Maybe my favorite Woody moment is when Frasier introduces Lilith to the bar.. "everybody id like you to meet my date, dr lilith sternin, md phd edd apa" and Woody goes "boy it sure isnt spelled like it sounds" A great episode as well.
That joke to introduce the character of Woody to the show (and the audience) should be studied by tv writers everywhere. It’s perfect. It’s not only very funny, but it lets the audience relax and know that everything’s going to be ok. Because Coach didn’t leave the show because of contract negotiations or to go onto a different project. He was *beloved* by the audience and, when he passed away, there was a real sense of loss. To give the audience comfort while also making them laugh the way that pen pal joke did is a real skill.

I always enjoyed how "Woody" referred to Dianne as "Ms. Chambers" even though they were not very far apart in age. It was part of the running joke that he was a simple country boy in the big city.
One thing special about Cheers is that they filmed on actual film instead of videotape like all the other shows at the time. That's why it looks so good even today.
They did do a videotape test because the studio wanted to cut costs so they shot a scene but it looked drab, dull, and lifeless... so they stuck with film.
@@staxmantim I didn't know that either but it does explain a lot about why it always felt so much more like being in a real place than the other shows, like a real bar not just a soundstage. That bar felt real to so many people and maybe that's because it wasn't over-lit.
I studied film in the the early 2000s and back then, we were all "film-purists" because video just couldn't compare and we couldn't imagine it ever replacing film. They say that film has deeper dimension because the emulsion has layers while video is flat. Film was way higher resolution than video back then. Each frame of film ends up in a slightly different position in the gate of the camera and projector so that we subconsciously perceive it as moving in an almost shaky dancing motion while the video frame is perfectly still. And video was 30 frames per second interlaced which made it sharp and hyper-realistic while film has a slower frame rate of 24 and is full frame rather than interlaced which gives it an other-worldly magical feel. It was one of the biggest revolutions in 150 years of motion pictures when video cameras became high-enough resolution to shoot movies on. Now, they're two and three times the resolution of 35mm film.

My favorite episode is definitely the one where Diane wins it for the bowling team. ❤

This is so funny when they start talking about leg wrestling or Indian wrestling several different cultures did it but I forgotten that my brother and my father and I all loved to do this when I was a kid.
When I started watching Cheers (one of their re-runs) it was one of the later seasons where Coach and Diane had already been replaced by Woody and Rebecca, so watching the first seasons was a little strange.
Woody Harrelson lived in Lebanon Ohio at the same time I did. I was in the 4th grade, so I never saw anyone that looked like him. I think he was in high school at the time. I'm pretty sure if I'd seen someone that looked like that, I would have remembered it.
I have been watching bits and pieces of this interview..and it is great..I wish I could hang out with people like this. So many people that don't laugh anymore. BUT..I am really wanting some of that watermelon drink they have. Anyone know what watermelon drink that is? Or can recommend? (and don't tease either-this I am being serious about.) back when comedy was authentic and real as the audience
The two of them hosting a podcast is the throwback podcast I actually care about. I grew up on Cheers and Conan, perfect combination.
I’m British so naturally I feel that British comedy is the best, but for me Cheers is the greatest sitcom ever.
Me at first: Woody sounds like he just finished filming The people vs. Larry Flynt.
2:55: Oh okay.
I'm not a huge fan of swearing on TV, but hearing Ted say the occasional F word brings an element of satisfaction.
My FAV sitcom of all time.
I have been watching bits and pieces of this interview..and it is great..I wish I could hang out with people like this. So many people that don't laugh anymore. BUT..I am really wanting some of that watermelon drink they have. Anyone know what watermelon drink that is? Or can recommend? (and don't tease either-this I am being serious about.) Team Coco-Get in touch.
How did you manage to get such clear audio in this video?
Woody is just a natural born American icon. This guy oozes humble awesomeness. If he started a religion, I'd follow it because I'm sure it'd be based on common sense and positivity.
"Pens" lmfao!
Still one of the finest and funniest shows ever to be presented.
Sona is right there with these guys!
I think Conan (since that Hot Ones episode) has come unhinged! Just kidding, of course! Great podcast.
Wow, Conan is rocking some wicked hair. 🤩
Cheers should be required viewing for anyone under the age of 30.
There were great sitcoms. Quite simply, Cheers is the greatest of the great.
these are great hangouts with Ted and Woody!
