad to her. Tony has talked about how proud he is of her professionalism, talent, and that she stayed away from drugs and "trouble" unlike many other child stars. There was talk of a "Who's The Boss" reboot but I don't know if it ever happened. Tony and Alyssa were the only original actors that signed on for the project and it sounds like they were both looking forward to working together again.
Do you remember when he had his own talk show, briefly? I don't know why it was cancelled. I thought he was an excellent host because his guests always seemed to be having a good time and he was skilled at keeping conversations going in the right direction.
He's still handsome! Now he's a silver fox.

I was going to say that exact thing. The woman doesn’t age. She’s one of the few people in the world that can remember exact details on any date. You give her a date and she can tell you what she was wearing, what she was doing etc. There is only a small amount of people in the world who can do that. She says it drives her family crazy. I believe her when she says the filmed 112 episodes and not 114 like Wikipedia says 😂

Some of the best characters in tv history. Still holds up today. Just watched the episode the other day where the immigration come looking for Latka. And the Christmas episode when Louie’s brother visits. So good

Broadway and theatre, singer song writers from New York, like Billy Joel,
and just great comedy writing. My favorite character was Alex, the level headed, wise, and
vulnerable character of them all. They all had such great chemistry, now I know why. So many

I was 5 when this aired, & I didn’t understand it. My parents loved the show, so it was on. Chris Lloyd & Andy Kaufman’s characters cracked me up, & I’ve enjoyed the show as an adult. I grew into a fan, not just of the show, but of the cast.

Paramount+ has the series right now. I was just about to cancel my subscription to Paramount before I found they have "Taxi" along with all the Star Trek series and movies.

I remember being in 7th grade and I would place an audio tape recorder in front of the TV speaker and record Taxi every week. I vividly remember playing the driver's test bit over and over the next day in school after it's original airing.

As they said it was an ensemble cast, ir wasnt a star driven show and relied on interactions between the cast members. I think it worked bc they seemed to have that chemistry in real life.
My favorite scene was where jim confronts Alex for calling him a nut,etc to a shared love interest. Alex gives him a recitation if the weird things he has done,and at the end Jim says 'wow, i dont even remember some of those things...Alex, that means you care!'
Tied with the episode where Latka thinks he is Alex, Alex takes him to see his shrink, and latka as alex starts talking about his feelings, snd Alex is nodding saying 'wow, i never thought about that!'
I Loved this segment and how they chose Whoopi, Sara, and Sunny for this segment.
One of the greatest sitcoms of the 70s there is no question about it. Still watch the reruns as much as I can.

This is the first thumbs-up I've ever given The View on UA-cam. Taxi was SPECTACULAR- and look at the superstars who were in that show. Christopher Lloyd- one of my all time favorites- also from my favorite movie of all time. Danny Devito went on to a great movie career and another all time sitcom. Danza too. Andy Kaufman - nobody ever like him. Carol Kane- hilarious. Marilu Henner- gorgeous. And Judd Hirsch- spectacular.

I watched this show in high school back in the late seventies. Jump ahead to 2016 and, I was nervous about applying for a job but, when I played the Taxi theme song, it brought me back to high school when anything seemed possible. I then played the theme song right before going to apply for the job. I got the job! Thank you Ms. Banes for making us watch Taxi and do reports on it. If not for that, I don't know what would have become of me.
Carol sure looked sad when Tony mentioned Conaway and, of course, Andy Kaufman.

I still watch this show sometimes 😊 The theme music stuck with me alot from when my parents and grandma watched it when I was a little girl, and is especially nostalgic. It's good to see them all still ❤🙏

I really think I could start watching this show all over again from the beginning.
You definitely should watch it again. I just finished a rewatch of the show on Paramount Plus. I was a teenager when it first aired and I had forgotten much of it. The comedy is wonderful, but the dramatic moments are really touching and well done,too.
