    That place needs a huge renovation. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned, painted, and properly sealed. Water is leaking in all over the place. There's mold, dead rats, and tons of rust... It's looks terrible.. Its a awesome concept, but it definitely needs a renovation soon, before a war breaks out. He should do a restoration fund raiser with the local preppers.

    • @joshman501
      @joshman501 6 років тому +8

      Fully renovate it, add some proper lighting, clean everything, then sell tickets to the local towns people. Advertise in the newspaper ads maybe. Then they can buy tickets to the shelter for like $100 or so. A ticket will guarantee them entry to the shelter in the event of an emergency. Then you can use that money to renovate it further. Try to get it up to code so the city doesn't tear it down.. It would be a shame to let this place go to waste.

      @Nancy Hollo no just neglect. I've seen shelters actually used from nuclear fallout left in way better conditions. Also alot further underground than 5 feet on its shallow end which doesn't really protect from anything leeching in through the ground.

    You Guys' who criticize this man would be the first lined up at his door if something really happens(Right after you pooped your pants). It's just old but still protection from radiation. I would certainly trust him more than the government for protection (remember Katrina) My hat's off to him for the fact he wants to help his fellow man. Yes, he is older but so will you be someday.

    I was in this shelter years ago and it looked much better then . Still at that time vandals had caused a good bit of damage.

  • @wealthelife
    @wealthelife 3 роки тому +5

    @1:28 show a dosimeter charger and they call it a geiger counter lol. The film crew were obviously more interested in showing how dilapidated the place was than accurate reporting.
    But overall, Ark 2 shows the folly of an individual trying to build and maintain a large capacity shelter - although the construction cost per person space are lower for a single large shelter/complex than for a large number of small individual shelters, the ongoing maintenance cost and manpower required make large shelters very costly to maintain - even large government-built shelters have fallen into disrepair and been pillaged and vandalised. It's quite sad to see the amount of time and money that went into something like this but can't be maintained.

      You wouldn't say that in the aftermath of a nuclear war with every major city destroyed, thousands of desperate, injured people trying to take whatever you have and with imminent fall out about to end your life. You'd be begging to get in. And that's *the problem - so would thousands of others. Place would be overrun and wiped out within a week.

    Are you serious? Most of you are hating on his shelter. So what, this man is brilliant, not crazy, not sadistic. Yes are life time will never see any sort of issue that needs something like this. But he is very smart, he budgeted his project and is doing it with the money he can, do you think any sort of government is doing this yet.. no not at all. There to busy causing issues that will expand into something bigger that would cause a issue to retreat to a facility like this. When the world crumbles this man's family will be safe and not you. The people that are hating this man, calling this man what they want will be on there knees trying to have some help or safety for there family and all you did was judge. You don't deserve any sort of safty. This man is smart he is looking after future generations just hope his kids don't sell the property because they are greedy. . Will our society last forever? Is the huge question. What do you think? I don't think so... sooner or later it will come crumbling down on us and we will have knowhere to run. Shelters like this are a brilliant idea. We need more. We need more people like this man. He made a smart idea by doing it in a remote area of the world. He is doing his best of the money he had. Canada most likely will never be bombed. Or come apart of a apocalypse of any sort. It's Canada ah.

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 6 років тому +4

      The guy who made it was a nuclear safety officer. Consider that it's you who doesn't have a clue what you're talking about.
      And aside from the food issue, it's fine. It has plenty of (redundant) ventilation, an internal well for fresh water with multiple large storage vessels, as well as a lot of other stuff. It's intended to be the primary shelter for only 3 weeks to six months.
      I mean, I'd rather live in there than die.

    • @gailhart7239
      @gailhart7239 2 роки тому +1

      2 ft of domed concrete and Earth on top is an extremely strong structure that would probably hold up to big blast but it definitely will stop all radiation from entering. If the air filtration system is large enough, there is clean water, it would be safe space for weeks or a few months. People could make it more comfortable. Im emergencies you do what you have to. Would you rather go down manholes of your cities to shelter in the sewers for a couple weeks?
      What are your options?
